  1. 3DS Max is also acceptable for buildings (or any static meshes).
  2. I'd probably just keep the list of "detector" units to other spies and maybe heroes.
  3. Indeed, movies presented in Germany show Nazi symbolism all the time: Downfall (2004). Given everything I've seen and read and all the answers on this thread, I can't see how a Hindu good luck symbol will hurt the game in the slightest.
  4. Well, if people are asking only for triggers, then that shouldn't be a problem. We just don't have the manpower to create actual narrative campaigns and folks just need to accept that. I suspect though we'll still get post after post asking why we haven't included a campaign.
  5. The years of work come in creating the content expected after triggers are implemented.
  6. Someone suggested that the a killed sheep belonging to the player could be the issue.
  7. http://trac.wildfire...com/ticket/1754 Seems to be some bugged object on Median Oasis 4 that AegisBot does not like or there's some bug in Aegis Bot or the common API v2. 8. I like the detail on the doors. Finally some gates that aren't just flat planes. I'd remove all the shields instead.
  9. With the current state of the game I anticipate immense lag.
  10. A "complete" 1.0 release is whatever we deem it is. To me, triggers aren't necessary for a complete release. The 1.0 release does not need to be the most awesomest RTS ever. We would need to start thinking outside the box in order to include things like a full set of triggers, cut scenes, voice acting, narrative campaigns, and the like before we all reach retirement age. Outside of the box means hiring on some team members at full-time for the next 2 years. One or more artists/designers, one or more programmers, and maybe a management person. It can be done, we'd just have to raise the money. I have no doubt we could raise the funds. Crowd-sourcing is all the rage these days. It's just finding the right people is the problem. I could be one of the artists/designers, but we'd still need one or more programmers for it to work.
  11. Yep, you only have to build 4 or 5 buildings from that phase. So, in Village Phase in order to unlock the Town Phase upgrade you can build 3 houses and 2 mills, or 5 houses, or 3 mills, a house, and a farmstead, or any combination of structures available at the start of the game (minus palisades, those don't count). We wanted to try and allow players to experiment with their own build orders instead of forcing one way or another.
  12. These examples seem to only muddy the waters. Let's just make a Germany version and be done with it.
  13. Probably the most athletic dancing I've ever seen. These folks are in incredible shape.
  14. Good thing then that we are not a commercial outfit and don't have to worry about investors. We can do what's right based on deliberation and facts, not fear. Let's try to get the advice of someone who really knows what they're talking about. I don't think any of us are legal scholars.
  15. I'm wondering why we are assuming there would be people offended by our use of the Hindu swastika... And it is not at all clear yet that the use of the Hindu swastika would make the game banned in Germany. I respect FeXoR's comments and views, but he's not a legal scholar as far as I know. We should seek the advice of someone who actually has experience in this area. Well, like I said, I am 'ok' with a toggle or something like that. But again, to reiterate, I think we should actually seek out the advice of someone who knows exactly what they're talking about. If Germany has even banned Hindu swastikas, then I think an alternate (multiplayer compatible) version for Germans is fine. It wouldn't be difficult to do at all. It's just, we are not sure yet if we even need to do this.
  16. It would be great to revamp the 0 A.D. profile page too... but perhaps wait on that until after new website launch.
  17. If you match the Persian wall segment lengths, then I think it will work fine.
  18. I'm perfectly okay with a toggle or even a Germany-only version that removes the "offending" textures (as long as this doesn't cause multiplayer incompatibilities). However, there is a distinction between the Nazi swastika as commonly portrayed, and the Hindu swastika we use in the game. I thought we talked about this before and concluded that Hindu cultural symbols (i.e. swastikas) are indeed not banned by German law. Is there not a court precedence in Germany that sheds light on the issue? And here's another thought: What if we were developing a World War 2 RTS? Would we be "insensitive" if we included Nazi symbolism in such a game? If you can be honest with yourself and say, "We would obviously have to use Nazi symbolism in such a game, whether some people like it or not," then you should be honest with yourself and come to the conclusion that we should use Hindu symbolism in 0 A.D., whether some people like it or not.
  19. Germany bans depictions of Nazi symbols in video games, but not the Hindu swastika. I believe there was a court ruling in Germany on this matter.
  20. In the end, as I see it, 0 A.D. would be its own game, not simply an Age of Empires clone. Granted, we've often compared the game to Age of Empires and Age of Empires II, but the game is only inspired by those games, it does not imitate them. So, what 0 A.D. will be is a historical real-time strategy game with an emphasis on the strategy element. It'll use combat formations, technology trees, warships, territorial expansion, and buildings in unique, strategic ways that the Age of Empires series never approached.
  21. 0 A.D. isn't meant to emulate the typical Starcraft click-a-thon strategies. Much of 0 A.D.'s gameplay has been designed to alienate the twitch-gamer. But having said that, micromanaging battles is still very important. And the "territory" aspect will always be a part of the "default" gameplay. However, we'll probably have a "classic" gameplay mode that removes territories and build limits and all that, to give it the typical Age of Empires feel.
  22. How can we make the gate opening/closing sound be localized to the gate, instead of omnipresent as in this video?
