  1. He does have a cape, and ptereges (I think, unless it's just a more intricately designed tunic) under his bell cuirass (the others have muscled cuirasses, but it's kinda hard to see). It's probably too late, but I think it'd be better if Leonidas was the only one with a transverse crest. The Spartiates could probably have high crests or double crests or something instead. But if not, maybe he could have different colours on his crest, maybe red and black rather than the same red and white as his fellow Spartiates. Again, if not, maybe this will make him stand out a bit:
  2. This design is pretty hard to do, so it make take a while, but I'll make it a top priority. By the way, who made the Greek shields in the current game? Any tips on how they made them look so ... perfect?
  3. Interesting, as I just watched The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe for the second time today. Nice ideas, I'd definitely play a game with this setting.
  4. Sure... you can send the randomized ones with lamvdas to their heroic deaths, if you want - while the guys with morae stand around and do nothing. Though assuming the Spartans are expensive and take long to train, I think you'll be wanting every single one of them! Also, does the Leonidas unit have a shield? If so, I'll make the red/white/black solar design for him.
  5. That sounds good. What do you think, Leonidas? I was considering having all 5 randomized in multiplayer or single player, too.
  6. But the lamvtha is inaccurate. You might as well give them a Corinthian pegasus blazon. And those aren't just any shield designs, they were especially worn by the Spartans from about 550-450... sorry buddy. If you give the Spartan hoplites a /\, then give the Athenian units an A, the Macedonians an M, the Corinthians a K, the Thebans Herakles clubs, etc... they're all from late 5th century onwards. I don't understand why we can't work around the lamvtha when every other unit is going to be historically accurate. Leave inaccurate Spartan models to developers by Creative, Ensemble, Midway, Stainless Steel (RIP) etc... Edit: Just a thought, what would you be more frightened of - a boar, scorpion or minotaur... or a letter? I don't see what the big fuss about /\ is. Because it's just a letter!
  7. Hey thanks! Do you think they'll make it into the final version? If you want me to do four other designs for more variety, then I'm happy to do so.
  8. I made these four shield designs for the Spartan Homoioi, editing this lamvtha design , to make it more accurate for the historical period. I know they don't look nearly as good as the ones in game right now (also I apologize to the person who made the lamvtha shield in advance in case you didn't want anyone to edit it), but I'd really like to see the accurate mora designs in the game, not the Hollywood lamvtha. Do what you want with them... ignore them, edit them, resize them, use them - whatever.
  9. I want to get into the gaming industry, like a lot of you guys. I really want to do animation in one form or another. I briefly worked in a claymation studio last year, that was very fun and I might get back to it.
  10. You like the mountainous levels because of Thermopylae and Greece as well as I do, right?
  11. If I can somehow learn how to do textures, then I'd definitely help.
  12. I'm fond of half land, half water maps, sometimes even island ones since the other player usually isn't up to building a water base. But my very favourite map in any RTS was Alfheim in AOM. I loved all the mountains and choke points. I hope there are a few mountainous maps planned for 0 AD.
  13. I love Thermopylae, but it's glory should still be disputed. Here were 5200 men and their slaves who were trained to actually fight in melee with courageous strength, Spartan or not - the phalanx was the perfect weapon in a choke point against a couple hundred thousand poorly equipped soldiers. It doesn't take a genius to figure that out. Still, their heroism is clear and is indeed the definitive last stand story, I think a little moreso than the Alamo. But Rorke's Drift - darn, the British had even succumbed to a horrible defeat that same day, and still 139 odd soldiers held off an army that completely dwarfed their size - likely moreso than the Persians to the Greeks! Two other battles I would like to mention, though not definitive as last stands, are the Kokoda Track Campaign(2000 teenagers or thereabouts defeated over 10,000) and Long Tan (108 defeated 2500), both Australian victories against huge odds in WW2 and Vietnam, respectively.
  14. Good to hear it. I was worried about seeing so much authenticity into the buildings and units, but then hearing the units themselves speak modern English and kind of bringing the history down.
  15. How will the units sound? I mean, can we expect the Hellenes to speak a Classical Greek sentence, and Romans to speak Latin when we click on them (similar to AOE games), or will they just speak English like in Empire Earth and RaF? I guess it depends on how well known the old languages are, but I was expecting the Celts to speak Manx, since some of their units are Manx Gaelic words. I have no idea about Carthage and Iberia.
  16. I thought I replied to this thread, but it seems like I didn't. Hellenes all the way! Then Iberians and Persians.
  17. Yeah, I actually realized that after posting. Ah, I'm too impulsive.
  18. Hey Leonidas, where did you get the picture in your avatar? I'd like to see a larger version of it.
  19. Those aren't totally accurate, either. Although I admitt I currently use his bronze model.
  20. Those are nice, but most of them are very inaccurate. A mod called Hegemonia City States based entirely on 5th century Greece had some very nice and accurate models, but apparently these models have been scrapped since their designers left the project. I talked to one of them (Lupus) and he said that the new ones sadly aren't accurate at all. You can see some of his work before they made the changes here. Those homoioi models are terrific.
  21. Glad you like the remake. You can thank Lord Iarune for encouraging the Indians to be a civilization.
  22. That was by far the best part of the movie - in fact, after that scene I just got completely sick of the fake Irish accents, underlying homosexuality and Eastern erotic dancers that I longed for the entire film to have been one big battle. Definitely the most accurate depiction of Macedonian warfare I've seen in a film, in fact, it's much more accurate than a lot of documentaries I've seen about Alexander, too - which says a lot.
  23. Forgive me, I've been sneaky... I checked Brendan's site and saw the units for myself. Let me just say that the Iberian hero literally blew me away... that is incredible! I'd definitely like to hear a few tips and hints on CG colouring from the man.
