bowen951209 Posted Tuesday at 13:03 Share Posted Tuesday at 13:03 Hi there. I noticed that some pages on play0ad.com are outdated. For example, https://play0ad.com/community/participate/ still tells us to use trac and SVN, but apparently it's been moved to Gitea. https://play0ad.com/game-info/project-overview/ says that 0ad is still in alpha, but there is a release now. Is play0ad.com managed internally, or there is a public repository where we can submit updates to those outdated pages? Thank you.

I am not certain though

Stan` Posted Tuesday at 22:48 Share Posted Tuesday at 22:48 That's the last time it was versioned. I'm not quite sure how it is versioned, but it's something that could be looked into i guess, if there is any interest.
ShadowOfHassen Posted Tuesday at 23:07 Share Posted Tuesday at 23:07 (edited) Could we change the website to one of those static sites that uses a git instance to host it so we could just make changes there to update the website? We could but IIRC it was decided against . Could be reevaluated. The main issue was it was harder for non technical people to get changes in. Something I'd want to is to be able to translate it Couldn't find it

If needed I would like to help in this direction, it been months I think about it, (Since an Issue where someone provided a very nice design and vanish xD) Having a static site could be managed directly via Gitea, and lot of static framework are compatible with CMS like Sveltia https://sveltiacms.app/en/ (git CMS, successor of Decap CMS, actively maintened, authentification via gitea possible, every post / page is a MD file, with a media manager, i'm not related to this, but it was my nicest discovery this year, and could be "the user-friendly" missing link) The current site is pretty much "static", in the way it doesnt have any dynamic formulaire/ comment etc, and migrating in a static site could prevent drama like last week (big vulnerability on PHP) improve performance and the "server side" would be lighter I am bad as UI to make a nice design but for making a skeleton app and migrate from WP, I Could help, in fact if you can provide me an export (xml), I could work on convert to Markdown and so far. When the data are extracted and stored, is pretty easy to migrate to any other framework, Hugo, Zola, Astro ... (I hate WP, I use it actually for work and he drive me crazy) edit: > Something I'd want to is to be able to translate it Not tested, but Sveltia provide multilingual support : https://sveltiacms.app/en/features/i18n Edited Wednesday at 09:48 by eZamus add multilingual link

Asher Posted Thursday at 11:31 Share Posted Thursday at 11:31 Maybe what we could do, is make a site hosted separately from play0ad.com, and then when we complete it, we can have some people review it, and then we can make that the new 0ad website. @bowen951209, you started this thread, is there any specific things you wanted to add or change, or just the things you mentioned in your first post? Maybe we could make a play off all the changes we want, then we start. Also, I am wondering if we should just start over, because I at least am not understanding how the current website setup works, unless someone could explain it to me
Asher Posted Thursday at 13:30 Share Posted Thursday at 13:30 I made a github repo: https://github.com/Jeff-web-sketch/0adwebsite. I you guys want to make your own, that is fine. But moving to a new site is worth a try. There shouldn't be many texts to update on play0ad.com. Most of the pages are news archives.

Sure, we could do that. Unless we would want to start over and make a new website, because that one is 14 years old. Either is fine

That why I suggested/mentionned Sveltia CMS, which basically add a CMS backend based on Git to a static site. using Gitea Credentials/permissions, he provide a wysiwyg editor, and it handle all the commit/push side, allow using "review" (Aka Pull Request) ... it's neat

Like the news pages and releases? Cuz it might just be easier to update the git site when we want to update it
