How did the string "ASAP" develop?

I believe it means 'As Soon As Possible'.

Might have started from a military area, many times I hear "we're taking heavy fire, bring in those renforcements A-Sap". Where they make it almost like a word itself, A-Sap, instead of a four syllable asap.

As for who and where, I do not know. But I will look around. (y)
