  1. Yes but the point of sword cav is that you have 50 of them before 15min. The idea is not to destroy the enemy with this strategy but to capture houses, depots and barracks to suffocate the enemy. I'll try anyway
  2. xfs, back on a17 I had a very strong build with gauls relying on harassing with sword cav. It didn't work anymore on a18 because I couldn't destroy anything anymore (even a house). But now that we can capture I'm starting to think that this build could work. Have someone tried it?
  3. You're right I play too much on Mainland. I'd say factions with Mounted archers have a tiny advantage on open map.
  4. All the maps being difficult to wall off, we can say that all the maps in 0AD are open so it is difficult to answer your question.
  5. I did two games online (2v2 and 1v1) it's been a while but I still got it Capturing is very funny, deciding whether to destroy or whether to capture is key I believe on this alpha. I think I'll start doing videos again for this alpha Alex
  6. Congratulation on new release, gonna try this right away !
  7. Hey Darksun, here are a few tips - At the beginning, put soldiers on wood near CC, Cavalry on Chicken, women on fruits. - The first 15 women you make --> put on wood - Next 10 to 15 women put on farms - research wood upgrade as soon as possible - try to reach 8 to 12 farms with women - almost all your soldiers on wood the first 10min (adapt if you need stone for barracks) - beat the crap out of the IA Have a look in the youtube topic, you'll find some tutorials and guide. Have fun !
  8. Hey ltms and z, I got the same problem as you z, tried the SVN yesterday and my cav was blocked by single trees when scouting.
  9. Hey Karamel, I already tried a few months ago when I was active on 0AD. I'll give it another shot to see what's new. Thing is I don't have as much time as I used to have for games so I wanna focus on the main.
  10. Hi All! It's been a while! I stopped a bit 0AD cause I was playing on Grey goo but I'm back and with a new PC. The new PC allows me to play on giant maps without lag (200 pop cap) and I actually love the idea of huuuuge maps. The problem I see for this kind of gameplay is that defense is gonna be always easier than offense. I think aggressive player will have a very hard time on huge map. However I believe this can be ok if we are allowed to build more than just a CC outside of territory. some siege camp / towers / wood walls can help the "offensive" player. Anyway I love this idea. Alex
  11. this was against very hard AI on Alpha 18, it might help
  12. @DragonzDoom, Check out the youtube topic, you'll find guides and tutorials for beginners.
  13. Their crush damage are too high and their pierce defense are two high. I did tests with Mario, first we used Mauryan champions against 4 fortress and a CC and towers full with units, and some ground units, and then we used rams (same amount of metal for the tests) I can tell you that Mauryan champions are really OP, He destroyed a few towers, a fort and the CC with the Mauryan, but only tower with the rams. Also ba7brain isn't the first one to say it, it has been on scythe list from the first message of this topic. Alex
  14. Hey KingAJ, I didn't play a lot lately but I followed your suggestion with interest and agree with you for the most of it. As for your last post, I really agree with the limit of CC and Forts. However in my experience, someone over expanding can be punished if you go fast phase 3. But I agree on the fact that once both in phase 3, the game is less interested/strategic. PS: KingAJ I'd like to play against you, contact me in PM to arrange games.
  15. Hi Alvaroo, Welcome to the forum ! About exporer, the good point of 0AD now is that in the first minutes of a game, you need to choose between scouting or hunting with your initial cav, or spend 100food 40wood to get another cav and be able to do both. It's more strategic than having all civ with a cav for hunting and an explorer for scouting I think.
  16. Yes a toggle for the treasures would be good. I don't like treasures for two reasons: - In "high" level games, it's not just one more option, getting more treasures than your opponent will be the only objective and the one getting more treasures will win (I mean an extra bush makes the difference in "high" level games, so treasures...) - I like the fact that phase 1 is focusing on building an economy and not a race for treasures. If we have toggle for the treasures, my list would actually grow a lot. I'll try your maps wow.
  17. Again sorry for double post. Here is my list 1. Alpine Valley 2. Corinthian Isthmus 3. Cycladic Archipelago (treasures but seems fine) 4. Lorraine Plain (needs test to check the balance) 5. Neareastern Badlands (Huge but enemies are very close at the beginning) 6. Punjab 7. Zagros Mountains (Might lag, very huge) The others are imo not good for multiplayer (treasures/too big/too many trees so laggy/unbalanced) alex
  18. yeah first we should try these maps and make a list of the potential good maps for multiplayer (I'm really bored of mainland ^^)
  19. Sorry for double post, I played yesterday with Hapoo on skirmisher map (Alps Valley). I think for ingame "testing" of the gameplay and balance, these map are much better. It is more balanced (especially no extra fruit on only 1 player for example that would make his skirm cav rush much stronger than his opponent) Look at sc2, nobody plays on random maps and I think the reason is that the balance of "premade" maps is much better. btw I don't know who made this map (Alps Valley) but it's really beautiful.
  20. @Scythe I think I found an OP simple strat that is almost unstoppable: With Prolemies: At the beginning 4 women on fruits, 4 soldiers on chicken, 1 camel on chicken. (then 2 soldiers on wood and 2 soldiers making houses) First units from CC, 5 camels, --> go with 6 camels. Because you can outreach the CC with the camels, it's really really strong (probably OP). I tried many times with webj (I think 4 games) and against ffm (1 game) and won quite easily all these games. The thing is you can harass women working on fruits without taking any damage from CC. And the only way to stop this is if you do the same BO at the beginning (but everybody starts playing by making women and building a house) I think it can be balanced if the archers/cav archers/camel don't outreach towers and CC anymore..
  21. Usually I build two of the same embassy (we can't build 3 embassy I think) and focus on one of the unit from these embassy (the unit that will go well with the units I'm producing from barracks/forts/CC etc) On some maps, you'll have 2 or 3 extra metal near your base and not much wood --> you'll be happy to have these merco ^^ Like many things, if you adapt to the map, your enemy's civ and your enemy's unit, you'll find an opportunity to use these merco (of course not in every game, you can play a full game carthage without embassy depending on the situation)
