I was thinking something shorter, just a zoom out on a scattering of multicultural architecture and a few units fighting followed up by a 'Wildfire' fade in ... im not well versed in this sort of thing xP

I wouldn't have to hold back on polygon restrictions nearly as much :3 ahahaha I can model the rooftiles, and the metopes and pediment sculptures! so awesome

Age of empires had four at most, and the cool cinematic was at the end so I'd watch the others so i wouldnt accidentally skip past it xP That would be incredibly helpful, I do think menu navigation stutters way too much.

Though I love just jumping right into 0 AD, I feel adopting a kind of loading cinematic from previous commercially made RTS games would 'set the mood' for the rest of the game. I'll use Age of Mythology as an example. The main intro cinematic told out a story, was very impressive and action packed. However the Ensemble studio logo beforehand was less grand and time consuming, yet had a similar feeling. I would love to propose merging the Wildfire logo into a short cinematic to play right before the game loads to 'get our players into it' and imprint the studio name into the player's memory. This way we may be able to get more programmers and artists. I could just be proposing a ridiculous amount of work though, let me know if it's a bad idea.

He looks a tad western for an east Indian, but this is very well executed nonetheless. Well done!

I know I've been here for a while, but I've stayed confined to the Art forums for the most part while I'm here. That of course does not excuse me from an introduction I've been a fan of the RTS genre since I've discovered it, seeing how it allows interactive creativity. Age of Empires Gold was my first RTS game and it is what kickstarted my interest in the ancient world. Age of Kings spiked my interest in the medieval genre. The art of these games is what compels me to play them, I rarely engage the enemy but build massive superfluous cities instead. I've sank quite a few hours into the Stronghold series as well. I am an architect at heart, though I've pursued art for the freedom of media and subject, though at times I regret the decision. The video games I've played greatly influence my art and my will to learn, giving me quite a narrow subject focus. I'm attending Montserrat College of Art in Beverly, Massachusetts at the moment. College presents a whole host of new challenges, but I am getting a little bit better, and widen my media every day. I'm a brony too, so cool beans 20% cooler brohoof ten seconds flat blah blah Fluttershy is best poni /) Now I came to know of 0 AD by Ludo, he found my DeviantArt page and my modelling work and asked me to check the game out and possibly join the team. I'll have to admit I was skeptical at first, but after sinking three days worth of free time into the game I decided I would give modelling some game buildings a go. It is a beautiful game and I would love to help. I posted a lousy model on the forum, and you guys were actually quite receptive. I had worked for teams before, collaboration and compromise have been two big issues with me. I figured learning how to work like this would help me out, help me in finding the areas I fall short, at least. This would be a learning experience. I had around five years of Sketchup under my belt and of course, Sketchup doesn't cut it in game design. But I've learned how to build reasonably complex models quite fast, given my familiarity with the program. I'm having a tough time learning how to model in blender, but hopefully I'll have time over the summer to get a handle on it. You guys have been receptive and generous in your comments and have helped me learn heaps. I will leave these forums a better artist than I came in, and for that you have my thanks. A big thanks to all the modellers that helped me get some designs through the complexities of the inferiority of Sketchup's mesh exports and UV systems. and the awesome texture artists, and our reference finders! This team is great, y'all are cool cheers! -Johnny

Are you doing portraits for only the heroes? I feel like model snapshots as portraits don't really further the feel of the game, but this painted portrait system is awesome. Perhaps we could do this for all of the units? The greek states have some already and they look great. It'd be a lot of work for one artist though Perhaps someone could open a forum subject for unit portraits and let the members pitch in and have the community critique.

Those are incredible mate, I know it's tough to see in the reference image of hannibal, but i think those arent extra horsehair crests on the sides but feathers, correct me if I'm wrong. I think the eye looks fine just how it is.Great job dude

I like this idea, especially if they use them. Having actual idle animations for soldiers would be great. I think the hoplites walking towards resources with their shield and spear at the ready looks a little silly. Especially the foot companions. having both arms free until enemies are within a certain range would look cool, but that'd be a whole lot of work.

Possible Mod Idea: Nabataeans/Lihyanites
LordGood replied to Atenmeses52's topic in Rise of the East
Wee I finally found the thread! I found a few references, and yes, building into cliffs is going to be a pain it the tookus, but it may work out. having individual cliffs for each major structure is silly, I have to say. Preexisting cliffs might work, but freestanding buildings are probably our best bet. From what I've gathered, nabataean architecture is more or less Persian with a heavy Roman influence. I have a few sketches given their form of agriculture I would suggest a low - yield orchard type farming system rather than fields If I'm being stupid please correct me. Just point it out- "yo lordgood that's WRONGG." all i need -
Crowd-Sourced Civ: Ptolemaic Egyptians (Ptolemies)
LordGood replied to Mythos_Ruler's topic in Official tasks
right, no art development thread for the ptolemies yet so I'll dump these here for now. From what I understand there needs to be more hellensitic involvement, but I'd be happy if we got readable placeholder models.
