The guy in #190 never figured out soldiers can build things too, nor did he figure out that they gathered resources. I am wondering if we can't force users to explore uses for citizen-soldiers by making the starting units be only citizen-soldiers, with no women.

Originally, the idea was that only cavalry would be able to capture female citizens, but that doesn't mean for the sake of simplicity that this needs to remain so. For simplicity's sake, we could just make any military unit be able to capture female citizens. I have no problem with that. With all the capture ideas, I think the simplest ways are most attractive. I proposed that soldiers should capture buildings by their default behavior because to me it seems the simplest way for the player. Using a separate Loyalty stat instead of using Health for capturing separates the two behaviors (capturing vs. attack) and makes most intuitive sense to the player. Animals, like sheep, goats, cattle, etc., would have very little Loyalty, to the point that capturing is nearly instantaneous and not really necessary to even display the Loyalty bar in their UI. Buildings (and perhaps female citizens, elephants, etc.) would have considerably more and would need to display the Loyalty bar in their UI panels. This is fine, since we already have space for it.

Checked it out in-game. It looks to be scaled a little too small compared to the other barracks (except the Iberians, whose barracks might turn into their Blacksmith). EDIT: The actual structure of the building should be scaled up like 20%. The props, no. But I'm sure you know that. Sorry to be a pain.

Nice! Does this have AO maps? I'd swap in a different shield for that 3rd sun shield on top of the parapet in the left building. I see 3 sun shields in a row.

This looks great, and is a good reference for their ox cart trader. -

The design and direction is fantastic. You now need to cut some things out in order to scale it correctly and shrink it's footprint. The footprint looks about 30% too large. -
requirement "mesh has single set of polygons"
Mythos_Ruler replied to idanwin's topic in Tutorials, references and art help
You should only export one object at a time into its own Collada file. In 3DSMax this is called "Export Selected..." while you have only one object selected. Exporting multiple objects (or meshes) together produces that error. -
I have to agree with idanwin here. As long as we slope the edges of the flattened area somewhat, it'll look okay. Plus, buildings can't be built on steep areas anyway, so the chances of seeing pathing inconsistencies is low (but not zero).

Constant interaction with fans. They used to have weekly releases (for those who have pre-ordered) and weekly development videos. Not sure about that now, though, since it's been a while since I've been in the loop.

I think we all mostly agree on this. The disagreement is on "how flat." Some wish to maintain some kind of slope relative to the original terrain and some (me) are okay with just making it completely flat (with some sloping on the edges to make the flat area blend well). Problems that need to be solved include pathfinding tweaks (since the new sloped areas may or may not change the passability of tiles, so how do we deal with this?).

Alpha 13 is the "debut" of the Mauryan faction for the game. We're kind of behind on these guys, so we're going to have to kick it into high gear in order to make the Alpha 13 deadline (late February? early April?). Mauryan BuildingsThe Mauryan buildings have been getting work done on them, but problematically in Sketchup, which doesn't seem to be able to export compatible Collada files (they need tons of cleanup work). However, the work of LordGood and others has not been in vain, as they do provide great references and proofs of concept for Blender/3DS Max artists to emulate, and some of the exported files can be cleaned up well enough. Standard Buildings: Civic Centre Enrique's on it. Has a great start.DONE! Houses Let's get these done. Very simple small houses, the size they are currently in the game (about the size of an Iberian or Briton house).DONE! Temple LordGood's temple is nearly done. Let's see if the model can be salvaged when imported. If not, it still serves as an excellent proof of concept.DONE! Barracks Fantastic direction established by LordGood. Design complete. Now to get it into the game. DONE! Mill & Farmstead Pureon A couple of decent sketches from a couple of artists. Still not close to being finalized. Dock LordGood's Sketchup model is great. Let's either get it into the game or use it as the basis for a Blender model.DONE! Walls, Gates, Wall Tower Pureon or Enrique We have a good direction established. Let's see if we can get them into the game. Market Again, LordGood has a good direction. Let's build on it. DONE! Special Structures: Elephant Stables The design is nearly complete. I think everything will need to be made taller for proper scaling with elephants.DONE! Stupa Wonder & Pillar of Ashoka Special Building Enrique Some good stuff happening here. Let's see if LordGood's model here can be salvaged. DONE! Mauryan UnitsVERY Important: Asian Elephant Zaggy and Enrique The current one either needs rigged, propped, and animated, or a new one modeled (done) (and rigged propped and animated) if the current model is inadequate. Heroes Chariots Enrique? Seem to be mostly done. Just need to get the hero textures done for the hero rider. Head Gear Pureon Turbans, jewelry, etc. for the various units in the game. Ships - Fishing Boat, Merchant Ship, Light Warship, Medium Warship Ndragu & Paperkat We're really far behind here, since we don't have very good reference images, I'm afraid. Ox Cart Trader Gen.Kenobi Need some oxen modeled, textured, and animated, and a cart for them.

I'm thinking these changes for Celtics, to differentiate Britons from Gauls:Britons Round defense towers (like the old old old Celtic towers from circa 2004) Gauls Blockhouses/Longhouses Both (along with Iberians) would get a Blacksmith building. Perhaps these can be differentiated slightly. Now, for Hellenics (Athenians, Spartans, Macedonians): Athenians Ionic Order columns and entablature. Spartans Doric Order columns and entablature. Macedonians Corinthian Order columns and entablature. I'm still not happy with the Hellenic market, but that can be reworked later.

Eggbird's first Civic Centre is excellent, and helped up jump-start the process of designing and developing the Mauryans. It also helped establish the direction of the look and feel of the architecture and textures. However, we've found a lot more reference images since then and have determined the current Civic Centre looks too much like a city gate, rather than a palace. Here are some new references, showing what we'd like to see for the Civic Centre: Building #4 below:

Haha, indeed. Though, it depends on context, eh?
