  1. I have a big question to throw out there: Seeing as the Nubians were not that important in the grand scheme of things, I think it might be best for now to just include them as a branch of Egyptians or as Egyptian mercenaries. If they are mercenaries, that pyramid model can be used in the editor... I think we should be focusing on the Phonecians and regular Egyptians before we start work on the more minor civilizations.
  2. For egyptian there is a word processing program used by egyptologists (It's Open Source!) called jSesh that will export hieroglyphs to unicode characters. Here's the website: http://jsesh.qenherkhopeshef.org/ An easier option would just be to write out the Ancient Egyptian words in the Coptic (Christian Late Egyptian) alphabet, which is supported by dejavusans...
  3. They look great! Just one concern: the Ankh design looks a little weird to me with the hole in the shield... the Ankh was rarely used as an isolated symbol in Egyptian art. I would replace it with something a god (I know the Egyptian military named their battalions after gods like Ra or Ptah). that is Ptah and this is ra: (I am learning Middle Egyptian) Other than that, Great Work!
  4. My school work has been picking up... so I probably won't be working until early-mid June.... I promise I can do a lot then though! I love all of the progress that's been going on! The Phoenicians and Egyptians especially! I'll be on here occasionally to give my opinion if something is really important, but for now, I'll see you all in June
  5. So I have an idea for the design of the hero units: Since chariots were used by the royalty a lot (and I mean to the point where royalty are rarely ever seen in anything other than a chariot) each hero should have a chariot, and on each chariot should be the hieroglyphic name in a cartouche (a ring around the name that shows it's a royal name). I can supply these later if we decide to go with the idea. Also, we could put some generic hieroglyphic inscriptions, which I can also provide, on buildings, shields, prop stelae, etc...
  6. Zaphzaph, Just a note on the names: What form of Greek is that? (Mycenaean, Homeric, Attic (probably not), or Proto-Greek) I would encourage you to look up some Canaanite words and maybe alternate between Greek and Canaanite names for the units. Have you thought about cavalry yet? I'm not sure how we would go about doing that exactly... I doubt the Sea Peoples had horses on their ships... One last question: Do you want to be an official team member? If you do, just message me and we can add you! -Atenmeses52
  7. Here are my Hero Ideas: 1.) Ramses II (see above and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ramses_II) 2.) Thutmose I (A great military leader http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thutmose_I) 3.) Akhenaten (reformed Egyptian religion to become monotheistic, following only the sun disk Aten, and he built a new city and cult center for his new Religion which he made the capital of Egypt. Although Egypt's military strongly decreased during his reign, he was a revolutionary thinker and managed to construct a huge city within his short reign. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Akhenaten)
  8. Preferably use the following Civs to represent the Bronze Age Civs: Persians->Assyrians Carthaginians->Phoenicians Mauryans->Egyptians Spartans->Minoans Athenians->Mycenaeans Macedonians-> Sea Peoples Romans->Hittites Iberians->Hebrews Gauls->Babylonians Britons->Nubians I tried to match up the civs as best I could, but the majority of these are just arbitrary decisions -Atenmeses52
  9. I would agree with you, Buzrum, partially because I have tracked my ancestry to Samnium, but I think the Samnites are a little too insignificant to add to this mod. I'd love to see them as a separate mod though! If you can supply enough valid information that proves their great importance (make them at least as important as the Sea Peoples), then we could include them in the mod. I know already about the Samnite Wars during early Rome, and that is one reason, but the Hannibal thing is too far out of our timeframe for this mod. Also, Sorry everyone that this mod has not been going anywhere for about a month... I, for one, have had a lot of work and haven't been able to work on this as much as I'd like to. I'm also traveling to Italy (Tuscany) in a week, so if we need architectural references for anything I can probably get photos. I hope to start actual mod development on this whenever I have more free time, and I'd like to see us make tons of progress over the summer.
  10. When I first saw the Ashoka Maurya Hero Unit, I thought it looks more like Ashurbanipal than a Mauryan.... Maybe, if they redo it, we could use the current model, seeing as it is a near perfect match for an Assyrian king.
  11. Actually, how about we have the modelers make 100% Egyptian models (which can be used as they are for the Bronze Age mod) and then they can use some of the Hellenic Factions' building components to Hellenize them and make the Ptolomaic building set. That way we kill two birds with one stone.
  12. I also like that idea. It reminds me a lot of the Consulate building in AOE III: The Asian Dynasties.
  13. Seeing as when a country allows foreign embassies in their borders, they also often times have an embassy in the other country's borders. We could give Carthage a special team power that allows all of its team members to build a Carthaginian embassy and train Carthaginian soldiers. Just an idea though... I don't even know if this is historically accurate, but it might be fun for gameplay!
