Wijitmaker
R@W was a total conversion mod for the Meso-Amercian civs that came with "The Conquerors" expansion pack for AoK. The Aztecs were changed to the Romans and the Mayans were changed to the Greeks. The best look of the mod can be found here:http://www.wildfiregames.com/raw/

Wijitmaker
No, they share the Meso-American civ set art with the Romans. They have a unique unit of a "bowyer" (Some Mayan dude - I forget the name) instead of the Roman "legionaire" (Jaguar Warrior). Both have the "auxilla" (Eagle Warrior). Titus Ultor
The Greeks were kind of a "well, we have to do two civilzations for this tileset" thing, right?

Wijitmaker
The Greeks were kind of a "well, we have to do two civilzations for this tileset" thing, right?Exactly It was kind of like... well we have another civ to use and they need to look like the Romans. Sorta the crumb of the cookie. Thanks History guy. Looking at it now... its not as appealing as it was to my eye nearly 4 years ago, but it was pretty good work for our first project. Centurion_13
Yeah I used to have R@W installed, I loved it. I got it off a magazine. But then The mod All roads lead to rome came along and I couldnd decide which one to use.
Fire Giant
Well, many people on the 0 A.D. team are only here because of RaW - including myself. I think I would never have found out about WFG (still WFS back then) if I didn't search for Roman modpacks for AoK (someone told me there were some), and somehow stumbled into the link to the WFG forums on the AoKH Blacksmith page... Argalius
At the time I played AoK I didn't even know what mods where And I would sometimes make a scenario, which sucked of course. Now I think of it, did I even have internet then ...
Dnas
I don't think I had internet when I used AOK. Well, I'm certain we had it, but I was never on the internet.lol... I remember trying to make scenarios. Was kind of difficult because I had no idea what triggers were or anything.Definitely need to get AOK re-installed sometime to play that mod. Argalius
I never knew what triggers were and how to use them. Most of the time I just placed a huge army and started fighting
I_Would_Say
Question: AOK's time period is after the fall of Rome, so why make Roman and Greek civs? Or did you make the "fallen Rome"?
Wijitmaker
Well, because the movie "Gladiator" came out and people loved playing the romans in AoE. IMHO Having the Romans in the game (fighting Goths, Vikings, Huns, Celts) is less absurd then having the Meso-Americans (Mayans and Aztecs) that could only historically be paired with the Spanish. I_Would_Say
Ah. I see. It makes sense. I guess the only advantage of the Meso civs are the historically accurate time periods, but that isn't too important (well, actually I think it is quite important, but I think basically everyone except me cares about the playability and balance - not on the historical accuracy ) I must admit I do like Romans far more than American civs.
Paal_101
Besides the Aztecs weren't around during the European Dark Ages LOL

Centurion_13
Me and the history freaks. And I thought the aztecs were there they just hadnt been discovered by europeans yet. SImilar to the australiann aboriginals. They've been here for 60 000 years or so but europeans didnt know of them till they came over here in the 16 and 17 hundreds. I_Would_Say
Yeah the Aztecs were around, but they were "discovered" in 1519. AOK has some Battle of the Conqueror scenarios that go past that.PS. Europeans didn't know about them until the 16th century, not 17th or 18th
Centurion_13
Well they were just guesses. Since aus was first colonised by the english in 1788 I figured 88 years is enough time for them.
Wijitmaker
And I thought the aztecs were there they just hadnt been discovered by europeans yet.Actually, you guys should check out Joshua's latest article. Argalius
But let's don't forget that Australia was discovered by a Dutchman! Abel Tasman, Tasmania is called after him But he discovered the wrong side of Australia, he only saw desert and wasn't interested and later Cook, if I'm right, found the 'good' side of Australia and it became English ... So Cent you could have talked Dutch now
Paal_101
@ Argal - *smack* Plus the Aztec people originated in the 1300s, at least as we know them today: http://home.freeuk.net/elloughton13/history1.htmThey came from northwest Mexico, but their familiar culture developed during the European Middles Ages. Imagine, legionaries in America
