It is not easier to make a high quality 2D game, as I have said before. If you want simple "Legend of Zelda" style sprites, then maybe so... but that's not the "look" we want to see with the game. We want something that looks nice, so to accomplish that in 2D will require high poly modeling and renders. This would not be any easier than the current approach.

Good catch! -
What do the various squares and stuff represent?
-
Perhaps we can contact the Europa Barbarorum 2 guys and see if they'd want to help in any fashion, if only for references.
-
The Cataphract is more of an Eastern thing. "Hetairos" is more closely associated with Greeks/Macedonians.
-
You can't. You don't have enough posts.
-
We already have that. See my custom rank?

Scenarios should probably use whatever player color the designer assigns, while random maps (and the 'skirmish maps' we'd like to have) should allow players to choose their colors.
-
Nice find. I just wish we could get some reconstruction artwork. It's difficult to visualize a lot of this stuff.
-
Meaning we don't have to have it so that all civs have an equal chance of being chosen.
-
"Random" doesn't have to be completely random.

I have plans within plans.

We're not sure how we're going to do it yet. I would like to be able to click back and forth between levels at-will and seamlessly (both levels are running simultaneously), but who knows what's feasible until we start implementing things. We can come up with a reasonable design though and work from there. We had some internal discussions last month about it.

Hi, m8! Thanks for the application. Here are the kinds of things we need to complete the art for 0 A.D.: - 3D Biome assets, such as rock formations, trees, animals (+animations). - 2D Biome assets, such as high quality terrain textures. - Low/Medium poly buildings for civilizations, such as the Mauryan Indians. - GUI design and textures. - Single-player campaign assets, both low and medium poly. - Human bipedal animations. Do you have any experience with Blender and Collada file format? Thank you for your time.

Archaeology (historical accuracy) help provided
Mythos_Ruler replied to anjin's topic in Applications and Contributions
We could probably use some help on the Celtic tech tree. Interested? The guy who designed the current Celt tech tree turned out to be a fraud, so I'm not sure what's accurate and what's not. -
It's a relatively simple thing to conceptualize all the cases where the AI needs to modify its behavior and do this or that, but it's another thing to actually code the AI to do these things.
-
Right, something akin to the Roman siege walls, but unique-looking.
-
The Temple already has such a tech available to research. EDIT: Also, Healers have ranks just like other units, and their healing powers increase dramatically for each promotion.
-
Right, basically a simplified version of Rome:Total War, but in real-time and with our own brand of gameplay. The GUI in that shot is purely mockup. However, you can play around with the map a little and dream of what could be--it's in the "Demo" maps under "Strategic Campaign Proof of Concept." Those with Alpha 10 and the SVN version have it.
-
The current idea for single-player campaign is to have a high-level "Strategic" meta game where you're moving armies and characters around on a large map, founding cities and attacking each other, then when you attack each other you have the option of zooming down to the low-level "tactical" level where you do all of the normal RTS-stuff. Something like this:
-
Yep, sounds like their palisades will be their city walls.
-
There's definitely a terrain shadow on the Death Canyon map, no?
-
Parthians will be a full faction in 0 A.D. Part 2.
