LTGoldman
I have recently installed the latest Alpha 0AD (Alpha 9) and it strikes me when building walls as being a very slow and tricky thing to do. It would be nice to beable to drag a path for wall creation and then your builders will get on with it and this path of creation adjusts with the contours of the map. Currently you can only build walls bit by bit by holding the shift key down. Could this be implemented? (Unless I am doing something wrong)?LTGoldman
vts
Hi LTGoldman,This is indeed a feature that has long gone unimplemented. We're working on an implementation right now though, so it shouldn't be very much longer until we have a usable wall building system in place
LTGoldman
Cool; thanks for the reply. When this game is complete I think it will be very good.Hi LTGoldman,This is indeed a feature that has long gone unimplemented. Arthur_D
I wonder what part of "alpha" people don't understand...
Android_
Good to see how the game's coming along. Speaking of walls, I think this would be suitable for 0AD as well!
MishFTW
Good to see how the game's coming along. Speaking of walls, I think this would be suitable for 0AD as well!Perhpas have a research item in the tree? Michael, ya hear me? Something like a "civil engineer" or quality control tech that could commit the resources and money to repairing each wall segment? And when under attack, that unit would be the first to go? Mythos_Ruler
I think units just automatically moving from wall segment to wall segment to repair them should, well, be automatic. Doesn't seem to me to be something that should be unlocked. Should just happen from the beginning of the game.

Mythos_Ruler
the lasts SVN are great, i would like the game have a wall system like Age of Empires series mythology or AOE Online, little segment walls a basic square, but the game every day be big. soon i upload a video. We're trying for something like this:
Afronaut
From what phase will walls be available from when phases are implemented?
Mythos_Ruler
From what phase will walls be available from when phases are implemented?I'm thinking palisade walls from the beginning (Phase 1 - Village), and stone walls from Phase 2 - Town. Almin
We're trying for something like this: Hell, this is nearly impossible to implement for the AI, isn't it? It's still great! I would love to see the walling-system from AoE3 in 0 A.D.edit: I yust realized that you also need the capibility to build walls with a dynamic length. Is that possible in 0 A.D.? oshron
aah, so the wall system IS going to be like the one in AOM. good; i like that one exponentially more than the wall systems in AOE1, AOK, and Empire Earth. its annoying having to build each segment of wall individually

I would love to see the walling-system from AoE3 in 0 A.D.Funny you should say that - AoE3's developers tried to make its AI build walls, but didn't make it work flawlessly so it was removed. Mythos_Ruler
If we can't get the AI to build walls dynamically, then we can "cheat" by having the AI build randomized pre-designed circuits of walls.
Mythos_Ruler
not bad, that stop the guys rushing to qbot in a beginning of the game XDYep. And I'd like walls to be able to cut through trees. This would help remove a class of obstacles for the AI to build their walls.
Mythos_Ruler
but ai can simulate construct walls and create a perimeter around his borders. It just depends on what will be possible for the AI and what won't be possible.
AuroN2
Personally i would preffer something close to aoe2's wall system. (less tower, more wall!)Or even rise of the middle kingdoms one, (build wall, and build gates on walls, and build towers onto walls.)Maybe i need to provide video of latter idea? Veridagorin
build wall, and build gates on walls, and build towers onto walls like Empire Earth 2, i agree with you.good Idea i Agree
majapahit
FIRE WALLIf only the palisades can be turned into firewall where units can go through but receive damage.
howlingflute
I just tried out vts's work in progress on the wall placement. One word: Awesome . I can't wait until its fully implemented. I made a quick video of 0ad patched with vts's work in progress patch. The video of placing walls in 0ad: . I kind of hope that celt fanatics keep their testing ability to build any wall LOL.
