  1. Yeah Adam can get a little gulible every once in awhile :)

The 2-party system is bad enough, there was a 30 hour session over 4 judicial nominees for gods sake! One can only imagine what more parties would do in a much larger country. Would it break down into constant bickering? Would parties need to compromise with each other to get anything to pass? Maybe that's a good thing...

Reading up on Latin America can really put it in perspective at how difficult it can be to maintain a good, fair government.

  2. Well she has been found guilty, that must count for something!

She did lie, which is wrong, but I don't think this kind of stuff is a black and white issue. What she did was fraudulently make a few bucks, while there are others who've embezzeled millions AND ruined the lives of thousands of employees, who did nothing (enron perhaps?).

  3. Well I'm sure if your a jew in Isreal, that's not a problem :)

I'm getting worried about my state getting taken over by fundamentalists, first this bill, and now recently an anti-evolution bill is starting to be adopted by the school board! ;) I really like the eurpean take on this issue, but there is a considerable amount of anti-europe (well I suppose anti-everyone-who-isn't-american) sentiment around here.. especially of late. That of course is a whole 'nother topic.

I hear over and over again how marriage is sacred. Who says so? Just because it has been around for hundreds of years (so what)? Just because it works (it doesn't all the time)? It's the Bible (and..)? I'm sure if we went back a couple of years, Jefferson Davis and the Confederacy would be saying the exact same things.

  4. yeah I know he's not _in_ college right now, but I'm sure he's been _near_ it, hence the question "what's it like there?" ;) The only college I've been to so far outside Cleveland is Air Force Academy, and they had guards with M-16's at the gates (y)

    as for last samauri's list:

if you were smart in high school it doesnt matter at all in college

-I can see that trouble with a lot of kids in my class, I'll take the warning to myself too though .

you will miss home more than you think, so dont go to far away.

-lol can't wait to get out of this suburb so distant from anything that I have cornfields basically across my street :D

if at all possible dont bring a TV with you, i know it sounds crazy but my TV is killing me.

    -almost never watch TV anyways

buy a vehicle with good gas mileage to go back home with, my truck gets 13 mpg and i live 230 miles from my college. that trasnlates to around 60-70 dollars round trip.

-love my buick! I think it gets about 20

  5. you can probably agree that the Jewish mob who is ultimately responsible for his death, but in actuality, that's what happened.

I've heard that Mel based this movie on the Bible very closely (I'm not gonna bring up any debate here (y) )

I've also heard that the Passion is an endless, bloody torture that shows almost none of the love that Jesus normally stand for. I haven't actually seen it though, so maybe comments from those who have? I have no interest in seeing this movie though, here's a decent review.

  6. ah free college, I should move to Europe ;)

    It would cost me ;)

Hey chichi how do you like USC? That was another one that I was thinking about, but I don't know if Los Angeles is the right city for good'ol midwestern guy like me :) I heard SoCal is getting smog from China, as if they didn't already have enough ;)

*curufinwe I think the word your looking for is 'electability'

  7. yup black op, I think 'colleges' are generally smaller, and 'universities' are the big ones that offer many different programs. There are sooo many colleges in the US its hard to chose... and only 1 that I'm looking at is in-state (The Ohio State University) ;) but lucky me I get $20 grand off a year at Syracuse (if I go there) because of the tuition exchange program :)

  8. I was reading the Anthem last week, and wanted to know what people thought about her general philosophy, Objectivism. Here's a short list from the Ayn Rand website:

    1. Metaphysics: Objective Reality

         2. Epistemology: Reason

         3. Ethics: Self-interest

         4. Politics: Capitalism

The main points I have problems with are #3 and #4. A pure, Smith-like capitalist society I think would break down after awhile, when monopolies form (monopolies obviously prevent competition, which is what capitalism is all about). As for #3, I don't know if Rand means man shouldn't be altruistic or should not have the responsibility to be altruistic. I agree more with the second rather than the first. Either way, our society praises altruistic behaviour (to a point). That is why serving the army is good (up to Vietnam at least) and philanthropists are praised. Comments? :)

  9. Well you are a self-described atheist Aren't you up against society as a whole? What do you gain? I know many religious people that are quite happy with their faith and their families and their friends and their jobs, etc.
ah it wasn't a choice just a conclusion I came to after reading philosophy and actually taking interest in what I was doing at church. As for the fight against society, bring it on!:drunk: anyways that has nothing to do with the issue. I have a very hard time seeing how I could choose my sexuality, so I (maybe incorrectly) assume that no one else can. I also do not know anyone else who has chosen there sexuality (not a common topic around here though :band: ), and although this in itself is not proof, it is pretty good evidence that it is not a choice.
  10. Here's an article from the Scientific American on race: The Reality of Race

and while I was there I searched for homosexuality, but I need to be registered to download the article

I have two points with the religious argument:

    1) The word 'sin' implies choice. You have the burden of proof saying homosexuality is a choice. I personally find it very unlikely, seeing that there is virtually no gain and much to loose if one 'chose' to be homosexual (when I say loose I mean societal losses, not moral ones).

    2) If you want to go to the Bible, it is absurd to use some laws it proposes and not others. One cannot just pick and choose which laws are applicable! I posted earlier a passage saying that homosexuals must all be exucuted: (which I am looking for...)

And of course you have strange laws like stoning a disobedient son, marrying a raped virgin, and not being allowed to a shirt of 'two threads' (lucky me my shirt is 100% cotton :drunk: )

  11. hydrogen power is, at least right now and in the near future, not feasable because A our main source of hydrogen IS fossil fuels and B it takes more energy to make it than it provides (like a AA battery). I would love to see Tesla's energy as much as anyone... but I am still a bit skeptical whenever someone's life work 'disappears' because of a 'conspiracy'. But, who knows! If it was true, perhaps the secrets will be uncovered after the collapse of the greedy energy-lord-capitalist controlled civilization! Hopefully sooner, of course!
