Which login manager do you use? GDM, KDM os XDM?
EDIT: BTW, I have changed nick. It was godlike previously.

Hi.
I just wanted to inform you, that I no longer use nick godlike. I have a new one: Belisarivs.
When I visited these pages for the first tim, I didn't take it so seriously, so I registered under first nick which went on my mind. But now, when I decided to observe forum carefully as well as share some knowledge, I've realised that my nich is too bombastic. So, I decided to ask admin to change it to something else. I use this nick in totalwar.org forums, too. Those who play(ed) mod Fall of Rome for Medieval: Total War (one of best mods fo MTW I've ever played) could know me.
So my nick has changed. Nothing else happaned, just wanted to make you know, so you won't wonder that you are communicating with someone else.
-
I expected it would be admin, who will be able to change my nick. Could you change it to Belisarivs? I use this nick in totalwar.org forums, too.
Thak you very much.

Perhaps you could play with config file for X11. Go to /etc/X11 and edit file Xorg.conf. Find "Section "Screen"". Few lines lower, you'll find DefaultDepth and some number. Change that to 8. also make sure if you have lines Saying
SubSection "Display"Depth 8
with avalable resolutions in that Section. Save and restart X11 (Ctrl+Alt+Backspace). Perhaps there ate some Shortcuts to switch between colour depths, to change resolutions written in Section "Screen" you can use Ctrl+Alt+Num- (or Num+).

Glad I could help. What is this program for?

What does WM mean?
Window Manager. Gnome, Kde, IceWM ... are Window Managers (WM).
Then try Xorg.0.log or XFree86.0.org or something like this.
Do you have ICQ or jabber? I think, that I could answer your questions quicker.

May I ask you if it is possible to change my nick on my own or is someone able to do it? When I've found this game (0AD), I didn't take it serionsly and wrote first thing that went on my mind. Now when I changed my decision (as this project looks promising and forum members are friendly) and found my nick too bombastic. Is it possible? I'd like to do it without making new login. Thank you.

I have idea.
I would really appreciate if there was auto signing of threads where I posted. I don't remember all of them, and if someone questions me in thread I posted in, and I forget it, it will not make anyone happy.

Excellent, SDL is working, now a bit firther on... "now start X11." Where/how do I do that? Can't figure it out...
Ehm, X11 (or X-Window) is grapfics layer above Linux. It runs above Linux as Win3.11 ran above MS DOS. So, whenever you are at graphical style and can operate with mouse or run Gnome, you are at X11. You can restart X11 by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Backspace. It kills it but daemon should automatically start it again.

Does it cause troubles only in gnome ot in other WM? Try to have a look at logs in /var/log directory. XFree86.log ... it could store some data.
-
Perfect. That's all I wanted to know. Thanx.

It's quite clear for me. You use more sources I think. one has both SDL and SDL-devel ver. 1.2.8-3.2. Another one has only SDL 1.2.9, but not devel of appropriate version. Your installer simply chose newer versions (SDL 1.2.9 and SDL-devel 1.2.8), but devel requires equal version od SDL not higher not lower.
BTW, I've managed to configure it:
creating cache ./config.cachechecking for a BSD compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c
checking whether build environment is sane... yes
checking whether make sets ${MAKE}... yes
checking for working aclocal... found
checking for working autoconf... found
checking for working automake... found
checking for working autoheader... found
checking for working makeinfo... found
checking for c++... c++
checking whether the C++ compiler (c++ ) works... yes
checking whether the C++ compiler (c++ ) is a cross-compiler... no
checking whether we are using GNU C++... yes
checking whether c++ accepts -g... yes
checking for sdl-config... /usr/bin/sdl-config
checking for SDL - version >= 1.0.0... yes
updating cache ./config.cache
creating ./config.status
creating Makefile
creating songs/Makefile
Another idea:
Try man rpm and find option to force to install package of different version something like "rpm -i package --force" should work, but be carefull. It is not quite secure.
BTW, did you try Synaptic? Graphic installer offers IMHO better control over installed packages than ncurses.
-
I've found this: link
Absolutely same problem. And solved.
BTW, I dislike these messages:
checking for working aclocal... missing
checking for working autoconf... missing
checking for working automake... missing
checking for working autoheader... missing
checking for working makeinfo... missing
Try to install missing programs.
I'd suggest to run ./configure --help. It will show another possible options for compilation. In mplayer it offers cool things. Runnin ./configure --enable-gui (only form mplayer) will allow you to compile mplayer with skinnable gui, for example.
Observe output of configure script carefully. It shows which functions will be compiled with program. It is important.

