Home Screen Panel and GUI textures

One of my pet peeves with the game is the outdated look of the Home screen selection panel. I think it only looks outdated because of the dull dark grey tiled texture which is neutral enough, but pretty bland... I put a number of textures to your disposal here, (all CC0), and if you like any of them, please consider using them to jazz up the home screen, or any other element of the GUI. I don't know exactly what the changes are to the GUI for Alpha 23, but I suspect one of these textures would go well with all the other exciting new updates to get an all round new-ish look.

Of course you might want to play around with contrast/colour/transparency settings etc (I did), to get the ideal look. Some of these textures would look supercool with a bit of translucency, so you'd see the background painting moving behind it.

Although I'm not very fond of the current texture either, I don't think any of the ones you proposed would be an improvement. Perhaps you could design a Ionic column, a purple cloth, or a papyrus scroll instead?

The text isn't well read, the blue background is too opposite for the gold logo. Also I think, it'd be good to have a background with "historic"/"game" style, not the abstract one. IMHO.

I think using anything recognizable will make it look old. The trend is now Material so we could go for something like that with our own colors. But I believe this will break the immersion as our game isnt supposed to be a web game.

The rule "material is the trend" is the rule only for copy-paste games. A game can have own designed solution. So I suggest to not exactly follow trends, but to design good view.

Agreed. Plus looking at history it will have long changed when we release beta X)

First rule, readability over aesthetic.

Must be functional before being 

The texture you selected , get  too much noise contrasting with simply font.

The golden/Bronze logo of the game isn't easy to distinct. don't have good contrast or harmonies.

Some examples. I saved this because I believe the GUI will be changed... the icons, textures, font, style, all careful selected. no by random.

The contrast between blue and papyre/stone. the only thing I don't like is that white  font vs that blue.

 

Check this buttons and style, isn't bad.
