These shields were made of several layers of bull hide stitched to a wicker and wooden structure, sometime reinforced with leather rim and metal shield boss. Some shields might also be covered with thin bronze sheet.Most Mycenaean shields are body-length, a feature that offered a much-needed protection to their warriors, who often wore next to nothing in battle (Some Mycenaean warriors with higher social status does come with full set of armor though).