  14. Here is the link to our official wordpress page. http://fallenempiresstudio.wordpress.com/ Also, @ Lion.Kanzen, When I have more time (maybe over the weekend) I can do one or two of the more important civ's complete design documents. Once they are done I'll share them with you on Google Drive and I can send a public link to each civ's thread with that civ's design document.
  15. Okay Lion, I'll email you shortly (I just don't want it posted publicly)
  16. I might be able to help with translations. I can track down some Punic language resources and try to translate the basic sayings... I think it would be more realistic than just using Hebrew or Arabic. Another option might be to find a native Berber speaker and use that... It's pretty different from Punic, linguistically speaking, but was spoken in the same region as Punic Phoenician. Here's some Phoenician (the direct linguistic predecessor to Punic): anek aqtal: I am killing/ I will kill adony/meleky?: my lord? a7aresh: I am tilling/ I am farming/ I will farm (the 7 is the arabic letter Haa (in between jim and khaa; it's pronounced like you are blowing on glass to fog it up. There's no Hebrew equivalent sorry )
  17. Brief History (off the top of my head.... I can do more later): The Phoenicians began as a tribe of Canaanites who settled in the agriculturally fertile region in the Northern Levant (Lebanon and Coastal Syria). They formed city-states, much like the Greek poleis. Some of the most famous of these city-states were: Sidon, Tyre, Byblos, and Baalbek. Most of these cities are still inhabited today. It's hard to find Phoenician ruins because they are buried under later Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Arab, Ottoman, and Modern buildings. The city-state of Tyre, in southern Lebanon, sent a princess, named Elissa (Latin: Dido) to found Carthage. The myth goes that she was running away from her evil father and she fled to Africa, where she made a deal with a local chief that if she could surround land with her shirt, she could own the land for free. She cut up her shirt and tied it up into a long rope and encircled the area of the city-state of Carthage, and it was given to her for free! The Phoenicians were also master merchants and sailors, establishing trade routes to as north as England, and possiby as south as what is now Ghana and Cote-d'-Ivoire. They are a very unique culture, and I am proud to have them represented in this game!
  18. Translations are also my thing ! I know a few people who can help with proto-Greek and Mycenaean translations. I can do Ancient Egyptian and Phoenician, and possibly Assyrian translations myself. For Hebrew, we should ask Jeru or someone else from Israel, and for Minoan I'd use Luwian (might be hard to find people who know this though) or just use the same proto-Greek that the Mycenaeans use.
  19. Whoa that's really good. It's simple but elegant. I like it a lot.
  20. I don't want to sound cheap, but I'd like to preferably spend no money on this. Is it free, because from the looks of it you have to pay at least $7.00/month.
  21. Is there a way that we can set up a Trac and SVN repository for our mod? (I'm awfully new at this if you haven't realized already) I think that is an efficient way to compile all of our necessary files. If/Once it gets set up I (or Lion) will post the required links to this thread.
  22. I would just do a wordpress/ blogspot for now. Later, once we actually have stuff to show off we can set up a Moddb. I'd also like to be co-founder if it's possible Also, can we get a list of all people who want to be involved in this mod? Just post on thread or message Lion or I. Thanks!
  23. Actually, religion was a very standard thing throughout the Ancient Near East, with each civilization having its own name for the same god. Other common gods include Baal (that's the Canaanite/Hebrew name)/ Bel (Assyrio-Babylonian Name), Astarte/Ishtar/Ashtaret, An/El/Al-Lah (Progresses eventually (etymologically at least) to Allah and Eloheinu) just to name a few. If we were to base the Nabataeans on another civ, it should be based on a cross of Persian and Carthaginian, but more heavily un-Hellenized Carthaginian.
  24. I was actually thinking that we should put off actually working on this civ until the Ptolemies are at least partially modeled and textured so we could maybe take those models then and modify them (un-Hellenize them) and use them for this civ. We could do units now though.... but I'd rather we focus on the civs that we'll have to do from scratch, like the Assyrians, Mycenaeans, and Phoenicians.
  25. How's this for a name: Aristeia: A Bronze Age Mod for 0 A.D. Aristeia is a Homeric concept of a warrior's defining moment in his career (It can be equated to a nation's Golden Age, but on a personal level). It is often followed by his death. Since Homeric warriors were most likely Mycenaeans, this might be a good name. Also, @Lion, First, Great to have you back! Second, Did you make a website for Fallen Empires? I think you said you did a while back, but I might not be remembering correctly.
