  1. I can't resist to ask what will be purpose of indians in this mod.

To give opportunity to the player to test how much time it will take his Husaria to cut them to the banners?

Will anybody be willing to play indians even though they are heavily technologically inferior to europeans?

I'd make natives to provide some auxiliary mercenary troops and that would be all.

Indians proved to be unable to match their european opponents in open battle unless heavily superior in numbers.

You'll have to screw realism and make indians more powerful so they are able to be somehow on par with their opponents (but it looks weird, have a look at AoK, Aztecs didn't use pikes, xbows and trebuchets, and even Aztec champion looks weird, needless to say, that jaguar warriors, despite their skill, simply couldn't beat heavy spanish infantry with such ease), allow them to heavily outnumber their enemy (but you'll have to face limitations of game engine) or expect them to lose anytime (which is rather bad idea).

Tactics to beat enemy by exhaustive skirmishes could work against AI, but definitely not against human player who will just avoid this and lay siege of players city which will turn in open battle and force indians to defend against besieger and thus lose advantage of skirmish tactics.

  2. The problem is thta i changed the configurations a LOT,and now i dont know how to make it back to how it was when i instal for the FIRST time

    Any sugestions to i research?

Well, I'd try to play with that Total Uninstaller. Data about configuration are perhaps stored in registry, so perhaps there would lie the problem.

And i had a idea,we could try to call the HG modders and see if they can learn modeling

Good idea. I already tried to convince Kor Bosch, but he refused.

And good lucjy with your studies

    Thanks.

  3. You perform exellent search. It is better. Because images (when displayed) are little bit confusing. Not making it useless, but siply few lines of text is easier to pass by.

What is wrong with your Blender? You set it wrong so it doesn't behave as it should? Did you mess GUI or something else?

If it is with GUI, perhaps you could do screenshot, upload it to imageshack.us and post link.

In Windows I can't help much. I mean, I can derive some ideas or so, but those random failures are one of reasons I moved to Linux. erhaps you could try something like Total Uninstaller. It reads registry and so before installation of program, then it reads it after installation and saves which keys were changed. Then you could simply remove those changed keys.

  4. I planned it to be rather modular.

I mean, when someone decides that some nation would be cool to add, that he would be free to create it and it would be added to the mod.

That is why I didn't make final decissions about it.

I hope, that someone will join us. But unfortunatelly, in two years (including this) I'll end my studies at the university (if things will go right) and thus will have to find job and start thinking about my own family and so. I just don't know if I'll be here to finish this mod as there would be other things which would draw my attention.

  5. I agree. I think, that Dark ages would be cool. But even timeframe 1000-1492 contains enough units and fun. And in fact it will be loooooooot of work. And for now, we are only two.

If you want for example 20 nations and with 10-20 units each, it means total of 200-400 units. Plus buildings, ships, techs ....

I'm thinking if I didn't take too much to handle it.

Yes, make it more organized. I'm thinking about something like AoK style. So, four periods with different units and so. So upgrade style shouldn't differ so much.

  6. Gl with your mod Mr, i should not say this, being all negative, but it is a LOT of work, making a mod =)

But good luck with it all, ill try the mod sometime when 0ad is done =)

Thanks. I know it and that is why I'm so desperately looking for someone to help me with texturing. Abadu does exellent search, but I need more help especially with that darned texturing.

  7. Cool pics, Abadu (that musketeer is out of scope of mod which ends around 1492 and IIRC Huscarls were using two-handed axes and were Saxons). I had some issues with my graphic card. That is why I was inactive for some time.

I'm still trying to create texture for Klibanophoros. But it is rather hard. Much harder than 3d modelling.

I must do that promised gude so others can participate, too.

Could someone do texture editing? I can handle modelling, but those textures ... bah. Only some bitmap editor is needed (GIMP, Photoshop ....).

  8. I was making a joke -- and I don't know anything about you, so I'll assume you don't know what you're talking about.

I missunderstood, OK, but in which way you gues I don't know what I am speaking about?

I know what happened in Tienanmen Square in 1989 well.

And, yes, China supresses human rights to a great scale. But it is a rapidly industrializing and modernizing society (the United States in the 19th Century, a period of similiar growth, had issues from slavery to genocide of natives to exploitation of cheap labor), and will eventually be one of the world's largest markets. Hell, if 75% of China lives in the Middle Ages, that 25% still totals more than the population of the United States.

It is not rapidly industrializing and modernizing society. It has cheap labour force which attracts foreign companies which create modern factories. But human live doesn't have any value for them still. Those companies are building that industry. Not the Chinese.

And slavery in USA and other such weren't aimed against own people. Chinese government enslaves own people.

And don't forget, that those 25% don't usually live in high standard. In China, only tiny portion of population belongs to elite caste which is rich. Rest lives in misery. Have you ever been to China? I didn't, but my brother was and all he reported only confirms my words.

