I like to play with the Ptolemies. What is the most effective means of eliminating enemy war elephants?

Javelin mercenary and camel archers are also effective. Use pikemen to stop the elephant and use the ranged units to shoot it down.

Pikeman line formation in front of eles (but between eles/skrimishers) then normal attack. Make sure skrimisher in rear micro the eles first thing.  Don't let eles got on skrimishers as they are 1-2 shots depending on upgrades.  Eles that appear to get unblocked from Pike should be targeted first.  Also, eles are really effective at pike, therefore, as mentioned previously, make sure skrimishers prioritize eles.

Hit-and-run-tactics are helpful

Slingers might be preferable because they contribute so well to your economy

Thank you for the tips. I will test it. I need to get better acquainted with the control/grouping of troops in battle.
