  1. Cavalry was always at the fore-front in every major historical battle. So, cavalry first, then infantry. Champions are tougher, so they maybe should be in front of CS in a formation. Another logic would be that CS are a good fodder, so we should place CS in front of champions. This is also more historically accurate, as many armies reserved their elite troops for later engagements, when the enemy was exhausted by "fodder".

  5. The logic of having cavalry in the back is to allow it to move through the sides. The problem of having it in the front is that you don't want to send your cavalry first into a spearmen shield wall (which is the dominant historical form). Move formation ("column" in napoleonian warfare) should have cavalry in the front but combat formation ("line") have it in the back. Except for specific formations, of course.

  6. You write: After looking at what I wrote, I see that a space was inserted in the command where it should not be (method 1, point 2, unnecessary space before ‘deb’): It is: dpkg -i ... libtiff5_4.2.0-1+deb11u7_amd64. deb ... It should be: libtiff5_4.2.0-1+deb11u7_amd64.deb I apologize – this is probably the cause of the dependency issues. I will correct it in the above post. As for the script editor, it displays for me (Mint 22.2 Live). Maybe the ‘wx’ library was installed incorrectly because of this ‘libtiff5’? Show what the commands display: dpkg -l fonts-freefont-ttf fonts-texgyre libboost-filesystem1.74.0 libenet7 libgloox18 libnvtt2 libicu67 libjpeg62-turbo libtiff5 libwebp6 libwxbase3.0-0v5 libwxgtk3.0-gtk3-0v5 dpkg -C Best regards raport_mint_22.2_2026-01-11.txt.zip

  7. Whew. Deicide4u- yes, youre not kidding! Zyli- thank you again. thats a lot of work! I started with the second method and could not get it to play even though it would load fully to the into screen. So I started from scratch again using the 1st method. I had a lot of the dependency files already downloaded but went thru your instructions exactly anyway. I kept getting dependency errors even though a few were fully downloaded and installed. Ken Wood v.23 fully loads and plays. Everything is installed in my working every day version of Mint 22.2 (not 3) Cinnamon. After a great deal of experimentation I was finally able to get all my customized scenarios and skirmishes transferred from the existing working version in Mint 20.3 It works! I would call this successful, but I now do not have the scenario editor. Error message states it failed to load or is not available. Check the logs. Ive checked the logs and see no reason why. Ive used the scenario editor extensively thru the years and even though it has always been buggy, It worked and served its purpose. So I will just go slow and keep trying to fix this next problem. There is a lot of help work and discussion in this thread. I hope it helps others as well and address a lot of these issues. BTW- again this is used in my new build- A Ryzen 9700x in a Asus B850-i, which is wreaking havoc, as usual, in the Mint communities.

  8. All illustrations depict the same event: Sanghamitta's arrival in Sri Lanka and the transport of the Bodhi Tree. This is a myth that is still very important today for some people, so one should not expect the illustrations to accurately represent historical reality. It should also be remembered that these representations have a nationalistic character. Sri Lanka is divided into two populations that are in conflict, one Buddhist and the other Hindu or Muslim. There is a Sinhalese artist called Prasanna Weerakkody who made some historical illustrations, some of them have been used already by 0AD team to modelize the ships. However, you should note that the event from Sri Lanka are not connected to the Mauryan empire:

  10. Seems like source/tools/i18n/update_templates.py contains a bug which includes leading and trailing line breaks and tabs when extracting strings from XML files. While a fix should be straight-forward, as we're in string freeze we want to pull the fix into main only and have a separate r28-only workaround for including line breaks and tabs when looking for translated strings from XML files.

  11. Why is Alexander being the strongest hero a problem? It's just one unit you're never gonna make again. Why are we hating on Greece so much? Also, this will make his bonus useless if he's trained by an AI, as the AI can't use formations right now. Don't take this the wrong way, the game definitely needs some changes. It's just that the changes you're promoting here are infinitesimal when compared to the actual problems plaguing it for years.

  12. What about the inclusion of two-handed swordsmen to the Mauryans? Arrian, Anabasis Alexandri: Book VIII (Indica), XVI. The Indians wear linen garments, as Nearchus says, the linen coming from the trees of which I have already made mention. This linen is either brighter than the whiteness of other linen, or the people's own blackness makes it appear unusually bright. They have a linen tunic to the middle of the calf, and for outer garments, one thrown round about their shoulders, and one wound round their heads. They wear ivory ear-rings, that is, the rich Indians; the common people do not use them. Nearchus writes that they dye their beards various colours; some therefore have these as white-looking as possible, others dark, others crimson, others purple, others grass-green. The more dignified Indians use sunshades against the summer heat. They have slippers of white skin, and these too made neatly; and the soles of their sandals are of different colours, and also high, so that the wearers seem taller. Indian war equipment differs; the infantry have a bow, of the height of the owner; this they poise on the ground, and set their left foot against it, and shoot thus; drawing the bowstring a very long way back; for their arrows are little short of three cubits, and nothing can stand against an arrow shot by an Indian archer, neither shield nor breastplate nor any strong armour. In their left hands they carry small shields of untanned hide, narrower than their bearers, but not much shorter. Some have javelins in place of bows. All carry a broad scimitar, its length not under three cubits; and this, when they have a hand-to-hand fight -- and Indians do not readily fight so among themselves -- they bring down with both hands in smiting, so that the stroke may be an effective one. Their horsemen have two javelins, like lances, and a small shield smaller than the infantry's. The horses have no saddles, nor do they use Greek bits nor any like the Celtic bits, but round the end of the horses' mouths they have an untanned stitched rein fitted; in this they have fitted, on the inner side, bronze or iron spikes, but rather blunted; the rich people have ivory spikes; within the mouth of the horses is a bit, like a spit, to either end of which the reins are attached. Then when they tighten the reins this bit masters the horse, and the spikes, being attached thereto, pr1ck the horse and compel it to obey the rein.
