  1. no, but I would advise on not using them (have one for necessity of course)

I have made a few purchases with my parents' cards, and I got to say, it's way too easy. After buying a few gallons of paint at $50, I didn't even know it. With cash, its really obvious just how much you spend. Its not a coincidence that many, many Americans have credit card debt.

    :P to Amish :P

  2. I'm always for preaching skeptism :P

IMO most countries w/o their own intelligence agencies pretty much took the US's word for the WMD business, on credibility. Thus its not much of an argument to say "well everyone else agreed that Iraq had WMD"

"I was wrong. I am not pleased about it at all and I think all Americans should be concerned about this," O'Reilly said in an interview with ABC's "Good Morning America."

That's wishful thinking. Hey look! Kobe Bryant's trial is coming up!

  3. I think any good religion would be backed with logic, and so if you can argue for something you truly believe (that is the same as your religion), then you know the religion is right. No wait, I'm lost there... ummm, I think the "right" religion (although most all of them have something right) would be able to be backed up by logic or trends.

most arguments for Christianity that I've heard (that probably could be the same for any other religion, just shuffling the names) is fallacious in some way. For me, religion = faith, no religion = reason. For you, it might be different (irrefutable, verifiable, repeatable evidence of a religious experience, perhaps?)

There may be more Christians now, but watch out, Islam is the world's fastest growing religion.

Oh, and to my knowledge, there is no real abortion law in the Bible. Maybe because it wasn't important back then?

  4. It's very rare for a person with that kind of platform (like Moore, Coutler, etc.) to admit he was wrong. I guess the point I agree with most (for now at least) is that Tenet should be sacked. If a general in the army utterly fails (Pearl Harbor for ex) then they should be fired, no question. If not Tenet, then whoever was responsible. It is very strange to see such little shuffling of leadership in US intelligence after 9/11.

  5. I have ninja posting speed. :P As for stars, if one star is found older than the 4,000/6,000/10,000 YEC's lose.

The sun into that category. Ergo (love that word), a literal interpretation of Genesis is false, or at least irrational. Of course, God could have created the sun with evidence of it being old, but why would he trick us? (that brings up the possibility that we were all created 5 minutes ago with evidence of a past, memory, etc. :P )

  6. just a quick question to everyone: what denomination are you? They all have their own different views on salvation and such. Do you believe in a Rapture/Second coming?

Thug, nice try. In fact good works do get us to Heaven. You just have to be perfect. Since no one is perfect, the works we can do don't do a thing for us.

So... a very good person is on exactly the same level as a serial killer? (just trying to sort this out) What if the killer becomes a born-again at his death bed?

  7. weren't there more than one?

    :P

I need to spruce up my French history for quiz bowl, since every team needs a francophile :P lessee I think it was after the war of 1812, so... 1812?

or French and Indian war, so 1750's?

or maybe the franco-prussian war? or the crimian war? I think there was also one after Vietnam (for the french at least).

  8. hey sorry to neglect my earlier statement! Found some faith/good works salvation quotes here:

    Faith:

    Mk.16:16

"He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be darned."

    Jn.3:18, 36

"He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already .... He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."

    Acts 16:30-31

"Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house."

    Rom.1:16-17

"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God salvation to every one that believeth .... As it is written, The just shall live by faith."

    Rom.3:20

"By the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight."

    Rom.3:28

"A man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law."

    Rom.4:2

"For if Abraham were justified by works he hath whereof to glory?"

    Rom.4:13

"For the promise ... was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith."

    Rom.5:1

"Therefore, being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."

    Good Works:

    Ps.62:12

"For you render to each one according to his works."

    Jer.17:10

"I the Lord ... give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings."

    Mt.12:37

"For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned."

    Mt.16:27

"For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works."

    Mt.19:17

"If you want to enter into life, keep the commandments."

    Lk.10:26-28

"He said unto him, What is written in the law? how readest thou? And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbour as thyself. And he said unto him, Thou hast answered right: this do, and thou shalt live."

    Jn.5:29

"And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of darnation."

    Rom.2:6, 13

"Who 'will render to each one according to his deeds'. For not the hearers of the law are just in the sight of God, but the doers of the law will be justified."

    2 Cor.5:10

"For we must all appear before the jugment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad."

I'm sorry about the copy-paste job, but I'm no Bible scholar so I can't find them for myself. :P

It means if you are given much knowledge of God and the Bible, you will have a burden to spread it. However, if you don't know of Jesus or God or the Bible or anything like that, then God will expect less from you.

hmm... that's interesting, I wonder what God's purpose for the skeptic's annoted Bible is? :P

  9. there may be literal-Believers that are liberal.
but those are very strange indeed (I know one)

    anyways,

For most general purposes, your definition of agnostic is alright. HOWEVER, it is slightly off. ex:

Theist: "there is a ____ god."

Atheist: "there is no ___ (specific) god."

agnostic: "there is no way to prove/disprove the existence of the ___ god."

agnostic splits into the roots "a-" (not, without) "gnostic" (knowledge, or more specificly for the time, the higher Christian spiritual knowledge).

See the difference? Most of the people in your non-literal theist catagory would fall into my agnostic, since the belief of god is taken complete on 'faith', not any evidence (like how we take the existence of gravity or electricity). Take away the faith, and that takes a large chunk, IMO, out of much of the Christian message (ex. Gal.3:11-12 "The just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith.")

Generally though, answering 'agnostic' on a survey means your an atheistic agnostic, because theistic agnostics generally answer their religion (did I say this before? :P ).
