  1. How about Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth and prosperity in honor of the upcoming Mauryan faction?
  2. I love the idea for this mod! I just wanted to share I made an Egyptian column using google sketchup a few months ago and was wondering if you wanted to use it. It is not the best model-- I am not very good at 3D modeling, but if it is just going to be a part of a building I think it should do. Also, if you want to use real hieroglyphs on your buildings I would recommend the program jsesh ( http://jsesh.qenherkhopeshef.org/ ). I am learning the Middle Egyptian language and use it a lot for that. Keep up the good work!
  3. Also I would like to add that the Persian Temple is Zoroastrian and, despite being a small religion, I don't think any Zoroastrians were offended by the destruction of their temple (I know that there are a lot more Hindus than Zoroastrians in the world, but nevertheless nobody was offended). The destruction of temples is also historically accurate-- For example: the Temple of Jerusalem, among other famous religious sites, was sacked many times in antiquity by the Romans, Assyrians, and Babylonians. I do understand the harm it might do to devoutly religious people, but, as Michael said before if they have a problem with seeing a holy building destroyed, they might not want to play the game. Another thought is that we might want to give the more historically religiously tolerant civilizations, like Persia, a special power that says that when a temple would normally be destroyed, it could change ownership to the conqueror's civilization, and the conqueror would be able to train mercenary units of the conquered civilization from the captured temple. Just an idea for thought! And good work Pureon, I think those look very good and realistic given the images we found.
  4. Cool! I speak a little Latin: Ego cupio studere linguam latinam, sed studio linguam Graeicam nunc! (I want to study Latin but I am currently studying Ancient Greek)
  5. Hello Jeru, Yes, our school is private, but it is not particularly selective-- you need to pass an entrance exam (SSAT-- more information at http://www.ssat.org/ssat/info/home.html) and write out an application complete with recommendations from parents, teachers, and extra-curricular activity coordinators to get in. Most students don't need to be motivated to learn the languages-- a fair number of them have already had prior knowledge of Latin or Ancient Greek and place into a Sophomore or even Junior level class in Freshman year! Also, there is almost no limit to learning in most fields at my high school because it is affiliated with Boston University, a major research university. We eat and study at BU-- This summer I might take a course in basic Middle Egyptian (the language of the Ancient Egyptian Middle Kingdom). There are many classes to choose from, so those who enjoyed the classics in Freshman and Sophomore years often continue to study them at BU in Junior and Senior year. For more information, see our official website: http://www.bu.edu/academy/ If anyone else has questions about the Academy, please feel free to ask me via PM. Thanks for asking! Jason
  6. I think it's from the Behistun inscription, but I'm not sure-- I never got around to learning cuneiform either!
  7. Hello everyone! My name is Jason. I am a high-school student at a high school that follows a "classical curriculum"-- this means that we have to take at least two years of Ancient Greek or Latin, and our studies are focused around the history, culture, and literature of classical civilizations. A few members of our school's community have expressed interest in 0 AD and some, including myself, already play it and enjoy it very much! I have been following 0 AD for a while now-- I think I started following it around Alpha 3 or 4, and I have loved it ever since. I am especially interested in the great depictions of the Persian, Hellenic, and Carthaginian civilizations and the use of the Ancient Greek language in the game (I am learning Ancient Greek along with Arabic outside of my school). I also speak Spanish fluently. I look forward to seeing this game progress more and more as time goes on-- with each new release I find myself playing the game more and more! I could praise this game all day long! I hope to help out in some way, however I do not know how to program nor am I very artistic. I could, maybe, help research, but my school work limits the amount of time I can spend on this for now . Also, feel free to message me about anything related to Near Eastern history or languages-- I love those too and my love for the Ancient Near East is what drew me to this game in the first place! Sincerely, Atenmeses52 (Jason)
  8. Also, I just found this website that could help with the Sanskrit names for the Buildings--Here is a list of the building names from the original post of this thread in both Sanskrit and English: Civilization Centre: madhya House: vasati Corral/Animal Pen: vivIta Mill (wood and mineral dropsite): khalla Farmstead (food dropsite): kSetrikagRha Farm Field: kSetra Palisade (wooden wall): Aphalaka Outpost (wooden tower): uparakSaNa Barracks: sainyAvAsa Dock: naukAsthAnaka Market: ApaNa Temple: devAlaya Defense Tower (usually stone): aTTa Stone Wall: bhitti Wall Tower: attaka Gate: dvAra Fortress: purA There were MANY other Sanskrit words for some of the English words, especially for tower and wall, so I suggest consulting somebody who knows Sanskrit to find the best word, but for now I think this is a decent list. Here is the URL of the website: http://spokensanskrit.de/ In addition, I found a journal article on the Naval history of Ancient India-- I haven't had the time to go through it, but it might be relevant and we could possibly be able to pull some valuable information from it. http://ccbs.ntu.edu..../JR-ENG/cha.htm After more research, I have found a better resource on Ancient Indian ships: http://www.swahiliweb.net/ziff_journal_3_files/ziff2006-05.pdf It includes pictures, but they're not the best quality!
  9. We could also try to make an altar-type building without having statues at all. These images might be a good place to start: http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-0ZQPdiVqQCI/TZcvEq6FjwI/AAAAAAAAGsE/lZYBaByK8xc/s1600/vedic-altar.jpg http://www.karunamayi.org/News/images/atlanta%20vedic%20altar%20puja%20sadhana%20agni%20hindu%20ritual%20worship%20flame%20fire%20roses%20pics_page_10.jpg And here's a geometric sketch of the top-view of an altar: http://ccat.sas.upenn.edu/george/yantra/yantra2.GIF
  10. We could just make the regular stables building be the elephant stables building and have it train both elephant cavalry and regular cavalry. Also, maybe we could include some kind of a Vedic (early Hindu) altar as a unique building. Here are some photos: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/91/Yajna1.jpg http://brahmag.com/images/altar2.jpg http://www.lakeisleretreats.com/images/Altar_Stephen.jpg Some of those images are later altars, but they just give you a sense of the structure of the building... maybe it could be about the size of the Iberian "revered monument."
  11. Kleopatra, the Greek spelling of Cleopatra, the name of every Ptolemaic queen. They could include the unique buildings for the Macedonia faction, the lighthouse and library. These buildings were also famous landmarks of ancient Alexandria, the capitol of the Ptolemaic Empire. Maybe also Krishna, an "avatar" of the god Vishnu, who is the lord of the universe in Hinduism
  12. English and Spanish fluently and a little bit of Arabic, Latin, and Ancient Greek. I'm trying to teach myself Ancient Egyptian-- If anybody speaks that I'd like some help maybe!
