Might be something some people find useful?

Here is some interesting excerpts from Ceasars Gallic wars: The number of the people is countless, and their buildings exceedingly numerous, for the most part very like those of the Gauls: the number of cattle is great. They use either brass or iron rings, determined at a certain weight, as their money. Tin is produced in the midland regions; in the maritime, iron; but the quantity of it is small: they employ brass, which is imported. There, as in Gaul, is timber of every description, except beech and fir. They do not regard it lawful to eat the hare, and the @#$%, and the goose; they, however, breed them for amusement and pleasure. The climate is more temperate than in Gaul, the colds being less severe. Most of the inland inhabitants do not sow corn, but live on milk and flesh, and are clad with skins. All the Britains, indeed, dye themselves with wood, which occasions a bluish color, and thereby have a more terrible appearance in fight. They wear their hair long, and have every part of their body shaved except their head and upper lip. ...and about 4,000 charioteers only being left (Now the Britons, when they have fortified the intricate woods, in which they are wont to assemble for the purpose of avoiding the incursion of an enemy, with an intrenchment and a rampart, call them a town.) Thither he proceeds with his legions: he finds the place admirably fortified by nature and art; The Agricola: The physique of the people presents many varieties, whence inferences are drawn: the red hair and the large limbs of the inhabitants of Caledonia proclaim their German origin; the swarthy faces of the Silures, the curly quality, in general their hair, and the position of Spain opposite their shores, attest the passage of Iberians in old days and the occupation by them of these districts; those peoples, again, who adjoin Gaul are also like Gauls, whether because the influence of heredity persists, or because when two lands project in opposite directions till they face each other the climatic condition stamps a certain physique on the human body; Their strength lies in their infantry; but certain tribes also fight from chariots: the driver has the place of honour, the combatants are mere retainers. Originally the people were subject to kings: now the quarrels and ambitions of petty chieftains divide them; nor indeed have we any weapon against the stronger races more effective than this, that they have no common purpose: rarely will two or three states confer to repulse a common danger; accordingly they fight individually and are collectively conquered. The soil, except for the olive and the vine and the other fruits usual in warmer lands, is tolerant of crops and prolific of cattle: they ripen slowly, but are quick to sprout - in each case for the same reason, the abundant moisture of the soil and sky. Britain produces gold and silver and other metals: conquest is worth while. Their sea also produces pearls, but somewhat clouded and leaden-hued. Some people suppose that their pearl-fishers lack skill; in the Red Sea we are to imagine them torn alive and still breathing from the shell, while in Britain they are gathered only when thrown up on shore: for myself I could more readily believe that quality was lacking in the pearls than greed in Romans. The British line, in order to be at once impressive and alarming, was drawn up on higher ground, in such a way that the front rank was on the level, while the rest, on a gentle slope, seemed to be towering higher and higher; the war chariots, noisily manoeuvring, filled the intervening plain. The battle began with fighting at long range; the Britons showed determination and skill in evading or brushing aside the Roman missiles, while on their own side they launched dense volleys of spears; until Agricola ordered four battalions of Batavi and two of Tungri to bring things to the sword's point and to hand-to-hand fighting; a manoeuvre familiar to them from long service and embarrassing to the enemy, whose shields were small and swords too long;

Well thanks for your interest ZeZar, and these are some good questions. Thanks for the offer LD, feel free to post answers in the future (just be vauge) 1) Pop limit will be as high as we can make it with the constraints of the computers when its released. Computers will hopefully be pretty fast. We are shooting for over 100... I'll leave it at that. Won't know till we actually start testing. 2) Zoom yes, Rotate yes (if that option is turned on) 3) Um, the max possible is 5 millitary foot units, 4 millitary cavalry units, 3 support units, 3 siege weapons, 4 ships, 2 Super Units, 3 Heroes. Civs usually don't get everything, some take away as many as 5 of those... but thats the max. 4) No traps 5) Actually beta is set at December 2004, where did you see August? Things have been progressing very well since Summer 2003. Hopefully make our beta deadline. Beta will be by applicant and selection. 6) Not at liberty to say right now 7) About the 'giant' size on AoM is the largest we will go 8) No ladders 9) We are working on those details actually, To see a unit behind any object it will either be full player color, or have player color outline. 10) Depends how much pierce armor the unit its attacking has 11) To me it seems a bit sacreligious to put Jesus in a 'game', not sure about that, we might put Him in the map editor, or leave it up to modders to create Him. 12) All civs will be very unique, with special looks. 13) Your very welcome

I don't know if this is my most favorite commercial ever, but I saw a new one last night where this guy makes a sandwich and grabs a pepsi I think? He goes to set it on the cofee table and his dog runs in, eats the sandwich... grabs the pop can runs out of the screen, comes back with an empty pop can he puts on the table, runs out of the screen again, walks in with a cat in his mouth which he sets on the table, then he runs away leaving the cat to go down for the theft Pretty funny I think its a new pepsi commercial.

Interesting link SDE_Taliesin, makes me wonder if CelticHeart wrote it in the first place. Anyway, I got a responce from him yesterday. He was a little disgruntled that you guys read his article for history when he clearly states in his first paragraph he says 'legends', and this particular legend was his favorite. He also said, that he wouldn't want to defend this as history, because nothing pre-roman could be taken for anything but myth. In any event, he says he is looking forward to your article kor. Oh, and just so you guys know, that articles been on the 0ad website for over a year now... I'm glad so many of you take time to read them

fine work indeed master Sud

I just need a historical druid that would be prominent enough to mention in the game. The name would be attatched to a hero unit in the game, like Coel Hen and Boudicca. Patrick was Christian not pagan, so it would be better if we could find a pagan figure, but being that Britain wasn't introduced to Christianity till 1st century AD, I'd rather have a true Celtic Druid to feature in part I of the game. Patrick can go in the map editor if we can find a replacement
-
lol, Oh BTW kor... I'd appreciate it if while your looking through history on the Celts, could you keep your eye open for a name and history behind a briton druid. I'm looking for a replacment for Saint Patrick as a hero if possible, but having a hard time finding one... Closest thing I've found was Pendaren Dyved which isn't quite as good as I'd like.
-
Ok great, please do so... untill I have it though, I'll leave that one up for motivation for you
-
I'll see if I can contact the author to defend him/herself. In the likely event that I won't be able to contact them... Would you be willing to write one in its place?

I'd say the Kirburn Sword: Here is some text for it: and more: Look Paul I picked something Celtic, your suprised aren't you

Any Of The Old Folks Around?
Wijitmaker replied to Shiva's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
Well since you ask here is a little test image we made a few weeks ago. This is a never been seen before to the public too We have a quite a few models made, but we are waiting on textures till we can actually see them in the map editor to adjust the colors to match the game world. Anyway, yeah it will basically be like AoM now not AoK. -
Any Of The Old Folks Around?
Wijitmaker replied to Shiva's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
Ah cool Actually believe it or not, but this should mean that we will be able to make the buildings faster. This also allows the buildings to have interactions with the world (units walking right next to them, in them, and on them), real time shadows, easier to do texture swaps for seasons, LARGER buildings, better image quality when you zoom in, better destruction and building sequences, ability to move the camera, and ability to do cinimatics. -
