  1. I would love to include them, don't get me wrong, it's just that they were more of a barbarian people who never really settled down, so buildings would be hard to make for them. We could, however, make them mercenaries for the Mycenaeans, as Lion.Kanzen prieviously mentioned. This mod will be really good!
  2. I wish education in America was more heavy on languages-- I find that I have to learn them on my own if I want to learn languages other than French and Spanish very well. (I do tend to enjoy learning less "mainstream" languages though, and that may not be the case for many Americans...)
  3. I chose the name Rise of the Bronze Sun because sun in the Ancient Egyptian language can also mean age, time, or epoch. Therefore Bronze sun is the same in meaning as Bronze Age. Ancient Armenians see: http://www.livius.or...nia/urartu.html Also, the Sea Peoples were most probably Semites from Canaan, so if we include Hebrews and Phoenicians, there would be little need for Sea Peoples. Some archaeologists believe they were exiled Mycenaeans as well, but the Mycenaeans will definitely be included anyway. As for Hittites, I agree that they should be included, but Urartu is getting a little too obscure... They were generally conquered by regional powers and there is not much to differentiate them from other regional civilizations. We could just use Persians or Assyrians to represent them.
  4. Hah! I had to memorize that for my English Class! XD Also, Is anyone interested in trying to learn Farsi? I've always wanted to...
  5. Shakespeare is actually modern English-- This is Old English: Hwæt! We Gardena in geardagum, þeodcyninga, þrym gefrunon, hu ða æþelingas ellen fremedon. Oft Scyld Scefing sceaþena þreatum, 5 monegum mægþum, meodosetla ofteah, egsode eorlas. Syððan ærest wearð feasceaft funden, he þæs frofre gebad, weox under wolcnum, weorðmyndum þah, oðþæt him æghwylc þara ymbsittendra (From the Original Introduction to Beowulf)
I am currently learning Ancient Greek, and I wanted to see if anyone would like to practice it. I find writing and translating English->Greek to be the best way to keep it up. Also, it might be cool if someone translated 0 A.D. into Ancient Greek and Latin at some point!
  7. I would like to propose an official name for this series of mods-- 0 A.D. Rise of the Bronze Sun. I chose this because in the Ancient Egyptian language Bronze Sun (ra Hsmn) also means Time or Age of Bronze (Bronze Age) so it has a double meaning. Our logo could be the 0 A.D. logo superimposed on a Bronze Sun. Just an idea though... does anyone else have any thoughts?
  8. Yeah! That's what I wanted the Treasury Special building to be. See in the design document for details.
  9. I agree that it should have to do with Maurya India, but Megasthenes was the ambassador to India from a Hellenic kingdom in Syria, so, in reality, both Magadha and Megasthenes have to do with India, and Megasthenes has to do with relations between India and other civilizations that are in 0 A.D.
  10. I like Megasthenes, but I also like Magadha... I think we should vote. Does anyone know if there's a way to do polls in this forum?
  11. It seems that they had a small group of people, each with specialized talents-- a few modelers, some programmers, a project leader. Would it be possible to get Kimball's help/ a few pointers, for our mod?
  12. I was thinking the same thing-- these divisions were just for administrative organization, we would release them all together though. I just wanted to specialize everyone who was working on the mod (It's an awfully large mod), so if you are an expert in a certain civilization, or are really interested/committed to seeing them in the game, you can be on that "team."
  13. If you're interested in making mods for 0 A.D., then we need your help! We are currently beginning work on a series of 0 AD DLC modpacks focused around the Bronze Age Mediterranean. We are in need of Programmers, 3D Modelers, 2D Designers, and anyone else willing and able to help. Please reply to this post or to our thread in the Modifications section of the forum.
  14. How about we split this mod into teams: One team works on one "DLC Pack" at a time. Each DLC pack can get a new thread (or we can request a new subsection within this subforum) This way it's more organized and easier to sort through all of the research. And of course everyone can collaborate between the teams, but your team would be the DLC pack you feel that you most would like to see in the game. Here is what I'm thinking: Africa DLC: Egyptians (New Kingdom) Nubians A Sub-Saharan Kingdom (not sure yet, but maybe Kush... any ideas?) Aegean/ European DLC: Mycenaeans Minoans Hittites Etruscans Mesopotamian DLC: Assyrians Babylonians Sumerians (maybe Elamites?) Canaanite DLC: Hebrews/ Israelites Phoenicians Nabataeans Any other ideas/ other civs to add?
  15. Also, I was thinking, that way we can all focus on just a single aspect of the mod at a time and it makes organizing the workload a lot easier. (ex: we could all start with Aegean civs and then later move on to doing African civs)
  16. Here's what I posted to the Nabataean thread... It applies more here I think:
  17. That sounds good! I can help do more design documents for the other civs. Just add Nabataea to the list! Maybe instead of Bronze Age civs, since Nabataea is not really Bronze Age, we could do it by location. LIke we could have Mycenaeans Minoans, and maybe Trojans or Illyrians in an Aegan DLC and Assyrians, Babylonians, and Sumerians in a Mesopotamian DLC, Phoenicians, Hebrews, and Nabataeans in a Canaanite DLC, and Egyptians, Nubians, and some other African Kingdom (Mythos Ruler had some ideas a while ago) in an Africa DLC pack. Any thoughts?
  18. If Lord Good has time maybe he could try to make some models... but for now we can work on gathering research and 2D graphics (textures, emblems etc...) @Lion.Kanzen you seem to be pretty good at that. For shields I was thinking something small and round like in those references on the first page of this thread. Wicker texture would be good. We an also do bronze shields and put some symbols like the ones I posted before on them.
  19. Technically speaking, Hebrews along with Moabites and Phoenicians are all Canaanites. so yes... Hebrews vs. Phoenicians or Hebrews vs. Hebrews would work.
  20. I'd leave it as is and then just have the units be hellenized. I think it looks AMAZING.
  21. Do we want to include China, or should we leave that to Rise of the East? If we do, maybe we could merge mods with them.
  22. Yes! I forgot about them. If we have Mycenaeans, we should also include Minoans. Also, maybe, Etruscans, Nubians, and Hebrews/ Israelites. And under Mesopotamian Civs there are also Babylonians and maybe Sumerians (they are a little too early, but might be interesting)
  23. I mostly do research and stuff like that, but I can sort of model. For now, I can only use SketchUp... when I have more time I'd like to learn Blender.
  24. Yeah... I was looking up the Syriac/Aramaic word for market and it was actually something like baz'ar, so they really haven't changed much
