Add to the list! I'll keep adding to the list. I'll alphabetize once we get some input. ARMS ARMOUR -- Chieres/Manica: Segmented armour for the arms of a soldier (usually for a cavalryman) . Notably used by the Romans during the Dacian Wars and by Eastern "cataphract" style cavalry. -- Chamfron: Armour for the face of a horse. -- Peytral: Skirt armour for the chest of a horse. -- Is there a separate name for the horse chest armour that is one solid piece rather than a skirt? -- Parameridia: A piece of armour for a cavalryman's legs, usually scale mail or lamellar mail over layers of leather. They often look like small "wings" on the side of a horse. -- Crupper: Armour for the hind-quarters of a horse. -- Gorget: A single piece of armour protecting the upper chest/neck area of a soldier. -- What is the scale neck collar for the Persians called? -- Tube & Yoke Corselet: Synonymous with the apocryphal "linothorax." -- Thorax: Body armour. Cuirass. -- Hemithorax: Half-cuirass or breastplate. Presumably referring to metal armour only covering the chest or front. -- Greaves: Shin guards. Can "snap" over the shin and be held in place by the calves, or fastened with straps. -- Lorica Segmentata: A modern term for the segmented Roman armour of the Trajan era. -- Lorica Hamata/Hauberk: Chain mail body armour. -- Lorica Squamata: Roman/Latin term for scale mail body armour. -- Pteruges: Groin straps; overlapping strips of linen or leather that protect the lower part of the body, sometimes a far down as the knees.1 point

From an old viking saga: "The stories also describe instances in which a sword blade bent during a fight. In chapter 49 of Laxdæla saga, Kjartan was ambushed as he rode up the valley past the small hill in the foreground of the photo. He was not carrying his usual sword, a gift from the king, but rather a lesser sword. Several times during the battle, Kjartan had to straighten his bent blade by standing on it." http://www.hurstwic.com/history/articles/manufacturing/text/viking_sword.htm The Viking swords suffered heavily from fighting especially edge damage, becoming less sharp and some times broke in two.1 point

Hi, in a multiplayer game when a player leaves there's a message that quickly says so. However, in the heat of the fight, it can happen that we miss it (or at least I miss it sometimes, ending up playing alone :-) )without noticing it). Or if I'm playing against a quiet player it can happen that I have to ask him if he's still alive... Except asking him directly there are two ways to know his status : 1) The player name is displayed as '[OFFLINE] playername', just select a building/unit. 2) in the diplomacy window his name is replaced by "Player X" Both solutions are not really obvious, or at least not at first glance. If the player is still in shadow you cannot select any building/unit. And if you happen to meet some of its soldiers I'm not sure that the first thing you do is to check his status (I guess you kick him first and ask question later). Going to the diplomacy window is not really obvious. And for some people we have no name, just a color, so Green player being green "Player 1" or green "John Doe" doesn't tell a lot about his status. So the question is : how to enhance the status notice of the leaving players ? Should his color be changed to some "neutral" color ? And if he can connects back he can gets his color back. Should we have some kind of permanent notice on the GUI ?1 point

What about Units gets attacked, building garison the number of units... And starts firing.1 point

I like the leather grip, except the color, that should be a black variant: (Sorry, the photo from me is a bit blueish.) The blade is a bit too rusty. And has a ugly black line (guess from the UV lines too). So the blade has to look a little more like this: (My own little tiny blade) From the reference: "The tip of the blade came to a point, which, rather than being acute, was usually somewhat rounded, as is seen on the seven historical Viking-age sword blades shown to the right." Could you make the tip less sharp? SIDE QUESTION: Do we use specular/normal maps for weapons, unlike the main game (vanilla does only with shields and helmets, no weapons)??? You're specular map looks a bit strange to me. (Ah, that is due your transparency, it is common to leave no transparent parts in both your specular and normal map) But I see you don't use specular for the leather. Regarding to the rest of the model: looks good, but I'll have to look into the other swords to resize it properly and make it attachable. A full render with one sword, as it is right now: Thanks. I'll see what I can do. The tip was rounder the line you drawn does exist though, i tweaked it a lot so might be the reason why. Oh it's not leather except the lace... but I think I can desaturate it, I hope I kept the XCF I didn't read much about viking swords (Though I'm a huge fan of swords) but from what I recall their swords bent easily. I can make a rusty and not rusty version so that you can have different units applying different kind of treatment to their weapons if you want. Specular was hum... really fastly done. I need to get tips to adapt it the best for all situations, for I sometimes do crap with it. I'd rather you use speculars, If you look at the current game swords, they are flat and not really realistic.1 point

The problem many source about some información related with Baal... Many of the se tryign to have religius or racist point of view. http://aryannations88.blogspot.com/2011/01/judaism-is-baal-worship.html But is not single one to show this symbol. ---------if Greek gets a great influence over Canaanites and Phoenicians and then over Carthaginians.------ The Greeks reimagined the Phoenician god Melqart as Melikertês (Melicertes) and made him the son of Athamas and Ino. He drowned but was transfigured as the marine deity Palaemon, while his mother became Leucothea. (cf Ino.) At Corinth, he was so closely connected with the cult of Poseidon that the Isthmian Games, originally instituted in Poseidon's honor, came to be looked upon as the funeral games of Melicertes.1 point

