  1. "since when do we care about forum polls?" - a recent quote where the context was very similar to this one. The correct course of action is to just: https://code.wildfiregames.com/differential/diff/create/ and hope someone looks at the thing and goes "hey, that might be cool. I need to add that". Also, if you need inspiration or something, https://code.wildfiregames.com/D1400. It was conjured up by two top players. Seems like neither of them are really around anymore.
  2. This one is probably slower. Cool art with not so impactful code changes. The pathfinder rewrites could be slower or negligible. Those were not meant for performance apparently. (Since its now supposed to handle more edge cases, its probably the former) A dev feel free to correct me on that. (Not sure how many of them look this place)
  3. By not fixing design bottlenecks quickly, you get screwed in the end. And fixing them becomes impossible instead of just hard. (Intels report claimed using js was the major bottleneck, well, I like to see someone attempt a major rewrite.) NTFS comes to mind. And I am not saying that because l use ext4 or zfs or something else. Checking out version controlled repos are terrible on Windows. Especially when there are a lot of commits.
  4. Evidently so. I assumed Universe was like the AUR. I guess they still have UbuntuBackports.
  5. Got a link to that policy? The repo of a distro supported not being updated at all doesn’t seem right. If thats not the case whats the point of the Universe repo.
  6. The 0ad package on Debian was 23.2, which got into 19.4 ubuntu repos.
  7. Two hoplites or something. This is a flyer for a video game. Classic business marketing needs to be tweaked. If I don't like the images in the flyer, I wont bother downloading and finding out the rest. And I am sure I am not the only one.
  8. One might ask the DE developer if he would recommend doing that.
  9. Anything wrong with actually not allowing building on terrain like that?
  10. I see. Aristarchus did indeed propose a heliocentric universe. But the geocentric model as proposed by Claudius Ptolemy had already been the standard by then and would remain so until the mid 1500s. I thought about this a bit more and “astrology” would indeed be the better term. If something like Greek Fire was added, it would be under alchemy. Not chemistry. Those were the sciences of the time. Who's to say that a millennia down the road, part of todays science wont be pseudo-science then.
  11. Hipparchus was geocentric. In fact, his theories ensured the survival of a geocentric universe for a long time. But he did accurately (for the time) model the apparent motion of both the sun and moon. Even Earth’s precession. Then again, I guess pseudo-science was the norm of the time. So maybe it was the same people who told to look at the North star and that people born when a constellation is at zenith would be rich.
  12. I remain skeptical. Aside from identifying constellations and seeing they moved, nothing scientific about it exists. Those two can be classified as astronomy. Astronomy did very much exist back then. What Ptolemy did was not astrology. What he did was impressive for the time of a geocentric universe. He even proposed solutions based on science for things the model could not handle. Obviously wrong, but its closer to what science is about.
  13. Navigation using stars fall into Astronomy. They make sense mathematically too while astrology usually defies all odds in probability. (Dont take this statement the wrong way)
  14. As expected, given this thread is hosted on wfg’s forum. If you want up-to-date information, ask away at https://webchat.freenode.net/#forkad
  15. I can’t blame you. I posted that right after buying a can of Tuna. Which is being driven to extinction by overfishing fueled by global demand which I am directly contributing to. Since, unlike most people, I actually believe in these things and how dire they can be, that actually makes me worse. I am now a hypocrite rather than just being ignorant.
  16. Well, livestock is bad for the environment. It produces up to 2.7 billion tonnes of methane a year. What that number makes people feel is a different thing. Does it contribute to climate change?, of course it does. It is Methane. In any case, you sleep in the bed you made. If the bed is mass starvation from crop failure, then so be it. I hate to get political (just kidding, I really like getting political), the free market and it’s core principle of demand driving growth is the cause of the mess we are in. Economic growth depends on consuming more, the fate of the environment depends on the opposite. And no, I am not communist lul.
  17. Then I would push for something with high single core performance. For what you plan on doing, your current setup is kinda better than the new one since it has a higher base freq. (its not specific to 0AD. Most games run pretty heavy algorithms on a single core) Although, your current processor is a discontinued line which does not seem to have the max turbo freq pushing thing.
  18. Anything can be improved. Stay tuned for the release of a certain other project. As mentioned on the initial announcement, improving SP is one of the main goals.
  19. The answer to the AoE vs TW question depends on the persons opinion on the genre. Given we that we all started working on this game as it was more like AoE, the answer to all TW inspired features might not be yes. That would probably be unanimous I suppose. Well, this escalated quickly lol. Remember the person behind the screen before you hit send, folks.
  20. When given logical arguments, there is a single right answer. Either it is good, or it is bad. That being said, no project would ever go forward if all of it's members are on different wavelengths constantly.
  21. Adding comes after testing. I really don't think there is another way of going about things. "hey, you think this would be cool" "probably" ... "change this and that" ... "thanks for the review" change has been merged. Your patch is diffed against your current tree as opposed to master on D2338
  22. Sure, but that discussion is supposed to weed out ideas which would not quite work. That does not take that long. Such a team is possible. I actually know such a team.
  23. Indeed. While their CPUs are top-notch, AMD cant seem to get a good graphics driver out. (I dont know if that is really the case now). Both intel and nvidia got decent drivers though. *drivers for linux. I am sure their cards work nicely on windows
  24. That 2.8GHz is the max single core perf. But usually it’s just 1.5GHz. Apparently, given the right scenarios, it would reach 2.8GHz. I wouldn’t assume that for most practical usages, it would exceed 1.5GHz.
