  1. See here for related discussion. I've started working on a concept for our user interfaces and will showcase some of the new layouts below. The new theme will be rolled out throughout the game, but will not influence the in-game HUD, the main menu screen, or the new website design for now. I'm going to focus on the windows that need the most work. Here are some windows using the existing UI theme: **** Work in Progress warning **** Here are the windows using the new UI theme: On flat white and black backgrounds: Thoughts: I focused on making the design more modern, clean, and legible. The thick gold frames are gone, being replaced by a solid top frame with an optional title area, and a lower 'weight' frame to hold it in place. This somewhat resembles the structure of a Roman Standard flag. I'm using a temporary background pattern texture that comes with Adobe Photoshop for now just to quicken the design process, but this will be replaced with a compliant texture. That's it for now. Hope you guys like it!

  2. Quercus is a good bet, I think. The reasoning behind it, as explained by ltms is quite convincing.

  3. I support Quercus. I sounds the best to me and has the most interesting meaning IMHO. (As long the people don't confuse it with Querolus (which is a Latin comedy) )

  4. I would say the year has got quite a small relation to 0 A.D. or this release. If it would have been the only release this year maybe, or the fourteenth release, but imho not in this case.

  5. The five years is since we went open source in 2009, so while it's not perfect it's certainly an option.

  6. During the last meeting we also agreed this idea was good. IMO there are not many differences between the two ideas: they both focus on the development state (it's been 5 years / we're mature and we have mods) and not on the gameplay, which is logical because of the lack of one big feature. To me Quercus just sounds prettier, but obviously not everyone will agree, it's a personal feeling. And I'd disagree about "Expanding the modability of the engine can happen every day of the week", the mod selector is one huge change in the process of separating pyrogenesis from 0ad.

  7. I'm all for audio cues for most GUI events, as long as there is a way to turn them off (e.g. a GUI volume control, though for more annoying/repetitive sounds, individual settings might be good).

  8. How about a choir of the lobby moderators singing "New Game Available"? Seriously awesome idea! It would fix the main issue that made me not wanting to play over the past few months. It could also have a disable button in the lobby for those not liking it.

  9. Simple: put it in, and put in an option to turn it off. Who knows, some people might actually load slow enough to justify it's existence.
