If you download and install it again without uninstalling your settings should still be there. It is a pain to download the whole package again though, yes...
I don't use FF - I use Mozilla. And they don't work much on Mozilla anymore, so... I wish some of the things (like the better 'search as you type') from FF would 'backport' their way into Moz... or at least make something for FF/Thunderbird/etc. that makes them 'integrate' like Moz does.
Cheers!

About that lens flare - just cause I'm such a nitpicker I have to say that normally, lens flare goes from the light source towards the center of the screen .
Tim, that's cool, did you make it yourself ?
Klaas, wish I could do that...

Lol . Except that clock speed does not matter anymore... (even though I still have trouble remembering Intel's numbering scheme...)
Cheers!

Yup, I get your problem, but I'm not really sure why it's not working.
Just on a hunch, are you typing in http://.../ or http://.../index.php ?
Apache also keeps a logfile somewhere, try looking through that and post any suspicious lines here...
Hope it helps and good luck!

So you're saying that, if you type in http://localhost it will work but if you go to some other PC and type in http://192.168.1.1 (or whatever your IP is) then it doesn't?
There may be some sort of permissions problem there, first try setting the script to executable (chmod 755 script.php, and if you're on Windows I have no clue). Although you probably have, also make sure you set the MIME-types correctly (i.e. 'AddType application/x-httpd-php .php').
If it still doesn't work, then I don't think I will be able to help you much more... hope it helps and good luck!

mkisofs in Knoppix or Cygwin (http://www.cygwin.com/)?
Hope it helps and good luck!

It's probably a good idea to check whether you've set the permissions correctly (666 or 777). Otherwise I can't really help you...

If your BIOS is too old to boot from CD-drive (as in, even if you press DELETE or F12, there's no menu item that says 'IDE CD-ROM drive' or something like that), then you will have to make a boot disk (usually a floppy). There is a file on the Knoppix CD, called boot.img, that, when burned to a floppy (correctly ) will create a boot floppy for Knoppix. If there's a folder called 'dostools' or whatever there may be some command-line tools in there to help you burn the floppy (and I'm starting to use 'burn' for floppies too... ).
Hope it helps and good luck!

All in a .zip file? Try gzip or bz2...
Cheers!
-
I'm amazed it even ran... And I recommend you getting a single-slotter cause you never know when you're going to want that PCI slot...
Cheers!
-
Are you sure you burnt the ISO as an image? Put the CD in the drive (while in Windows), and change to the CD drive in Windows Explorer. When you do, is there a file with the name KNOPPIX-... .iso there? Cause if there is, you did it wrong .
On the other hand, if you did burn it, first check the md5sum (as described above), burn it once you're sure it's correct, and if it still doesn't load, try pressing ESCAPE or F12 before the 'loading Windows' screen comes up (i.e. on Dells, press F12 when the computer first starts up and you see the loading bar, on HPs, press ESCAPE when you see the HP logo). This should (I think) bring you to a screen that lets you choose where to boot from.
Hope it helps and good luck!

No, I think the heatsink is attached to the card when you buy it.
-
It looks like it would only take one slot, but it's not a side-on photo and therefore I can't really give you a good estimate. Like I said, it looks like a one-slotter, but there's no indication on the website so don't trust me .
Hope it helps and have fun!
-
Doesn't say anything about single slot or anything but it looks good .
Hope it helps and have fun!

I don't especially care for the laptop's height as long as it's not extremely thick. My biggest concerns are really memory and battery power...

So you're saying that you could (potentially) hack my computer!?! (and/or can figure out my password?)
That means I'm getting a better password... or I'm going to close my SSH port .
-
First I wouldn't recommend ATi because of lackluster driver support on Linux (changing a little bit now...) and general unstability on both Win and Lin.
I can't really give you too much of a 'professional' recommendation myself (not having the best card), but here's something on the Overclockers front page:
Leadtek 6600 GT offers 6800 features at lower prices. Providing exceptional quality and great performance at just £114.95 +VAT.If I were you I would go with one of the GeForce 6 series (one of the lower end ones if you're looking for a lower price), and buy one from ASUS (cause from what I hear/read, they only take up one slot as opposed to normal ones taking 2).
If you do buy an nVidia, plan on probably upgrading your power supply and maybe wasting a PCI slot (unless you buy from ASUS of course).
Hope it helps and have fun!

Great! So my ISP does block port 80... can you guys try an SSH to my computer too (don't try to hack it though )?
At least now I know that it's not my firewall/computer's problem...
Thanks!
-
And Windows (at least < SP2) didn't come with Windows Update turned on...
-
That's an interesting consideration... let me try it . Do you think something like 81 would be good?
Alright, UniPeak and them can't access webservers not at port 80... an SSH to SourceForge.net cannot access the Internet at all, and I don't have any other method of checking to see if it works... so, I would like to make a request for you guys to test it for me. Point your browsers to:
http://altitude.dyndns.org:81/
Which should redirect to http://www.altitude-tech.com/ and have a brief header of 'personal server'.
Thanks and cheers!

I would get one if it supported more standard formats...

I've got an 128 MB, and I must say that I haven't yet seen a game that taxes its memory.
And 512 isn't the most I've seen either, there are high-end (read: in the thousands) graphics cards that have over 600! Like that 3DLabs Wildcat Realizm 800 (with 640 MB memory and PCI-E!). And read this in the product features:
Innovative 256 GB virtual memory support shatters the limits of onboard memory by automatically handling huge datasets while caching essential data for fastest accessIf a (home) computer came out with 256 GB of memory, that would be extremely... interesting . The good thing is:
Microsoft® Windows® 2000, Windows XP or Red Hat® Linux Enterprise Edition (ver 3.0 or later). A single one costs $2281.85!!! But back on topic...
Cheers!

Dell is good for those people who aren't techo-geeks (i.e. us ). I think my Dell can run Windows fine, and for the average home user they could care less what type of floppy drive and power supply they use. But for the rest of us, I think we deserve something better .
And I will cry if I see one more '___ recommends Windows XP Pro'. On my site I should put, 'We recommend Linux for all your home office needs!' or something to that extent.
Cheers!

I have a feeling that it is some sort of firewall problem, however turning the firewall off on both router and computer produces no visible effect. I have DMZ set on to go to my local computer as well. Apparently it's practically impossible to access my computer from the internet, somehow (I'm testing this by going to Unipeak and attempting to access my personal computer's Apache server).
This is extremely annoying, as I need to be able to access my computer from outside my home, and with this setup I currently can't. I'm using a LinkSys WRT54GS router with latest firmware and SuSE Linux 9.2 using susefirewall2. If anyone has any clue why this is happening, ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!
Should we re-implement the rep system?

Well, I remember when I was a newcomer here, and it was rather exciting to get messages in your inbox saying, member x has increased your reputation.
I guess there isn't much practical usefulness to it (besides being able to know, at a moment's glance, what someone's [potentially misleading] rep is), but it was a nice cosmetic addition IMO .
Cheers!