May I try to ask for help with development of devs for 0AD and TLA in Blender forum? I want to have it implemented in geme and want to take some action to ensure that it will be so.

Where do I get g++ then (I don't have it, I checked)? It isn't in the repository
Sorry, I can't tell you. I ceased using Fedora when I realised, that I have to compile Midnight Commander, IceWM and XMMS (mp3 support). It simply doesn't have programs I use most. Now I have Debian with its 15000 package repository. I have g++ as a single package.
But I found this: link
You can also install apt and Synaptic for Fedora. This option seems even better. Apt is console installer frontend, Synaptic is GTK2 installer frontend. Both ported from Debian and I strongly suggest their usage.

What about this: KNot For win32 only.
-
Is g++ even installed? What does a simple g++ --version say?
YOU GOT POINT, PREFECT. That's it. Shame, that it wasn't I who got it . Gcc is C compiler and g++ is C++ compiler AFAIK.
So if you don't have g++, C++ compiler cannot create executables. Seems logicall.
So I strongly suggest to install g++. That should solve your problem.
-
I think that it is some wooden stake. Wasn't it intended to look like flag?
-
Try to mess with configure script. Is your gcc ok? Perhaps that program doesn't work with newer gcc. Try to change simlinks of gcc to older version of gcc. I'll try to compile it in weekend and report to you. Agreed?

Hey Zezar, your avatar was intended to be such? It says someting like "This image was stolen ...".
I'm looking forward for modability under Linux (so I hope in implementation of Blender into 0AD).
I intend to change 0AD to Medieval mod, or at least I plan to help with it if someone has that idea too.
I loved Age of Kings and I felt it as a shame that it was so hard to mod and that there wasn't chance to mod most of stats of units and tech trees. I dreamt about making total conversion of it. I also love Medieval: Total War, it is modable quite well, but it has quite heavy limits. That is why I'm co excited about AD as I expect that with it will make my dream come true and I hope, that community will help me to make it happen, too.
I don't need some super mod tools. I can make myself comfortable with Blender and some text editor. But this doesn't mean, that I won't appreciate it.

I'm running Debian Sid. I have no troubles to compile mplayer. But I can't compile tdfx_vid.o (it isn't required for mplayer to compile, it is additional feature for Voodoo). Driver for mplayer for my graphic card.
-
Hey, calm down. You misunderstood me I know that it is Enlightenment. It was shown in movie after all.
It was meant, that that movie was so cool, that Windows Vista with its 3d superuseless junk sucks in comparison with it. Was it clear now?
Now excuse one off topic, but when things went to mplayer. I'm totally desparate with one thing. I can't compile tdfx_vid.o for my 3dfx Voodoo. I have MPlayer-1.0pre7try2 and when I go to folder of source of Mplayer and type "make -C drivers tdfx_vid.o" (or just go to drivers folder in that Mplayer folder and type make) to compile it, I get tons of parse and other errors. Did someone managed to compile it under 2.6.13 kernel? I have also downloaded latest CVS with same results.
-
I'm assuming that from your feeble attempt to change the subject you have no proof that Windows Vista sucks?
I'm not trying to change subject. I wanted to find links for you to download mplayer and all codecs. So, it took some time to write this post, so you wrote your post while I was writing my. That is why it seems that I'm trying to change subject even though I'm not.
Btw, did you see that film Dnas posted? Then you'll perhaps understand my reaction. Personally, I respect MS, but I dislike idea of OS which has HW requirements almost equivalent to Half-Life II in full details (I don't know requirements exacly, that was only estimate, but I don't think, that I missed too much).

I was curious which kernel patches do you use when compiling new Linux kernel.
I prefer archck. It contains CK Patchset, fbsplash (or bootsplash, you can choose), vesafb-tng, reiser4, shfs, acpi updates, Squashfs, UnionFS and Suspend2.
And you? You don't use vanilla kernel, do you?

I don't know. Try google. Did you try Synaptic? I suggest you to mess with this first. I've mentionet it few posts earlier.
