  1. The Council is both happy and proud to announce a brand new release!!! I think this is what you all have been waiting for! Millennium A.D.'s first release ever! What is it? Millennium A.D. is a total conversion mod for 0 A.D. focusing on the Middle Ages. It is divided in two parts, this first one is focusing on the first half of the Middle Ages; the timeframe of Charlemagne and the Viking Age. The name of this release is Ashmen. This is the word Norsemen were called after by the Germans because they used Ash wood for their boats. What is new? This is our first release so in a way everything is new, but compared to last development the unit textures from the Norse faction are completely reworked (by wackyserious). Also we have better and more house variants. On top of that we have a new storehouse building. (all modeled by Stanislas69) I tried to capture everything in one high-res screeenshot: In the background on the right you see the new storehouse building. The two small buildings are two of the house variants. The units that you see are (nearly) all the new unit textures. Next to that we also added a Norse hero: Eiríkr hinn rauði (better known as Erik the Red): Who are we? The Council of Modders was formed up of two small modding teams and a few newcomers: Aristeia (about the bronze age) and Millennium A.D. (about medieval times) CoM aims to create a umbrella for all wannabee modders and help everyone needed and of course create their own projects. How to:1. Unzip the download but leave the inner archive intact. 2. Place the unzipped folder into <installationdirectory>/binaries/data/mods. You'll see another folder there called 'public'. 3. Launch the game and enable the mod in Options>Mod Selection. Press 'Start Mods'. 4. Enjoy the mod! Download: millenniumad.zip mirror: http://www.moddb.com/mods/millennium-ad/downloads/ashmen-19 In the last few months some members retired leaving us shorthanded. We are currently especially in the need of artists. So if you're a talented artist with a passion for history and you would like to help us out, please contact us using a PM or (preferably) in this thread: http://wildfiregames...showtopic=18412 Thanks in advance! Our thanks go to everyone that helped us to achieve this mod through contributing, play testing or in another way! If you have tips / suggestions, feel free to let us know. Also if you find bugs, let them know too. Support 0 A.D. if you like us: http://play0ad.com/community/donate/ The main menu background is made by Alexlinde from Deviantart. You can find him here: Alexlinde.deviantart.com The soundtracks are created by Antti Martikainen. You can find more of his work here: Anttimartikainen.bandcamp.com and Youtube.com

  2. I'm not sure how much interest there is in this but I thought it proper to credit my inspiration, this forum. There was an older thread where someone posted concept disc logo art, I took it a step further and actually created and printed my own using their template. Here is the end result:

  5. Saying some things I think would be cool or need to be fixed. Day-Night cycles instead of day and night maps. Fix rams. rams are too op. break things way too fast. makes walls only helpful in early-mid game.

  6. In order to create diverse roster, the Daphne Parade and 2 large battles fought near height of the empire's power against 2 of its biggest foes are used as source. Why would you not think this is a good era to depict? We know from sources that the Selucid use: Dahae/Scythian cavalry archrsMedian and Persian light and medium cavalryGalatian mercenaries (probably infantry and cavalry, sword and spear)Thracian mercenaries (rhomphaiaphoroi and skirmisher)Arabic mercenaries (skirmishers)Greek mercenaries (thureophoroi mostly, maybe some traditional hoplite style, and Cretan archers)Greek Citizen/Militia/Colonist from Syrian tetrapolis, armed in thureophoroi/medium spear - "Power of Cities"Bronze Shield pikes, Silver shield Pikes, and Romanize sword recruit from the "flower" of the Greek colonistsElephants from IndiaHeavy cavalry, Hetairoi, Agema, and Cataphracts recruited from Greek colonies, but mostly from Syrian, Persian, and Median nativesAsking if you are crazy was joke.

  8. Well, according to the Daphne Parade and other sources, the Seleucid Army was, during the time of the Empire's war with the Egyptians, called "The people's army" because it was based almost entirely of milita thureosphoros, which must have had not just Greek but native troops as well. As for native archers, the Seleucids logically HAD to use native archers, because Greeks (aside from Cretans) aren't known for their archery. Most of the light skirmishers were native, because a lot of greeks saw skirmishing as a job for the "lower peoples" while they fought as thureosphoros, thorakites, cav, and obviously, the Syntagma/Phalanx. So while I do agree with you, native melee troops is a bit unreasonable, the roster I am working on (slowly, I grant you that) uses native troops for almost only the skirmishing/archer arm, with the exceptions being Dahae Horse archers and Median cav, but at least the Median cav, and the native peltast have Greek/heavier counterparts in the roster for Greek purists like me.

  10. Note: This is obviously not for ROTE, but I will put it here for completeness's sake. TANG DYNASTY Armoured cavalry. The armour plates are based on actual excavated examples, but the overall look is reconstructed from visual-only sources (paintings, murals, figurines, lokapala, etc) This is also the best Tang-period armour reconstruction I ever seen (not that there are many - to my knowledge only two Tang armour reconstruction had been attempted, and the other one sucked).

  11. Emperor Wu of Han (Han Wu Di) period heavily armoured trooper. Probably elite or high-ranking. He is apparently an archer, see the bracer on his left arm. (However most professional Chinese troops would be at least accustomed to archery). Also, this (and the armor above) is one example of the so-called Tong Xiu Kai (筒袖鎧), lamellar armour that has complete tube-like sleeve so to not expose the vulnerable armpit (a common weakness found on almost all lamellar armour).

  12. Update: Apparently Hu Jing Ming created more clothing reconstruction recently (recent as in October 2015). This time not limited to the Han. These are also reconstruction by Cang Ning Jun. Late Western Han Armored Officer. Two-handed Sword (Jian, since he's an officer). Hell yeah. Also, beards!

  13. Can't believe I missed this one: Eastern Han farmer clothing (male), reconstructed by the same person. I think Western Han period wouldn't differ too much (But I cannot be 100% certain). EDIT: Cross-checked with Western Han period mural:
