  1. Could make the units from the barracks train really fast, but be kind of weak (low Health points), while the Settler units are slightly more expensive than normal, but stronger health.
  2. The Seleucids built Hellenistic cities, so I think a Hellenistic architectural style would be best (though, I think we can go a little "Middle Eastern" for their storehouse and farmstead and maybe mixed styles for their houses).
  3. I already gave them 2 different barracks. The standard Barracks (for Egyptian, North African, and Middle-Eastern units), and then the Military Settlement or "Klēroukhia" (for Galatian and Macedonian units) which can be built in Neutral territory.
  4. For Seleucid buildings, Pergamene references would be just fine, since the "Seleucid" Wonder comes from Pergamon.
  5. Kush would definitely be a cool addition to the game, perhaps as a post-release FreeLC, but don't get your hopes up too high. The list of possible FreeLC civs is quite long and Gold release is still probably 2 years away (1 more year of alphas, 1 year of betas). It would still be cool to see some references and dream about what could be a fun civ.
  6. I'm not convinced it should be a big hill. I was envisioning something flat, but I'm willing to try it out first.
  7. Hey m8. Give me another 24 hours to test these out?
  8. We would never distribute damage across the entire formation. Even in Total War games each soldier is its own entity of sorts and takes and gives his own damage. We'd likely do formations like in Battle for Middle Earth 2, where they act mostly as a way of controlling large amounts of soldiers and keeping them look nice and neat and not so messy. I posit that the "mosh pit" approach to combat is a dead concept and no new RTS game should adopt it.
  9. I would think "Syrian" archers of the period would have a rather Hellenistic look to them. You're right though that these look a lot like Cretans (the Cretans hired themselves out to both the Ptolemies and Seleucids as mercenaries).
  10. Another idea I had was that since we're linking all the Hellenic civs together with the Theatron (and soon, all the Successor civs with the Library), we could link the Celtic civs together by giving them the Rotary Mill. Then, give the Gauls the "Tavern" and Gaesata "Naked Fanatics", since the Britons have the Kennel and the War Dogs.
  11. The Seleucids definitely had cataphracts. They didn't look like Parthian cataphracts from the 2nd c. AD, but they were still cataphracts: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seleucid_Army#Kataphraktoi http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Panium
  12. Finally, I can comment on the sounds. They are pretty good. One thing I think we forgot to mention is the duration we need for each type of sound. Basically, we need completion sounds to be no longer than 3 seconds. Selection sounds should be a short as possible (1 second), while still getting the point across. Here is a video that should help you understand:
  13. Definitely interested! You can PM me the zipped PDF or post the zipped PDF here in this thread.
  14. The Seleucids definitely used cataphracts at Magnesia and Panion. About the "Silver Shield Legionaire" from RTW, yeah, we're not going to use that unit. However, I do have a "Roman Thorakites" spec'd in the civ profile with "Romanized" equipment. http://trac.wildfire...iv%3A_Seleucids Seleucid King Antiochus IV had 5k bronze shield pikemen, 10k gold shield pikemen, 5k silver shield pikemen, and 5k troops equipped in the "Roman manner" at the Daphne parade in 166 BC. http://en.wikipedia....i/Seleucid_army
  15. Files don't seem to work for me and I can't seem to download them.
  16. Yeah, let's make an all-new Hellenistic building set for the Seleucids.Their Wonder:
  17. They're quite different already even at this early stage of their profile. Also, I've conceptually split the "Hellenistic" factions into two: The Greek States and The Successors. See here: http://play0ad.com/game-info/factions/ Long story short, each culture gets a common special building and special techs/bonuses. The "Greek States" or "Hellenic States" are Athens, Sparta, and Macedonia. The "Successors" are Macedonia, Seleucids, Ptolemies. See, the Macedonians are the bridge between the two, so get the special building and special tech of each one. Hellenics get the Theater, Successors get the Library, Macedonia gets both. If we ever add smaller factions, like Thebans and Epirotes, they'd be Hellenic and Successor cultures respectively. Oh yes. I'd love for them to get their own Hellenistic building set to make them stand out from the Hellenic States culture.
  18. Some discussion about the Seleucids. I have a draft civ profile up here: http://trac.wildfire...iv%3A_Seleucids Please check out the draft above and make suggestions for improvement.
  19. Best to move this discussion here: http://www.wildfiregames.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=16960&st=180
  20. They are, from left to right: 1. Bosporan Hoplite 2. Carthaginian Spearman 3. Late-Roman legionnaire or foederati. 4. Republican Roman infantry. Lots of different eras and places, none of them Ptolemies or Seleucids. Find more references though if you can. Can always use more.
  21. My biggest anger here is how hugely the gaming media hyped this game. If I can use a crass word, "whoring" comes to mind. The big time gaming media has 100% sold out to graphics and hype. So many pre-release reviews have given the game 90%+ ratings or 9s out of 10 it's sickening. With so many problems, the game is a 7 out of 10 and that's being generous based on the graphics and animations. Gotta keep those advertising dollars rolling. Never trust PC Gamer. Never trust any of those rags. And never ever ever pre-order a super-hyped AAA game at 70 bucks a pop based on the recommendation of commercial gaming media. Don't trust them.
