Hi, i mentioned this before few months ago: I suggest to update the Download instructions for Linux users: https://gitea.wildfiregames.com/0ad/0ad/wiki/GettingTheUnixRelease The official download page also directs to this info page. For example, the whole debian section is very much outdated, since bullseye is not the latest stable version anymore and also there is no alpha 27 in any of the aptitude repos (as far as i didnt find it in any of them, pls correct me if false). This is quite misleading and maybe makes some people install a26... From all the other package managers i think only snap has a27, but i havent tried all of them, so could be incorrect. Thank you, Meister! P.S. it would be great having a .deb file download too!

No, you don't have to buy anything. You can continue to run it on localhost and create a self-signed TLS certificate as well. See the instructions at https://github.com/0ad/lobby-bots?tab=readme-ov-file#choice-b-self-signed-certificate.

Sorry i didn't understand for rome. -- It devalues action, risk-taking, and combat by creating a defensive bias in some players. Encouraging them to do nothing with their units. Creating micro with barracks that have a 10-unit capacity is boring. Ships were changed for that reason. To me, a unit that levels up outside of combat hasn’t proven anything. The other trained units have already received military training; otherwise, they wouldn’t be recruited. Persians and allies have an advantage because their barracks are cheaper, so more people can level up. To avoid ruining RTS gameplay, passive experience should be like this: • It is slow, very restricted (e.g., limited to a % of the maximum rank). Currently, I personally have no idea how long it takes for a unit to level up. I do it randomly. • It has a clear cost (e.g., each minute of training costs resources). That’s indirectly the case due to the lack of resource gathering—except for mercenaries? Might as well gather resources, it seems way more useful. It’s borderline slightly useful for cavalry. • It depends on active investment (e.g., having an officer or a special technology). Right now it’s passive and only in certain buildings. I find this feature has zero hype. Some random ideas if you dont' want can't pick ressource : -Troop Donation to Allies -Units that remain stationary for an extended period gain a 50% boost to their sight -Create an active defense investment system instead of just waiting. *Assignment via a technology unlocked at the fort that enables automatic repair of defensive buildings (walls, towers, forts). This unlocks an “auto-repair” button. When a unit is inactive and within 100 meters of a defensive building, it will autonomously repair it. *Trap placement: traps that deal damage or slow enemies. *Assign units to defensive buildings, which increases their armor/resistance making them better defended and more durable.

To start the bots I used command: 'python -m xpartamupp.bot_start -l admin -p logic -n HostTracker -r arena -m localhost --no-verify' , I've also tried this one: 'python -m xpartamupp.bot_start' but both of the commands give the error: '2025-07-24T12:46:42+0200 ERROR No appropriate login method.' '2025-07-24T12:46:42+0200 ERROR Can't log in. Aborting reconnects.' Does this mean I'll have to buy a domain first ( because now I'm using localhost ) create a TLS encryption and try it again?- 9 replies

This map is designed to be played in singleplayer/2 players. VI century b.C., Sparta and Argo, are competing for control of the Peloponnese. The other faction starts as neutral, but you can sign alliances by paying the right amount. The map is designed to enjoy hoplite battles and strategy, putting a side the building part of the game (the map is quite full of cities/minor settlement: is there Corinth, Olympia, Messene, Mantinea and various villages). I still have to manage some issues with uploading the map here, but for now I want some comments on it. Let me know.

In general the instructions in https://github.com/0ad/lobby-bots should still work, although I haven't set up a multiplayer lobby using them in quite a while as using https://github.com/0ad/lobby-infrastructure/ is just much more comfortable. Regarding your specific error, I can only guess based on the limited information you provided, but somebody had the same problem in the past using SleekXMPP (the predecessor of Slixmpp currently used by the bots): https://github.com/fritzy/SleekXMPP/issues/250. So my guess is you try to connect without TLS encryption, which Slixmpp doesn't allow with PLAIN authentication out of the box.

Now for something a bit different. The games here will be played in A23b, with the intention of highlighting AI differences between this and later versions. I struggled a bit in my first recorded game, mainly because of a lack of worker counters and Call to Arms. The AI is much more difficult, though. It simply doesn't stop making units. It's not free, it costs resources to upgrade Elite Hastatus or Triarius to a Centurion. And, you have to have an elite unit to begin with. Again, it's not free. It takes time to get a promotion inside a Barracks. During this time, the unit wasn't working. It's just another feature that you don't have to use if you don't want to. Plenty of them in the base game already.

Correct. It's basic rank spearman, just a different model. Spears are slower than javs, though. Marian Reforms is powerful, but it's mostly a flavor tech. You can build multiple Army camps near your opponent's territory and train swordsmen that are almost as good as Marian Legionaries.

the feature of experience is pretty annoying, it ok when it a little feature but if it become everywhere and everytime is annoying. Now Rome can have free champ for example if you do annoying micro with barack you have free mercenary unit so? idle unit = bad , don't make a prize for bad action

I find that having to go through special buildings to create heroes is quite annoying in most cases. It unnecessarily adds weight to the gameplay. That said, for some civilizations like Sparta, it makes sense and I find it cool — it reinforces the roleplay aspect and cultural identity. However, this system should definitely not be generalized to all civilizations. Especially since the construction costs are not the same between civilizations, which makes everything even less balanced. Persians also handle it well with the little resource gadget. With Sparta, it feels like unlocking the grail with some super bonuses… although that should be put into perspective in the end. The Fortress is an average solution. But at least it's “okay”; however, it's worth noting that it’s a slight indirect nerf to the offensive play of those civilizations. Or we could imagine choosing the hero at Age 3 and he pops up for free once the Age is researched? If you want to make a second one when the first is dead (everyone Fortress and CC for sélucide op?) -
after the reform they still have one unit with normal cost and normal rate of resource (the spear i guess)

The great Celtic towers served as accommodation for kings, for example. -
So you can login with other users, e.g. when using 0ad, but login fails for the lobby bots?
