  1. The first one I ever went to was Home Alone, when I was about 4. If you can believe it, I got scared about 15 minutes in and had to spend the rest of the evening with my mom in a resteraunt First movie that I sat through at a theatre was Mulan....my aunt and uncle's treat, so hey, I wasn't gonna pass that up even though I was 14. First movie I went to alone with my bro was LoTR: TTT
  2. If you guys are wondering, here in northern BC we've already had close to 30 inches of snow, a lot has melted and other snow has compacted..... and I hate driving in it too
  3. Another cool thing would be to go back and meet famous people: Jesus, Einstein, Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Duke of Wellington, Julius Caesar, Alexander the Great (just don't be alone with him ), maybe Hannibal, Chinggis Khan (suitably armed/armored...M-16A2 and kevlar sound appropiate), Martin Luther, Guttenburg, Master Ohtsuka (Wado karate founder). Could be cool
  4. I think I'd go back to ancient Rome and take a look around, plus visit all of the great ancient civilizations. Plus I'd go back and see if there really was an Atlantis On a humorous note, I friend of mine once said that if he had a time machine, he'd go back to the American Revolution and bring a LOT of machine guns for the British
  5. Theoden's sword is beautiful but I don't know if they are selling it.....I think a company known as United Cutlery is selling LoTR swords, that might be a place to look.
  6. This in response to a comment made by several people in the "Favorite Sword" thread. What's your favorite LoTR movie sword? For me, Elrond's sword all the way....looks like my katana
  7. My fave from the movies is Elrond's sword so katana-like *idea for new poll*
  8. That they are Man, I would not want to get hit with a falchion! That'd take your arm off pretty easy
  9. Lol doh! Forgot about Chinese broadsword and falx Kopis can double for falcata though! Here's some links to pics We all know what a katana looks like Indian tulwar http://therionarms.com/antiques/therionarms_c362.html Persian shamshir http://www.kultofathena.com/persian_shamshir.html We all know what a gladius looks like Greek kopis http://www.valiantco.com/world1.html (look for it top right) Celtic spatha http://therionarms.com/sold/com079.html P1796 http://www.napoleon-series.org/military/or...wordpoint1.html Medieval Broadsword http://swords.com/site/cart/Medieval/083-P...1adef5ade7c8e7d (not my area of expertise, tons of varieties within this class, as you have probably guessed just choose this one for a pic) Now the voting can begin!
  10. Unfortunatly I haven't seen the Troy preview but I am looking forward to that movie too! Man what great times we live in! Sword swingin movies coming out left and right! A small list: LoTR: RoTK Alexander x2 Troy Last Samurai King Arthur Joan of Arc movie Hannibal All within the next few years
  11. This is partially in response to my topic on the Last Samurai. I'd have to saw my fave is the Pattern 1796 light cavalry saber.....beautiful....but katana and gladius are close seconds. You guys?
  12. ....and MAN!!!! There was this scene where a bunch of the new Japanese army with muskets and bayonets are going to face this bunch of samurai. They line up and wait in this misty forest. Suddenly out of nowhere these samurai just come charging up out of the mist on horseback, in full armor. INCREDIBLE! They looked really good and they sure seemed to give it to the army guys. Tom Cruise actually cutting through a samurai cuirass with a light American cavalry sword was a bit much, but anyway It looked really good (even if the history is gaga) and can't wait to see it Anyone else see the preview or want to see the movie?
  13. 100% guy and LOVING IT!!! So great to be alive And be a guy! *dodges brick, cinder block, tire iron, monkey wrench, golf club, split pine log, stero speaker, authentic antique imitation Chinese porceline, office chair, heavy bristled broom, car door, framed picture of George Bush in a cowboy hat and clown nose, computer moniter, and a 55-gallon oil drum* Enough of bad poetry
  14. I have noble blood, being related to the von Vietinghoff family from Germany. They still exist, and have their own family association.....which I am not a part of but I'm related anyway). One of the family's members was Colonel-General Heinrich von Vietinghoff-Scheel, who was commander in chief of Italy in 1944 and 1945, fighting in WWII from Poland, to Belgium, to France, to Yugoslavia, to Russia, to Italy. He was arrested and charged with war crimes, but seems to have been acquited. It was about a few SS guys who went ape while under his command...... :-( But that's my family lineage...part of it
  15. Hey Icedaddy! Glad to see the community is growing....
  16. Actually, I'd rather be Roman than a Gaul: better armour, HUGE shield that can cover 90 percent of your body, and a sword that is almost always fatal went stabbed into an opponent's thorax. Gauls may have been bigger, but his sword was a slashing sword which the Romans were able to block easily (first off you saw the blow coming from a long way off, prep for the swing just advertises "I'm gonna hit you"), whereas you couldn't detect the stab with a gladius until a split second after he jabbed it out. The long sword vs. short sword thing is exactly the same principle that we use in karate in the round-house-punch vs. harpoon/straight-out-punch that Wado karate uses. The roundhouse/long sword requires a shift in weight, shoulder position, feet position, etc. These just scream "Here it comes!" But a quick "snake strike" punch (in-out) like with a gladius is hard to see (trust me I've been nailed but those punches, and used 'em too ) And biggest thing: Roman was trained how to use his equipment, whereas a Gaul had great fighting spirit (not knocking Gauls at all, just telling my side of the pic ) but was more of an amateur compared. My money would be on the Roman
  17. There are 5 we use in our house: satellite stereo (hooked up to TV therefore required) TV (turn it on and off) VCR DVD quite a few, but once saw a guy on TV who had something like 16....man!
  18. These are the shows I watch: Enterprise JAG NCIS -sometimes Used to watch a lot of TLC, but with all the *decorating* shows on there..... Ancient History Tuesdays on History Channel Stupid Behavior Caught on Tape (if I can find it! not much luck lately.....guy with his head up the elephants butt was hilarious.....serious! ) Lotsa movies....must have either guns, swords, cars, or Derek Jacobi OH AND OF COURSE: America's Funniest Videos!!! That show rules!
  19. I use the username 100%, but then again I'm new here so I'm not used to everybodies' avatar
  20. Yeah that would be cool, because then people can choose what they want, depending on their skills. i.e. I won't do the art contest because I'm only good at technical-type drawings (diagrams, side views of ships, planes, weapons, etc )
  21. I don't know much about the unit list, but I'm guessing here who do you think would be the absolute most dangerous of these units? Romans will be pretty dangerous, the best swordsmen of the ancient world, but don't knock the sheer power of the Spartan hoplite. Gauls would be fast and quick with a good sword, plus the Immortal has a bow to compliment his weapons. It may be a bit early to be asking this, but hey keeps the boards busy Plus speculation is fun!
  22. Welcome I haven't been here long, but I can tell you this is a great community!
  23. Thanks for that one akya! Wasn't sure what it was exactly (obviously ) he may be a dunce, but he made the right decision about Iraq.... Plus Stockwell Day (paraphrasing mind you, old quote): "The Niagra River behind me is a metaphor for the brain drain into the USA out of Canada! All our best minds are goin south." (Niagra River flows northeast )
