AoM's aura is not passive, though, it would everwhelm us after a while -
2 problems with citezens soldier consept of the game
Pedro Falcão replied to bill2505's topic in General Discussion
Dude, i didn't understand exactly what you meant, but i think you are misunderstanding. I don't know if you've seen the new tech tree Mythos_Ruler showed us, but the main idea is that the player chooses the civ that fits your style, not adapt the civ for your style. Of course (well, i hope) no civ will have a ridiculous advantage above another, except for in certain circumstances. Like the Iberians, that don't have great war ships, yet. P.S.: Starcraft's races are balanced, you just have to find your favorite race... or play as random to show how awesome you are! (BTW, i'm a protoss player, low numbers, strong units). -
A relevant question about modding: Is there a way to make visual effects on the landscape e.g. for an earthquake?
-
Well, you can't earn money with it, be sure of that. This said, if i'm not wrong, you can modify at your will as long as you keep it a freeware. But i've seen once that the sound department uses another license, so you'll have to watch out for that.

Don't forget the developers aren't paid, they are doing this game because they are fans of it already. But since they don't get paid, they can only do what is comfortable for them to do and i don't blame them for this. This doesn't interfere, though, on the fact that two heads think better than one, and that we may have had experiences they didn't.

Well, we could disable it as default. What about the idea for this forum to hold the statistics?

Technologies
Pedro Falcão replied to Mythos_Ruler's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
I'd say we shouldn't think too hard about techs yet, they'll need some reforms when we are balancing the units, so it's a waste of time, yet. Michael's tree should suffice for now. -
The face with the tongue out of the mouth reminds me of a documentary i watched just yesterday Discovery Channel about Medusa. The pic represents a gorgon, that means "horrible creature", in ancient greek. A cool fact is: pics with the same characteristics (pointy teeth, tongue, wide eyes...) are represented in almost every ancient civilization (aztecs, chinese, indians, egyptians...), and although all got different myths about them, all of them shared the idea that it represented a bad thing.

2 problems with citezens soldier consept of the game
Pedro Falcão replied to bill2505's topic in General Discussion
That's the point. If you play Iberians, you'll become vulnerable by sea. Every civ and every strategy has a weak point, the skill of the players (to find the weak spot of your own strategy and of the enemies' strategies and explore both as best as possible) is what must determine the end of the match, dontcha think? -
Some facebook games do have the option to publish the scores, but i don't think any stand-alone game publishes the scores, at least i've not seen any. And those freemium games have their advertises on the right side of your feeds or above (and under) the facebook games.

No, 0 A.D. would be pioneer, i think.

Dude, i was kidding. Who knows the if the celtic druids used their influence with the wilds to lift those stones, instead of thinking? But no, i don't think our ancestors weren't intelligent, it is really a mystery how they achieved such feats as building the pyramids just centimeters away from perfectly aligned with the equator line and probably we'll never uncover these mysteries, since most records of their knowledge were destroyed when the Egypt was first invaded. What a fascinating level of astronomy they had.

True, it's not good to see your free work contributing to others' bank acc, but if you have facebook, you are already contributing and if you don't, why care if people want to share their scores with friends?

That's quite what i have in mind. I think raiding should be encoraged as an alternative (and quite effective) option against "early expansionists" that leave towns undefended and without walls, then you'd gather some cavalry archers and hit-n-run the workers. -
I don't get why newbie players would scare potential contributors, zoot. After all you only play with whom you want to, isn't it true?

automatic rebuild of farms
Pedro Falcão replied to mimo's topic in Game Development & Technical Discussion
You misunderstood again, mimo. As you said, "discussions with pro/cons about the other ways to implement such infinite farms are interesting points for this thread". And since i disagree with your opinion (i like the way it is now), i tried to expose another examples of infinite sources that do work. Want to go for realism? Sure, i don't think one uses planks neither "builds" a harvest, as i said, part of the harvest is used to replant it. Want to go for gameplay? Sure, Rebuilding farms is just one more thing you have to keep in mind while IMHO it adds nothing really productive to the game. You threw us your patch and showed your opinion, okay, i said this was a matter already discussed, you could find the topic of discussion to read more the pros and cons, hoping for you to see the merit of the team to make things this way. But you take it personal and becomes aggressive. It is fine, i may have insisted too much, and i won't disturb your technical discussion anymore, but don't talk to anybody that way, like you or not one's opinion, it is a public discussion thread. -
You can always mod the game to do your bidding. But, answering your question, no, we don't have bridges yet.

Do you believe Celtic people could lift those massive stones with but a glimpse of the technology we have today? You know, there are many things without answer, in our universe...

automatic rebuild of farms

We already have an infinite source of food: sheeps; yet you complain just because farms provide a steady income. -

Maybe some tool to auto-hunt would solve this problem... -
Who told you the Celtics built the Stonehenge???

I must agree, though the idea of raiding, in 0 AD, could use some improvements, yet. -
