Justin7
For the farmer fields it would be nice to see a mouse tooltip about how many workers. So I see were to assign more workers. Another idea would be if workers are assigned to a farmer field and it is overcrowded then workers automatically select to work on another farmer field nearby if available. e.g. I have 20 workers and assign all to one farmer field out of 4 then workers dispatch to all 4 fields nearby. Grautvornix
If you simply select(left-click) the field, you will see in the center part various stats including the number of activer wokers out of the max number (next to the hammer symbol), e.g. 4/5. Same for any other resources (e.g. mines, trees, stone quarries). Regarding the "overflow" I usually assign wokers to one filed and with the "shift"-key pressed (next task) right-click on to further fields, one after another so that excess workers would go and work on the next field if one is already full. I have to admit that this is probably not very elegant but it works.
Classic-Burger
The ideal would be a button or command to assign them automatically.

A problem I found with this is when the farm fields still need to be built: All 30 women would go build each of the 6 fields, and they would go gather by group of 5 only when all fields are built. It would be better if 5 women stay and gather directly on the first field, and so on for each field.

Building multiple defense towers poses a similar problem, where an automatically garrisoning could be great. The big issues is the number of garrisoning/working slots to be filled. Shall it be a full take or maybe just two soldiers/workers each?
Grautvornix
Personnally I prefer a full crew (I know that while for towers this makes sense, for fields, the efficiency degrades the more workers are on a field). But this is not about providing for best efficiency but to assign workers automatically to populate a building or field.

(alt by default) Imagine u have 4 farms to be built and you have 20 women. 1. Select your 20 women and right click on the first farm to be built. 2. Alt(order one unit)+click 5 times to the next farm 3. Repeat this to the other two farms yet to be built. This way your women will go 5 by 5 to build the targeted farm instead of go the 20 women build the 4 farms before start gathering food from them 1
Dakara
The system is good, and woman already spread themself, you can use alt , plus the unit counter of unit track the number of units farming food. 5/10/15/20/25/30/35/40/45/50/55/
