  1. A recurring design I see for Germanic clothing is the wide/large stripes or bands of color on their tunics and pants. That would definitely be something we'd carry through with our unit textures. Also, capes. I think all buildings would be wood, even the fortress. They'd get no stone walls, but their palisade walls would come with maybe 1 or 2 techs to make them stronger or built faster. Attached is some old Germanic concept artwork from way back during the infancy of Wildfire Games.

  4. I think I'm going to keep it as is, and hope nobody builds their marketplaces on mountainsides I changed the ground texture to cobble so the well doesnt look too out of place, and give it a nice light value for contrast with the dark beams looks a bit better on grass fixed the stretching too

  5. If you can make each tent a separate prop, making them adjust to the terrain is only a few edits in the actor file. Of course, it's up to you if you want it or not.

  6. I was wondering what opinions my fellow 0ad-ers hold on SteamOS so I'm starting this topic. I haven't been able to try it, but I've been reading a LOT of articles about it, and I'm quite impressed (see Phoronix). My opinion: I think it's going to change the console market and (I hope) break the release cycle that always put me off (I've never had a console for that reason). So I'm definitely going for a Steam Box next year. I'm afraid that not enough people will choose to buy a Steambox or switch to linux because there are no exclusives. I also think it's wrong to have exclusives. What I would love is Linux-only DLC's (preferably referencing TUX!!! and other typically linux things ... like ... darn, I've got no clue) that would be a small incentive that would not have people getting angry because they 'Only released Half Life 3 on Linux/SteamOS' and would make native South Pole inhabitants feel proud of their favourite penguin getting a world tour. Every week more games are being released on Linux, it's getting hard to keep track. Some really amazing games already came out (Portal, Metro, Sam, Painkiller, ...) and others are said to be coming (XCOM, Civ, Battlefield 4, ...) so Valve has definitely already made a lot of ripples, now I'm just wishing they can cause a tectonic shift in the gaming world, entailed by a tsunami of games being ported and developed for Linux. I'm also looking forward to seeing 0 A.D. on Steam one day :-) I'm curious to read your opinions!

  7. I don't think we'd need to do controller support actually, I think the steam controller is supposed to be able to act as a mouse for games that don't have controller support. And I think we should wait with greenlight until we're out of alpha - personally. Things I think we need finished before trying greenlight (in order of importance): -Multiplayer lobby -Multi-core support -Performance increase -More victory conditions -Egyptian factions finished And we should do another kickstarter during the greenlight because we'll attract much more supporters then.

  8. Agreed. This is the desired behavior.

  9. I think eventually we will want placed foundations to be invisible to enemies until construction starts so then you wouldn't be able to attack them.

  10. Also...The only time I have heard of it being a problem in Germany was with WWII games, because it is directly depicting the Nazi party.

  11. Adding territory now requires a much bigger investment than without it. You have to build a CC first (500w + 500s + 500m), and then you need to defend it with fortresses to defend your resources there. Whereas without territory, you could just defend it with fortresses, but the defense wouldn't be very effective, as the opponent can just build a fortress next to it. Btw, it's quite easy to disable it. Just get rid of all mentions of "TerritoryInfluence", "TerritoryDecay" and set the BuildRestrictions Territory flag to "neutral".

  12. That sounds pretty sensible. I have mentioned your suggestion to the people who control website stuff so it won't just get lost in this thread.

  13. I think you should use some texture on the black (and not use true black color at the right) it would make the sig, much better looking.

  14. Once another player controls the center of the map, they get the upper hand over the others. It provides economic and military extension, and creates better trading opportunities The battle for central territory becomes quite a core element, especially in multiplayer

  15. I think it would be good if we could expand the market system a bit. Instead of only being able to traverse between two points make it so that it can travel between multiple docks/markets (and have a small bonus). There would have to be some sort of restrictions in place to prevent abuse cases though. Only able to travel to a certain number of trade points per player perhaps? (2 markets 1 dock per player?) A distance requirement similar to the civic centre might work too. That would also reward people who had larger empires more. I suspect that this one is could still be prone to abuse though so i tend to favour the limiting number of points per player

  17. We've had this suggestion a few times, but it's hard to do as we have some problems with our animations. If we want to add a new animation, we have to redo all animations for that unit, as the originals are lost. And it requires some programming work too.

  18. Who exactly would "open" such a trial? German gov't prosecutors? Would they want to waste finite resources on a frivolous case that is likely to be thrown out?
