May I join the project?

Hi everyone!
May name is Elena, I'm from Kazakhstan.
I've got through the participation guide on the official website, and I still have some concerns about how to join the project...
I am excited about 0 A.D. setting and I want to try myself in game artwork development. I have experience with blender and Maya and I have someone to explain me about git if needed.
What are my next steps? Should I just go through the manuals here: https://trac.wildfiregames.com/#Forartists and grab some task myself? Or should I contact someone and have some task assigned?

Looking forward for some guidance,
Best regards,
Elena

Anyone can enter, you just need patience.

Plus we are all beta testers.

What do you want to do?

I'm not ready to develop characters, since I have no experience in this field at all. Building development is a priority, but I also don't mind working on weapons or ships.

What about helmets?

Weapons is a nice option.Maybe it's easy for you. We need props and buildings, I don't know how we're doing with the ships.

We are creating a new faction and we are missing props and some weapons and shields.

I don't know if you noticed that everything is low poly.

Yes, I noticed. And I just need experience in low poly. And I'm interested in working on helmets, shields and props.
I don’t have much experience working on projects, but I really want to learn. That's why I'm ready to take on even small tasks.

Do you have a portfolio somewhere? :)

But yeah basically you could try making lods for props or improving existing ones

You should clone the nightly build (this way you don't have to worry about building the game or lfs etc)

If you do want to learn git to make your own patch, that's fine as well, else if you make something good I or @wowgetoffyourcellphone will commit it for you.

@nifa might have some tips for you on how to get started.

It's simple, you just do what you know, we will guide you. Do what your mind and knowledge know how to do.

If you want, let's start with a Germanic sword.

I don't think we have anything like that.

It is very similar to the Celtic Spatha.

Hi @Kiselena, welcome to the forums! Sure it might need some patience but it's definately possible to contribute, especially since you already have some knowledge.

You're free to take on any task you like. Just need to know what your interest are in terms of history, like what civilizations you like and what field of 3D modelling you are familiar with. Since you're from Kazakhstan, if you're interested in central asian civs, maybe these are for you:

I've only worked with blender, don't know about maya. Most of the time the process is building a basic mesh, UV unwrapping, texturing, maybe with gimp e.g. I don't have that much experience with the last especially. In case of organic assets (statues, sculptures, animals etc) I had to do some highpoly building, sculpting, LP Retopology, Normal Map Baking, Procedural Materials and Diffuse Baking. How familiar are you with these? I could try to find a task that fits you then. No worries, I had zero experience when I started not that long time ago

Actually for the Germans, the biggest issue is the market. We have suffficient props to make the units look different and even unique.

It’s by no means game breaking, but the current market is really too large and visually similar to the arsenal building.

If you would like to work on buildings,  @wowgetoffyourcellphone could point you in the right direction, although I think some difficulties arose last time it was worked on.

Hello again
Sorry, I didn't think there was a message limit on this forum.
Can I show you an example of sword you nedeed? I can do more
complicated things, but it's still difficult for me to understand what exactly is nedeed. Point out errors to me and i will try to correct it.

And no, I haven't crated a portfolio anywhere yet, I can only attach examples of what I've been working on last time :(

The style of these projects is different from yours, but I would like to work on something more realistic.

It's okay. It's usually useful to know what your level might be :). Thanks for sharing it.

You need to sign this

Else we cannot use whatever assets you make.

@wowgetoffyourcellphone might have buildings that need to be done, this might be more interesting than making a sword.

@Lion.Kanzen I have attached a blender file to this message. This is an example of a sword. It is quite simple and if there are any comments, then I will correct it.

Stan and Wow are the ones who will review the technical part of your work, I will give my visual opinion.

I hadn't noticed that you were talking to me.sorry.

3D is not my specialty.

It's all right :) I just don't know yet who I should write to and show it to, so I'm writing to you.

Thanks for topics, I'll take a look and think about what I can do.

I will give you the links.

You can open a new topic for each different work unless it is a set or group.

Most of these are minor things someone will use them and they will end up in the game.

These have low priority. That's why it might be easy for you.

You should check out the latest stuff here, there are some very old things there.

This one is easy to model but difficult to give it a good texture.

It would be good to open a new topic for the market and I should look for the link so you can see the concepts and what has already been done.