Some constructive (hopefully) feedback from my side. You forgot to remove the UV's from the normal map, result is some ugly lines. Maybe a good idea would be to have one or a few Germanic tribes as mini-factions for Empires Ascendant, and then use those as a base for a full-fledged Germanic faction in the expansion?1 point

This may be usefull. I also attached picture of German warrior 1 st century BC-1st century AD [Osprey] 1 is just noted as "The rider" looks like Suebic also. 2 and 3 are of the Suebic tribes. The shield is noted as Celtic style. The hair is dressed in the style of a "Suebian knot". [source: Osprey military history book]1 point

The Germans would definitely get brand new art, including buildings, props, shields, textures, etc. I was thinking their buildings would be mostly wooden, including their Fortress, which would be the least expensive (maybe 500 Wood) and weakest fortress in the game. Wooden walls, bigger than palisades, but not as strong as stone walls.1 point

The Germanic tribes lived during empires assedant, and i have some ideas for it! * Rebuild the civic centre,, 6 celt longhouses wit h walls shrinking it, with a result as this * New Temple: /props/structures/celts/crannog_wall.xml /props/structures/celts/megalith_b_2.xml Mantain the rest of Biuldings, add a Kennel, use as fortress the celtic tavern, but with more size "22px" in this fortess train: * Naked Fanatics * Flame Javalinists "Javelinists thah launches flaming javelins" * Rams * Heores "Aminius, Alaricus, Odoacrus" the celtic building used for this factios are: * Celt Barracks * Celt Blacksmits * Celt Hut as germanic house * Celtc Market * Celtic Soldiers "less campion units" * Celt Dock and Ships + Viking Boat * Brit Kennel * Walls and Towers1 point

Are you using our SVN repository or a release version of the game? If you're using a release, the original COLLADA (.dae) files will be pre-converted to PSA, but you can get the originals in most cases from SVN. For the others, some of the source .max files are in our art SVN, we might be able to get those if you need them. Which animation(s) were you looking for in particular? Also keep in mind the animation needs a rig/skeleton to be useful for anything, the PSA alone wouldn't help you much (the particulars of what it is can be found here).1 point

Greek ARMS -Dory Spear 6-10 ft in length, primary weapon of the Hoplite. Unique features of the Dory are that the shaft narrows towards the head and it has a pointed counterbalance(sarouter). Shifting the center balance to the rear(2 ft from the end?) allows the spear to have more 'reach' when used overarm. -Sarissa Heavy pike 13-21 ft in length wielded with both hands. Weapon of the famed Macedonian Phalanx. -Xiphos Generic term for the 'leaf bladed' short sword. Double edged with a thrusting point, the blade is narrower at the hilt and widens towards point giving it the leaf shape. Capable of thrusting but the point heavy design favors cutting. -Kopis Generic term for the single edged sword with a forward curving blade, similar to the Iberian Falcata and the Nepalese/Gurhka Kukri. Most have a tip capable of thrusting but is obviously designed for powerful cuts. Hilt is typically C shaped with the wings most likely to prevent slipping and provide protection for the hand. Xyston, Kontos Long(-13'/4m) cavalry lance most likely wielded with both hands. The Xyston was used by the elite Macedonian heavy cavalry. The Kontos(Greek for oar or barge pole) originated in Persia. Keep in mind cavalry of this era didn't have stirrups so they were used as thrusting weapons rather than couched like a medieval knight. ARMOR -Aspis Generic term for the large, heavy round shield used by the Hoplite. The shield is primarily constructed of wood with a dished or bowl shape. Usually has bronze reinforcement of the rim or the entire shield face may be sheathed in bronze. Typically richly decorated. Note: I've also seen the term hoplon used for the shield with others saying the term hoplon is a more general term with meaning closer to 'arms and armor of the hoplite'. I'll leave that one for the experts. -Pelta, Pelte, Peltarion Small crescent shaped wicker shield used by skirmishers and light infantry. Described by Aristotle as being covered with sheep or goats skin. Term was later also applied to the smaller round shield carried by Macedonian phalangites. -Thureos Oval shaped shield of leather covered wood with boss and raised spine. Greek version of the Celtic(Galatian) shield. Name means 'door stop' a reference to the oval shaped stones Greeks use to prop their doors open.1 point

Are you planning to break this down by century or period(i.e. Republican, Imperial, etc...) as well? Also pet peeve on the terminology. Mail is simply mail, not chainmail and you don't add mail to end of everything i.e. scalemail. Sorry:) ARMOR -Subarmalis Worn by Romans under armor to prevent chafing, damage to clothing and possibly reduce the impact of blows. Like many things it's rather vague as to what it exactly was. One fourth century AD reference refers to a padded garment with a leather covering(or separate leather garment worn over it) for waterproofing. -Lorica Plumata Modern term(?) for an expensive armor worn for high ranking officers. Basically a mail shirt with small scales attached. The scales have a raised central ridge and thus resemble bird feathers. Beside looking good the ridge makes the scales stronger. -Lamellar Similar to scale, armor composed of rectangular plates which are laced together so each plate is connected to the plates above, below and on each side. Used some by the Romans in the later periods and widely used across Asia. -Caparison Cloth or felt covering for horses body. Mostly ornamental but depending on type of material used could provide some protection.1 point
