  1. greycat: What exactly are you arguing for? What change to the game are you advocating? The Britons in our game hail from around the time of Caesar, which as you indicated means there is evidence that they were Celtic at that time. Also, controversial theories from fringe authors shall not be entertained. The consensus of modern scholarship has been that the Britons of this time were Celts (or Celtic). So, that's how we are depicting them. About the terms "Celt" vs. "Gaul" or "Gallic," we are using the term "Gallic" and "Gaul" as a geographical notation. Nothing more. In a similar vein we are using "Iberian" to denote the peoples of Iberia, rather than a specific tribe.
  2. All right, let's go with round merlons. Good sleuthing. About the rails, this is the "Greco-Macedonian" era of Egypt, so there's no need to "Romanize" them. Maybe instead think of ways to incorporate some Greek elements?
  3. I don't like the wooden rails and the rounded merlons... But the general layout and direction is sound. Thoughts, Enrique? I don't like the wooden rails because we are likely to not see them in any other building and their design is kind of odd. Though, the rounded merlons don't look bad here: I think they are newer in style (Middle Ages) than the rectangular and triangular merlons of antiquity.
  4. Let's find sources a little newer than 1909.
  5. The obvious fix would be to make animals "dumber," meaning they only run away when struck, and then only a small distance and don't continue to run away without being struck. Basically, they wait around to be hit again after running a small distance. Makes sense.
  6. What if we did the horse "farm field" style, as a decal with stones around the edge of the horse to give it some 3Dness.
  7. How is this going? Stonehenge to commit? If so, please put "Fixes #2053" in the commit message! http://trac.wildfiregames.com/ticket/2053
  8. Hmm, not like these ones.I was hoping for maybe something more along the lines of the Mauryan or Persian barracks. With that in mind, I like Enrique's "better." It's up ro Enrique though, since he is Art Dept lead.
  9. I agree that a wolf would be a better symbol for Republican Rome. We could then use the eagle for Imperial Rome later (and then 2-headed eagle for Byzantines).
  10. The statue may have been something like this:
  11. Yeah, like the Athenians, Spartans, Macedonians.
  12. I was thinking 3 main Germanic factions. Alemanni/SuebiFranksGoths
  13. Considering priests just pop up out of nowhere from every other temple, I don't think it's an issue here.
  14. The Germans would definitely get brand new art, including buildings, props, shields, textures, etc. I was thinking their buildings would be mostly wooden, including their Fortress, which would be the least expensive (maybe 500 Wood) and weakest fortress in the game. Wooden walls, bigger than palisades, but not as strong as stone walls.
  15. That's not bad actually. Could replace the current temple or be a variation?
  16. There could be a rather simple way of addressing a few concerns, while adding some (minor) depth to the concept of formation combat. Since we'll probably slash the number of formations (and revamp how they are represented in the UI), we can also give some formations a couple of options, like this: Add Depth: Brings that "security" to the soldiers so they gain 100% of the armor buffs, but as Fexor points out, fewer of them are actually in combat and dealing less damage to the enemy. Add Width: Less stable and less secure, perhaps easier to "break", the soldiers only gain 50% of the armor buffs, but because more of the men are on the front lines they are dealing more damage to the enemy. Something like above gives some realistic mechanics to the depth of a battle formation. They would allow the player the option of security for his men or dealing more damage to the enemy. Also, keep in mind, soldiers being attacked on the sides of the formation won't just stand there and do nothing. They'll fight back, so in a lot of cases it's not just the front line dealing damage to the enemy.
