  1. The next one to comment Ludo's arts must post a new nice screenshot depicting an epic moment of the game! @Ludo38 - I attached the font of the "History is yours..." text. optimusprinceps.zip
  2. GIMP is great for working with any image and is free, unlike photoshop. Also has an easy tool to add alpha channel to parts of an image, you'll just have to google a "how to" and be happy.
  3. I use Eclipse for programming with the plugin Subclipse for subversion. It doesn't offer the option to show someone what you've done, but it offers some shortcuts to compare different versions and all that.
  4. I made this crap for you to feel what i was talking about...
  5. Awesome work. I tried to make something similar, but i'm no artist and all i could do was a pure mess, so threw that crap away. I'd just add the rocky background of the first art on the immediate proximity behind the "0 AD" (as if in a sculpture), just to make it stand out a bit more (but i suspect it'll turn the whole thing too polluted, you're the artist, you'll see what's best for it). EDIT: Brynn's work could also be used in the website, uh?
  6. Yeah, recycling buildings is a good idea, but bare-handed soldiers had no means to destroy fortifications. Simple structures, like houses, though, could be destroyed, but I think that's not relevant enough and loyalty is still the way to go. I have to disagree that the barbarians are meant to seek and destroy everything in their path. actually, the romans used to destroy more than the barbarians, or have you heard of romans occupying a celtic village?
  7. besides a minor contribution with Blender translation (some versions ago) i can't say i did much. But i mean i did all my programming projects using SVN, and, for god's sake, it's hell hard to coordinate the job, but i find it harder to face thousands of lines of a code you're not familiar with and in a language you're not very confident in, don't you agree? Once you've broken that "unfamiliarness" barrier, you'll of course look forward to solve the SVN problem, but this first barrier is the worst.
  8. I'd lend my voice to any tutorials, if one needs. My microphones may not be the best ones, but i think their quality is enough for this task.
  9. The most attractive feature for a developer would be good documentation. I'm used to work with SVN, i just don't have much time to focus on a language and large bunch of code i'm not familiar with. I'm trying to help with the AI, though, that is easier to understand.
  10. He finds the units' name in their own language plus their role is enough names. There is no need to add such a feature, though it would enhance the immersion.
  11. Yes, we are the gamers, but so are the develpment team. Plus they work for free in this, we can't ask them more than they are willing to do, it's just not fair. But since the project is open-source, you can go ahead and mod it, or pay someone to do the hard work for you.
  12. I think the buildings should have a "loyalty level" that increases or decreases depending on how many military units are nearby and which player owns them, then, when all the loyalty is gone, the building was "occupied" and starts a slow timer to capture the building. When the building is totally captured, then you can start using the building for your own purposes, but the it shouldn't train foreign troops. About the walls, i personally think it makes no sense for rams to destroy walls. Rams were meant to destroy gates (only) and should be able to be built by all infantry even in the field of battle. Another note: Rams are currently devastating against gates, shouldn't there be some diminishing returns for when there are too many rams battering a single gate?
  13. Maybe a trader should have a metal (gold) limit and another resource limit. The trader could trade between allies until he got that gold limit, and then he'd have to go back to his market or a civic center to deposit the gains. just a wild idea...
  14. I like the art, but IMO it lacks some elements to impress one that doesn't know anything about the game. I mean, The game is about ancient warfare but all you see is a shadow of what looks like a palm. What would you think? I guess it could have some epic confrontation and/or some of the beautiful landscape of the game.
  15. Everybody builds towers, spies would be caught before entering a base. I'd sugest for them to become invisible, and while invisible they walk more slowly. This way they could be used to scout, but could also be used to infiltrate enemy bases and localize weak spots, try to open the gates, bribe units to passively spy for a certain amount of time (giving LoS of that unit), etc. I agree, though, with the max spies limit, for this makes them too valuable to be set as sentries next to gates, thus impeding enemy spies to act.
  16. Following the real life logic, a trader goes far away from his town, buys some special goods not present at his town, then resells the goods at his market with a much higher value. So, not only the trader should receive some money, but the market in which he buys too.
  17. I have no doubts about this, man. The only problem is how far ahead this change will happen.
  18. I've thought about something like this as well, but though it still is a RTS game, it changes the mechanics of the game completely, so a change like this is not likely to occur.
  19. 1x1, since i know the problems with many AIs. And as i thought, the problem seems to be my crappy GPU, as say the screenshots... Both taken on the Deep Forest map, in one i tried to force the lag, the other was back at my base (Not much difference, though). As i thought, the problem seems to be my crappy GPU, while trying to play the game in such a high res. I'm using windows 7, btw. EDIT: It's me against Aegis bot.
  20. Both of you are right. I can't think any solid reason for this feature in a game the style of 0 A.D. I've seen, though, a RTS where something like this was part of the game mechanic and i liked very much, so i thought of mixing it with some other good aspects of other games (like this one), came up with this idea and posted it even before thinking seriously about it. ( is the game i talked about, in which every male adult may be put to be trained in something, e.g. one can enter a temple and train to become a priest, and then enter a barracks and train to be a swordsman instead of priest)
  21. My CPU is an Intel i5-2310 2.9 GHz with 8 GB, with the GPU of the processor. Although the FPS was good, the game had some momentary freezing (of some milisecs every some seconds, nothing very annoying) on maps with many trees like the Deep Forest (which is one of the coolest, IMO), even at early game. I guess that's due to the crappy "GPU"...
  22. Why not making some units dismountable, then? I mean, the Civic Center could train the horse riders, but they should get horses at the local stable to then be able to ride. Of course there would come many issues, we'd have to think if it would be good for two units to merge/split or if they'd be forever two entities that just walked together, the artists would have to make animations for mounting/dismounting, death of a riderless horse, death of a mountless rider, and this feature would end up being postponed for part two.
  23. The team is well aware of that, but we couldnt find sufficient material to change it, so it was agreed to use Spanish, instead, that is at least related to the Iberian Peninsula. I think you are confusing Civic Centre with Political Centre. Plus, the greeks were very proud of their culture, so to use their own language to name buildings. It is already planned, just not implemented yet. I think it is an already planned feature, too. Can't say much about this, you'll have to ask what are the plans of the team. Unit behavior is also already planned The naval battle system has not been implemented yet. I doubt it'll be just like those, but it'll be very fun, too. The developers are aware of this too, just have some patience. Personally, seeing how far our AI has reached since last year, i'd be surprised if someone doesn't like it when the game comes live. Are the wonders so important? I myself could live without them, but sure, if not wonders, something similar is being planned for those game modes you are fond of. Some of units are lacking some animations, yet, but they'll come.
  24. I know, man, and i'm not pressing you. I just wanna make the situation (and the proposals of the units) crystal clear. I like this community and i want nothing but the utmost success for this game.
