Another test. I made this one fairly quick with blender sculpt tools. I think the most time-consuming part will be hand painting different parts to mask them out in order to use different colors/textures/playercolor. I know the design sucks, but I was experimenting Anyway, there's already a lot of macedonian bronce shields of this kind in the game...
-
Please post here shield types, emblems, weapons, armors and other unit props on the time period that you think should be included. This is my first shield test. Directly from a public domain ptolemaic coin image. Not sure how historically correct this could be. Rounded bolts would be probably be deleted, they're bothering me a little.

Nice. Keep in mind, that image in particular is CC BY SA 3.0 So we will have to give attribution of the artwork to the author. -

Hey Lion, I was looking for your emblem artwork in order to add it to some shields I'm currently working on, but when double checking the source images that you used to make the emblem, I found they're copyrighted. You can see it clearly when you scroll down the image page at the bottom right on "additional information" (It's shown here in spanish and it says "todos los derechos reservados": all rights reserved) -
Thank you guys! From my experience, Blender tends to show heavier colors than the 0AD engine. We'll see once imported into the game I'm going to need some infantry props to decorate military buildings. Time to start with infantry

Hello! I'm back from vacation! Progress update. Here are the 6 final? houses variations and some sketches for the mill and farmstead.
-
Wow. Really awesome artwork you are producing m8. I favor the idea of making a convention for portrait background colors informing about the unit type: melee, ranged, cav, civilian... Keep 'em coming!
-
I thought the beams made the structures look more interesting Yellow is very predominant and I wanted some dark parts for contrast. The doors are actually single doors, but with beam in the middle. Do they look so impressive?
-
House variations realtime screenshot (no AO) and rendered with AO to see more detail.. I'll probably make one or two more. I've almost finished the texture, I just want to make some minor corrections in one portion to make it more grey to break the yellow a little bit. There is still room fore more textures if needed/suggested. We'll probably add a greek looking building, but I think it will look a little weird, we'll see.

Nice idea It's actually super-easy to upload WIPs (you can upload the .blend file with the light setup and just package the texture used). Here's the ptolemaic house model I'm working on the ptolemaic structures thread: http://skfb.ly/5lk4hed0a

Next non fancy texture and house iteration. House footprint is the half as before: (sorry, image is too big)

I like the idea. It makes sense to me. More building diversity, more time on the barracks to produce units. Questions: phase 1 or 2? resource cost? Will it have siege upgrades also? -
Do you mean to also make them smaller like mauryan ones?
-
Yep, LordGood's fortress look pretty good too, but it will need re-scaling I think. I can try to texture it and see how it looks. Here's a house test. Same footprint as persian houses. I'm thinking to make the main color tone more toward pale yellowish color... but not sure.

Hehe, thanks. Dont worry about the beams, that is just a placeholder model to test the textures on something. The in-wall beams seems to be a recurrent feature on houses though, those will probably stay. -

That's looking like a great start. I like the main colors too. Do you plan to keep working on it? I was talking about "poor" structures wall textures. I leave a shot of what I'm aiming right now, trying to find the correct main colours for the civilization. And I was referring to "floor tiles". Those cartoon references look great they also depict the structures painted in white with the ornamental paintings over the white... I always thought that their main colour would be a yellowish tone -

HUGE amount of information and illustrations here: http://www.ajhw.co.uk/books/book79/index.html#anchor2 -
Trying to define the structures direction with the first concepts like we did with mauryan ones and gather some feedback. These are WIP concept structures, nothing is finished or final. First some CC concepts: And these are the old ones, which I think the only one that could be used is the fortress concept (temple would be probably greek) Non-fancy structures concepts coming soon. I would like to base some of them in LordGood concepts, he made several good ones in a screenshot somewhere in the forum.

Thanks! :-) I already had a rigged human basemesh I made some time ago. And the face was an high poly one from a Nefertiti bust I was working before joining WFG. The rest was just making the pose and decimate the model as much as I could without looking wonky. I still have to bake AO before commiting, but I'm working in CCs concepts.... I couldn't resist :-P I'm going to need some help with the non fancy texture though. Can't find a good wall color texture. And some kind of egyptian tiles would be useful. Suggestions are very welcome -

After some time of inactivity I decided to finish the ptolemies sculptures set. I think 7 will be enough. This is a render with AO. Female dress will be playercolored and probably male skirt (blue and white variations are in the same texture) I hope to jump soon to the buildings and finish the non-fancy texture. -

I really like those new concepts Pureon. I'm sure they'll give a very nice look to the overall game once finished. Keep it up! -

Nice see you making progress on blender man! I'm going to make a non-fancy texture for houses and economy buildings after the sculptures. You can try to iluminate the scene with a light set-up and switch the viewport to glsl renderng so you can see the realtime result for texturing. I can provide you with some light setups if you want. -
Well, that hypothesis is not so out of the road if after milennia of developement you cannot match the buildings done by not-so-developed civilisations. I'm not saying all that is said on the video is true. They're hypothesis and arguments that can or cannot be valid to you. You always have to use your common sense and discern what could be true and what is not to you. LOL never heard of it, although I know where DoƱana is!That remembers me one of the talkings that got me researching about this kind of stuff from Klaus Dona. He don't make hypothesis, or theories... he just take OOPARTs (out of place artifacts) and collects them. He found a very cool world map engraved in a "somewhat" spheric rock with some unknown continents one of them in the atlantic that is rumored could be atlantis: http://www.bibliotec...a/life48_05.jpg Here's the full presentation: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jl_YdTjey10
