Come see Paul's home :)
Mythos_Ruler replied to Paal_101's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
I have also seen a satellite photo of my house, but using a different map service. It was soon after the 9/11 terrorist attacks, so I looked at Ground Zero as well and the images were up-to-date and even showed the devestation from space. PS: There are convicts living across the street from you? -
Actually, the random shields is the one feature I am looking forqard to the most. Units will still be identifyable - through their weapon. Each civ only has one standard unit that's a swordsman; one who's a spearman; one who's a javelin thrower; etcetera. So, players will learn to identify troops be th type of weapon each unit carries. Learning a new way of identifying troops, as well as being forced to learn the in and outs of each civ's set of art, is what I am looking forward to.

Or T-1000s

well, "barbaric" is a relative term. Personally I see no difference between stabbing someone with a gladius and blowing them up with a grenade, as far as barbarism goes. In fact, IMHO, the way war is becoming so impersonal encourages atrocities. The U.S. military is even developing the world's first combat droid. Now our enemies won't even get the common courtesy of being shot by a human being.

Who would you like to meet
Mythos_Ruler replied to Centurion_13's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
I know this was supposed to be a secret, but I have been planning a 0 A.D. "wrap party" to be held at my house when the game goes "gold." You are all invited! BYOB. -
The Pope is dead ...
Mythos_Ruler replied to Curufinwe's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
Well, conservative or liberal, the Pope isn't the only force in the Church. -
Well, when you play a game that has hundreds of units, the autoqueue comes in handy. WC3 is hardly what I'd call a "high pop" game.

The Pope is dead ...
Mythos_Ruler replied to Curufinwe's topic in Introductions & Off-Topic Discussion
The majority of who? The Pope represents Catholocism, not the World. Also, last time I checked, most American Catholics believe in contraception, divorce, and other things that defy church teachings. -
Yes, all very similar.
-
I like King's Island.... it's a poor man's Cedar Point.

Six people reading this thread at the moment. One of the goals of the game is to get away from the "attack of the clones" look we see in modern RTS and RTT titles, such as Rome:Total War. As othes have already said, the plan is to include randomization features in hair color, face, and shield textures to help make those classical age armies truly "come alive." There are also plans to implement some cool naming conventions that I won't detail here, as well as possibly a "casualty list" of sorts. There are also multiple upgrades to each unit (basic, advanced, ultimate), each one providing a unique appearance to units. We just havent had the randomization code to implement these things. So, be patient.

I think you'll be able to find some tentative system requirements in the FAQ on the 0 A.D. page. However, if I was to guess, you're gonna need a step up from what is listed in the FAQ.

Don't forget the Minoans for their naval power and healthy outlook on life.

Well, we don't want to give too much away about the game, so that's why CheeZy replied in his ambiguous way. Let's just say yes, walls will be cool. Walls will be more important than in AOM. Walls will even be cooler than AOK's walls. With the game design the way it is, don't look for players to wall off half the darn map, like in AOM. However, as a hobbyist developer we aren't able to make walls as cool as we all want them, BUT they will be much more realistic than AOM or AOK. Make of that what you will.

Yeah, they "disappeared" from history soon after Atilla's death. One wonders what happened to them.
-
Exactly. There should be immediate and dangerous drawbacks to using bridges, as well as immediate and substancial advantages. Building a bridge: Pros: Continual flow of troops from one combat zone to another Transport large quanitities of units No need to transport troops by ship Cons: Long to build Expensive Dangerous to use
-
For gameplay purposes, the units die.
-
They fall in the water and sink to the bottom due to the armor they are wearing.... they die.

I personally want a Toyota Camry - maybe a 2001 or 2002 (used cars = less $$$). Good looks, good gas mileage, low maintenance. Pimp ride.
-
Dont worry, I'll take a picture of my car soon and all you Europeans can make fun of it. Deal? teeheehee
-
No offense or anything, because my car is 10 years old, but are all European cars so bloody ugly? I hope not. Congrats all the same though. Does it have that "new car" smell??

Wijit, sometimes in the AOM editor enemy units, if placed within LOS, will start to attack each other. Other things that happen include entities with finite lifespans in the game die out within the editor if placed - like Mercs and various special effects. Quite annoying, although one can get around this through triggers. @ Quacker: Remember, there are females on the team, so keep your comments to a minimum. Don't want to run the risk of offending anyone's sensibilities with that obviously anti-female AOM rant you just posted there.

Don't worry. When 0 A.D. is complete you won't have ANY trouble finding a way to download it. We'll make sure of that! LOL
-
That is interesting. A sort of "regicide" game, or "sudden death" type game.

Interesting idea! *takes notes* :)