Censoring a product to sell it in a different market does not imply that Google is supressing human rights. If Google was funding secret prisons or something to that extent, I could see your point. If Google is supressing human rights, than EVERY company with a Chinese wing is doing the same by supporting the economy. And every company with a Chinese wing includes every major company I can think of off-hand, almost without exception.

I didn't say, that Google supresses human rights. But if, for example, Cisco and any other company didn't sell to Chinese technology for filtering data, there are two options what would happen.

Either internet would be forbidden or (and I find it more probable, almost inevitable) people would be free to find any information and realise, that it isn't that bad in outer world. I thing, that realizing truth would lead to instant rebellion.

  9. It's not as if they're driving the tank.

I'm not sure if I understand you well, but I guess that you don't know about this picture and what it depicts actually.

Yes, those companies censor their products for one of the world's fastest growing markets.. but, ultimately, any access to the internet is a positive influence.

That growth is fed by lives and deaths of many people. China simply buys it by cheap menpower. Many coutries are more productive and advanced than China per person. Chinese are simply many. 75% of Chinese still live in middle ages. They cannot afford even basic education for their children. And medicine? When someone is ill, either herbal medicine will help him or he will die.

Definitely not the country where I, you and most of the world would like to live.

Either way, those companies help to suppress human rights, and that is enough for me to judge them for me. Google has achieved some things I regard as good and not that profitable in general (support of Open Source, Summer of code ...) which improves his reputation, but others didn't (especially M$ is famous for its reliance on Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V shortcuts which further lessens his reputation in my eyes).

  10. Someday a stranger will read your e-mail, rummage through your instant messages without your permission

That is why I have ceased using ICQ. SSL, TLS, RSA and GPG rule.

It is also funny that it is placed on MSN. MicroSoft and privacy simply don't fit together for me.

Google, M$, Cisco and Yahoo were judged for their help in suppressing human rights in Cina.

Try to search tor "tiananmen square" in google. In world out of China you'll get numbers of results with picture of guy and tank and others. But try same in China. You'll get much different results.

  11. As for the nuclear arms race, it will be interesting to see whether or not al-Qaeda attempts to purchase these nuclear bombs.

Funniest thing about this is, that al-Qaeda has close relations with Bush's family and has quite a lot of shares in american military industry. ;)

Have a look at Fahrenheit 9/11. That will explain a lot.

  12. I think mainly this means one thing: Continued sufferring for the North Korean people into the indefinite future.

"The best" thing about it is, that those Stalinists (yeah, that what happens in North Korea is far from being Communism) keep own people uninformed and thinking, that things are even worse on other countries.

I guess, that information about truth would lead to instant uprising of entire country.

I'd say that it is funny if it wasn't so terrible.

  13. Hey, don't buff up the graphics too much... I don't want to have to buy two new graphics cards before seeing the product in all it's intended glory. ;)

I don't understand it. It is just because of feeling that you could have something more?

Because I don't see other point of this. Why this game shouldn't be as beautiful as developers want? As long as it can be tuned to fit well on middle class machines.

  14. My feature idea.

I'd like to have some gallery where members would upload their work (models, textures ...) to make it publically available.

I've done something and like to share it. Yeah, my model is pretty lame, but I'm improving my skills and someone could make a good use of it. And when game is released, need for this feature will rise.

    Don't you think?

  15. So, you installed Blender and did some setting. Now you are unsatissfied with it and want to set it back?

Hm, I don't know where Blender saves it's settings in Windows. I use it only in Linux.

BTW, if I can suggest using jabber instead of this thread for this purpose ...

    It is quite simple.

As a bonus I'll be able to answer immediatelly.

If you need help to set it up, my ICQ is 289601727, but I almost don't use it. Personally, I don't like it at all. I keep it for backwards compatibility with those delayed ;) and try to persuade them to switch to jabber instead of those insecure, crappy, proprietary communication protocoles.

  16. Belisarivs,

I went through my folders and found out that Entertainment is indeed empty. Everything it appears has been deleted. Startup is also empty. Hope this helps. ;)

    - HG

Heh, for geeks still somehow bound to the beloved company from Rednomd, I'd suggest nLite. It modiffies instalation files of Win XP.

I was able to add my own drivers to win installation as well as remove IE totally. Also Acrobat Reader and FF was installed authomatically during installation from reworked installation CD.

    It's legality is questionable, though.

  17. Hm, check if those programs in Start --> Accessories --> Entertainment are really deleted or only their icons were erased.

Then you can create new shortcuts there pointing to those executables.

Thrash WMP. It is nothing than junk. Worst player and most user-enemy I know.

    Install m2v player instead.

Also creating quicklaunch icons isn't that hard.

Or upgrade system to Linux. You'll soon realize, that solutions you offer are totally crazy.

It is like throwing car from rock and buy new one when widescreen washer ceases working instead of refilling water in its reservoire.

It would be funny how many M$ users tend to solve problems by restart/reinstall/system restore if it wasn't that tragic. ;)
