Spartan Hoplites Are Broken Beyond Repair — The Real Spam Nightmare After Fanatics

Besides the Fanatics, Spartiates are by far the most broken units in the game. Seriously, these units are insanely overpowered and hard to counter. Can anyone name a unit that can reliably stop Spartiates? I bet you can’t.

They hit hard, have massive armor, can promote to Olympic status and even have technologies that make them stronger and faster. The only thing the developers could have done to stop the spamming of this unit was to add a population cost of 2. Unfortunately, they didn’t do that.

There are players abusing this by spamming Spartiates in P1, and it’s ruining the game for everyone. I wouldn’t be surprised if some ecobot or clever Sparta player designed this unit to exploit the game by spamming them relentlessly for an unfair advantage.

What do you guys think? Any ideas on how to properly nerf or counter these broken units? I believe adding a population cost of 2 to build them would be an effective way to balance this unit. Moreover all Athenian Marines should be nerfed for sure.
We’ve already banned Fanatics from our games, and Spartiates definitely need to be banned as well. If the developers don’t nerf these units in the next alpha update and keep introducing unfair, broken units, we’ll have no choice but to keep banning them from our matches to maintain fair gameplay.

The P1 Spartiates will take a heavy toll on the player's eco and cannot be spammed in large quantities due to the special building which is an extra cost. Even in P3, their cost and slow movement still deters players from overusing them. Finally, the Spartan civ is a weak one in A27 due to its other flaws, so having one above average unit doesn't cause a huge issue

Doesn't matter, they are too strong. Please nerf. I win too many games with them against the AI, so they must be broken.

The AI doesn't know how to use champions so of course you would win. You would be able to beat the AI using any unit or strategy, not just Spartiates. You can only convince me that they are op by beating me in a 1v1.

Honestly. This has to be a troll post. Why is it becoming a trend to just pick any champion and say its "OP"?

Winning against AI can be done without Spartiate with ease. And a P1 rush can be largely delayed with a cavalry rush. Subsequent attack from Spartan player can be held off with towers restricted with houses and ranged units, slingers being sweet spot. And forgot about the economy, if the Spartiate rush doesn't entirely kill the player in the initial rush itself it is a big slowdown for the Spartan player. (lack of P2 metal tech). Frankly. it seems people are just intent on banning everything.

Actually it’s not broken but it’s OP. The poster is just trolling that he is only playing SP. He knows situation in the lobby.

I watch your game with IRush and you almost got beaten and in fact he just resigned in frustration but was leading you in the end. You were just lucky to be Iberian and he never anticipated that his spartiates can get trapped.
He did the same strategy on OP team game and positioned on the border and beat his opposing side. He repeated it and was doubled without help so he/they lost. If there was no help from opposing teammates that opponent becomes cosmic.

Now like Reza he is challenging good/decent players and no one accepts. With small map on 1v1 mainland it’s harder to counter the rush if you’re just a decent player.

Separates (is a champion) are strong units that really doesn’t belong in P1. Fanatics being OP is not in doubt but at least they are in P2.

If you think about it, it's a good thing because it will generate another post later. In the end, the circle will be complete.

Of course, and most likely it will be on how female citizens are so op and need to be nerfed

Sheeps are OP

They are op, but few can exploit their opness as a food source because of the activation cost. In late game, switching to sheep farming is a recipe for victory. Patches of sheep near your territory also gives you the opportunity to boom with Cav.

Trolling aside, I think Spartiates is not yet enough to be op because any unit can outrun them

But Sparta is boring.I

They have two of the coolest-looking units in the game, along with one of the coolest Heroes. Literally Teutonic Knights with a spear.

But seriously, they had Royal Stoa where they trained Mercenary champions. That was considered non-historical, so their unit roster was reduced.

But these are only appearances. They are not fun.

In alpha 23 they had slingers and all the slinger civs were fun.

Rome was very fun in A23 because we had strong catapults and bolters to reduce those annoying slinger blocks to smoking craters :)

Catapults are boring and slow.

Slingers are fun.Or they felt like they were. They were literally mini catapults.

Sparta is just a re-skin of Athens but not fun I mean 0 fun.

Champion hoplites and that's it.
