0 A.D. Social Media Accounts (We need you!)
Nicolaus_von_Kues replied to Sundiata's topic in Announcements / News
The problem is that forums have been abandoned, as developers nowadays mostly interact through social media and Discord. We used to have a more varied internet. -
Are you saying that culturally they were more dressed?

By "turreted" I guess you mean the people on deck (even in cases where there are no real turrets there, I've stated many times around that this is an misnomer, and that "posted" works better in general). What I said is about the people on deck, so we are talking about the same thing. They shouldn't have a range bonus, unless there's an actual tower in the ship (which only the bigger ships have), and shouldn't be too much anyway. In theory yes, and have more range, but its accuracy could be reduced, since the ship moves. That's why catapults were used in the bigger ships, not only because of more space, but stability.
-
Yes, maybe champions and cavalry units sink, but all others can swim The range bonus is for the turreted units, not the boat. Or maybe I don't understand what you are saying, could you explain please Shouldn't it do 200 some damage then, like the bolt shooter does I agree, I think the more you garrison, the more fire power it should have at close range

Why? That would deviate from their representations, wouldn't it? Why do you want to either cover or remove women (either these units or proposed Heroes) from the game? Shouldn't the game be even closer to those representations? If not, why, exactly?
-
I said 0ad should give them more clothes in the game.

Here a commentary on what has evidence and what seems to be "modern iconography's insistence": https://stefanosskarmintzos.wordpress.com/2012/01/16/the-thespians. Given that campaigns took place mostly in summer, I don't think all black would have been a smart choice under the Greek sun. Which is sad because they do look nice
-
Where is your proof? Look how they are represented: Maybe they should look more like that in the game, what do you think?
-
No, you aren't. You can also read a few comments back:

I was wrong about the direct Greek genealogy, it is weird how under these circumstances the Carthaginians fashioned a lot of their architecture after Greek and Roman designs. They even fought using similar formations as the Greeks. P.s thank you for correcting my error.
-
I'm only aligned for making a historically correct game, can you honestly say that what I have said is wrong? what is your proof?
-
I think some nations should be made significantly better than others; this would be based on the accomplishments each civ made in history like Rome might get a rating of 10, and Kush would get a rating of let's say 3 ( this is not exact ), and the rating would impact the performance of the civ during the game.
-
They do as much as some male Heroes included in the game, yet I don't see you complaining about them. You just joined and half of your 8 posts are against female units or Heroes, so it's pretty clear where you come from.
-
These people didn't play a big enough role in history to justify including them in this game

Game Balance: Battering Rams, the 0 A.D. tanks?...
Helpinghand replied to krt0143's topic in Gameplay Discussion
I totally agree with you! I've noticed the same thing; it's either rams or elephants, nothing else has the armor and destructive capability to get past the towers, and fortresses of the already too difficult ai. I think what we should do is put something that makes building champion-normal soldiers more rewarding, and also change the difficulty of the ai for the better. In ancient times when Macedonia wanted to conquer Persia; they didn't build 200 rams and launch them straight for the civic centers. I think the defense towers and fortresses make sending soldiers into enemy territory too hard, we should weaken the destructive capabilities of those obstacles. -
Possible Mod Idea: Nabataeans/Lihyanites

The graphics look good (for the most part) BUT Whenever you select a unit, you get a picture of it and those could definitely be improved
-
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vishakanya This is the wikipedia page, these people mainly got popularity through old legends rather than actual accomplishments. If they have to stay in the game I would make them way weaker ( more realistic ) and way more clothed
-
I could(busy right now) but it is a know fact

I know three important accounts about them: Battle of Thermopylae (480 BC), Battle of Delium (424 BC) and Battle of Nemea (394 BC) In the three, there is no mention of their panoply. The best we have is Thermopylae where Herodotus does not detail the Thespians' armor separately from the rest of the Greeks. He describes the Greek forces collectively using long spears and shields. During the final stand, he notes that after their spears broke, the remaining defenders (including the 700 Thespians) fought with swords (xiphē), and eventually with their bare hands and teeth.

according to understanding the new programming languages would make it easier to create a game from 0.
-
Is there any evidence of them being swordsmen?

And that's fine, because as @real_tabasco_sauce says, you don't want all your ships to be ranged units when garrisoned. Besides, shooting while on a ship is harder than from land, so that bonus is misplaced (maybe only if you consider ship towers). In any case, "arrow ships" were never a thing, this is a unit copied from Age of Empires, and Naval Oxybeles is a tech copied from Age of Mythology, when that's just mounting an oxybeles on a ship (fixing all that would enhance the game). I think one should consider the "arrow ship" as a ship with an oxybeles, with a decent range, and just remove that tech (besides, "siege ships" are usually equipped with a lithobolos). Additionally, one could have some light close ranged attack if ships are garrisoned, since realistically this should affect mostly crews, not ships (but right now the game doesn't deal with that, which I think it should, for both ships and sieges, to enhance the game further). There are many more things to be said about ships, but later on. Regarding swimming, some could, but not heavy troops.

Nobody ever remembers the Gracchi brothers.

https://en.subalternosblog.com/post/collegiati-the-gangsters-of-ancient-rome I can think of a couple of units and technologies based on these ideas. https://www.zmescience.com/feature-post/history-and-humanities/history/roman-collegia-ancient-corporations/ https://www.romanports.org/en/articles/ports-in-focus/563-the-collegium-the-roman-guild.html
