  1. I don't have insights into this dispute, so I really don't want to judge anyone or anything here and I obviously can't provide a solution. @Norse_Harold I know that it has already been said, but I believe your work is very valuable and underappreciated. I would likely have never gotten into programming to contribute to this project if it wasn't for you - that's not an overstatement. 0 A.D. needs more people like you. Thank you. Let's all not loose sight of the essential. 0 A.D. is a great project, a great game, and deserves a great community. And I mean that without ambiguity. I genuinely hope this gets sorted out.

  2. It would be very interesting to have a fertility mechanic. It would be nice to have terrain bonuses for crops. And perhaps some negative bonus to certain soils. It's just a very rarely discussed idea. It is a very widespread mechanic in city builders.

  3. I'm making this post to discuss potential changes to the subdivisions of the game options. The 'Game Session' category is currently full, but upcoming developments will raise the need of adding new entries to it - which the GUI page doesn't have any more space for at the moment. The simplest solution would be to split up the category. The relevant options are currently arranged like this: My best idea is to divide it into 'Gameplay', 'Display', and 'Chat & Notifications' and also move some stuff out of 'General'. Like this: Any opinions on this matter?

  5. @Norse_Harold: Thank you very much for your contributions to 0 A.D. and its community. I, and I'm sure all other members of Wildfire Games as well, are very grateful for your contributions so far and hope you'll come back after your break to continue to contribute. As @Norse_Harold already mentioned, we'll try out some new approaches to moderation going forward with the goal to make the community an even safer and more welcoming place. If you encounter inappropriate behavior by other community members, which violates the Terms of Use, please let me know. We're also looking for additional volunteers, who'd be willing to help out with moderation. If you're interested in contributing to that, please send me a private message.

  6. But you support the idea. This opens the possibility that they will consider it, especially if it is not difficult to implement.

  7. I was thinking of making it with several designs. There are several references to this in the topic. But since no one wanted to support the idea, it did not continue. Especially since I'm not a programmer.

  9. Two days have passed - time to write how the update went. In short: Everything went very smoothly and without any comments. First, the nproc command - I got the number "20" I did the following: cd trunk/ svn update cd libraries/ ./build-source-libs.sh -j20 cd ../build/workspaces/ ./update-workspaces.sh -j20 cd gcc make -j20 cd ../../.. cd binaries/system/ ./test ./pyrogenesis The 'svn update' command printed at the end: "At revision 48." - two numbers more. The './build-source-libs.sh' command did not print any number, only the information that: "cxxtest-4.4, FCollada, NVTT, Spidermonkey is already up to date." After starting the game, in the lower left corner there is an inscription: "Oct 6 2024, (main, f9ad0)" Thanks again for your help. Regards.

  10. I made a building for that matter. It is a kind of cistern. I already forgot the name hahaha. I proposed this mechanics many times and they thought I was crazy. I suggested it to Wow and he either didn't understand or wasn't interested. Cisterns don't need rivers, it's supposed to be like a well. You collect water inside the soil... underground. It's like building a well and immediately you have enough to survive. People in deserts and mountains create wells for irrigation. In 0AD you would already have the bonus by having that building.

  11. We could try to put 0 AD in some not very well known indie store. Like https://itch.io/ itch.io is a simple way to find and share indie games online for free. There are a lot of niche games out there and a lot of fan games. About itch.io itch.io is an open marketplace for independent digital creators with a focus on independent video games. It’s a platform that enables anyone to sell the content they've created. As a seller you’re in charge of how it’s done: you set the price, you run sales, and you design your pages. It’s never necessary to get votes, likes, or follows to get your content approved, and you can make changes to how you distribute your work as frequently as you like. itch.io is also a collection of some of the most unique, interesting, and independent creations you'll find on the web. We're not your typical digital storefront, with a wide range of both paid and free content, we encourage you to look around and see what you find.

  13. I can't really say much about moderation, the people, the processes, the policies. But it seems obvious to me that policies shouldn't be decided by a single person. And it also seems obvious to me that the single address for a complaint about a person mustn't be that person themself. Regarding leadership and inaction: maybe it's time that the people who can decide something decide something. It's been over a year now that @Stan` stepped down as project lead? As far as I'm aware there hasn't been a word since regarding leadership or the general structure of the project. Let's hope we can sort out this situation and the way forward amicably.

  14. My first ideas are: Soil ( rich soil or fertile soil) should be generated on random maps as a resource. There is already an RTS(game) that has this mechanic: Fertile Crescent. But I never played this game. Feature Establish your village near fertile lands and balance your food surplus against the size of your civilian and military might as you build and expand. Food plays a crucial role beyond just feeding your troops; it determines the growth rate of your population and the speed at which you accumulate Knowledge Points. Keeping your village well-fed ensures prosperous expansion, while compromised farms can cripple even the strongest economies. Considering technological limitations and advancements of the era, you'll need to carefully manage your hard-earned Knowledge Points. Explore Village Improvements to quickly counter your opponent's strategy or to fortify your position for the long game. In the images you can see that the terrain influences the farms. The image shows the value of the land for farms.
