  1. Yep, Numenor was largely based on Atlantis, just like the Rohirrim were based on Viking/Barbaric People.

Ok, ontopic here's most of my thoughts (without much exploration in each)

Pyramids - Either the common tendency of large structures like Klass said, or outer-world influence and thus the similar ideas. Not saying aliens, but let's say there was a constellation of stars that looked like a pyramid and civilizations across the world saw it and tried to imitate it. I don't rule out the alien theory either!

Sphinx - Don't really care for it, so I'll just say: Egyptians did it.

Atlantis - Even thought I have a feeling it never existed I still like to believe in it.

But not stuff like flying cars and so on, just really intelligent beings. Also, I like to think that it might have been aliens living on earth, but as humans evolved and began to not see them as gods but more as invaders they abondened and covered up their city and left. Thus it also explains many alien influence like pyramids... but this leaks into my imaginative side quite a bit.

Then minor mysteries I have little clue to are:

Hun and Mongolian similarities. Both came west to conquer many lands. Both originiated in pretty much the same area, just kinda weird conincidence.

The drastic Mayan population decrease in 900 A.D. period. I guess some type of disease.

  2. Gamespy, I get GameSpy Daily every day. It decides which demos I download, which trailers I watch. Which reviews I read. I like it because when it doesn't have much info, it still gives me links to other gaming sites with their screenshots and reviews.

But in the magazine realm, which I only buy when I see in the shelves, my decision is stuck between PC Gamer and Electronic Gaming Monthly. But I guess Electronic because it's more general and gives me more info on console games.

  3. Well, more than a week is up since last time I posted a ETH poll, so here's a new one... I will prolly, instead of doing another movie review, put up another poll because I'm tired of movie reviews (they're more work).

But this review is because I've had a disscussion with a RL friend of mine who doesn't like GameSpy (my vote) so I decided it'd be cool to see where ppl learn of events in the Gaming World. If you don't use any, then just don't vote (or for the one you would most likely use). I know, the list is pretty narrow because I tried to squish sites and magazines into one poll, so you'll just have to deal with other.

Of course, explanation would be cool, and if you vote other could you state which. Like a magazine from another country I have no way to put in there...

  4. I liked Tale of Minothar a lot, though I never trully played it but I still liked what I played. Oh yea, Minas Dragon was pretty good. I thought it was too dirty looking (if it's the one I remember) but it was still very well made.

another acomplishment Klass helped me remember is:

Gladiator, it got a 1.4, ppl hated it, I agreed with them but I still managed to get 1600 downloads! It tells you just how much a good title does for a scn... Tribes of War, my best scn is still 200 downloads away from beating my worse scn. (I kinda wish I never released it)

The other is that Silent Howl was finished within 6 hours on a day I faked sick to miss school (I don't encourage my behaviours, but I don't hide from them. And I'm the best of my class so I don't feel guilty) But I thought the spark to finish a scenario in so short time was a pretty big acomplishment for me. The Elven Tales has been in development for almost 1 year, but it would prolly take me a week if I really worked on it like I did on Howl.

  5. I don't think sindarin or quenya will give us good names for the blades, they are modern and 'cool' more related to D&D stuff than actual Tolkien. So I say we get creative and call them Spear Blades... hehe

  6. Yea, that pick just loaded to me. I think the bigger problem is the lack of quality for spreading it over the entire site, maybe if you get something with a higher resolutions so it's not stretched that much.

  7. Did you come up with the background or was it a template. Because either way that rocks. I really love the background, though it doesn't seem to fit Tolkien very well, maybe the movies could work fine. Seems a bit too modern, but very good looking nonetheless.

  8. I can't speak from experience, but I think cheez's strategy looks promising. Instead of stopping at once (unless you lock yourself in a file cabinet for 2 months) you could try lowering your addiction, maybe when you're down to 1-2 cigaretts a day (if you can get there) it might be easier to stop. But I don't know, either way good luck.

(there is always a light at the end of the tunnel, but it's either the opening or a train)

  9. I designed "Clans of War" which got me 5/5 in map design, and later I improved the map design as well as the whole scn with "Tribes of War" which got into Best of AoK.

I designed "Silent Howl" which a lot of ppl liked, even if it didn't get the best reviews.

I designed "The Fall of the Roman Empire" which was overall a failure as a scenario, but my first historical scenario and I liked it.

Not released, but I've developed/semi-developed two scenarios:

"The Hunter's Tale" had an amazing depth to the point I had made. Characters were upgraded as the player chosee by buying HP and attack upgrades with stone which was awared based on fighting. Everything had something unique to it. Every building could be entered, and upon entering the inside is described. Overall, I did not even finish 1/12 of the map, but had close to 400 triggers. You can tell why I gave it up :P Also, it was based on a mod and ppl don't like scns based on mods.

The other is still under slow development "The Elven Tales" which is a pretty classic fantasy RPG for AoK (so far all my scns are for AoK) but a fairly high quality one. But whether I will ever finish it or not, I don't know. It's still pretty ambitious, specially since my designing fire for AoK has died down.

  10. It can be used for cutscenes and controlled enviroments. But yes, units would be able to walk through it I'm sure.

I already expressed some of the my thoughts, and I will repeat that I love the Marllorns! I was afraid for TLA because so far all the towers are epic master pieces, and I feared the flet would be a tree-house (which was the only way I saw it) but this is a great idea. I love it... beginning to seep too much into TLA stuff so I'll leave it at this :P

  11. Also, isn't that what the media is supposed to do? Tap on your emotions, isn't the "urges" part of our human emotion. Just as chick flicks are meant to make girls cry, action movies are meant to make ppl thrilled and scary movies are meant to scare people.

And as for language, I agree with Mythos! Great post...

  12. Kill Bill Vol. I

Written and Directed by Quentin Tarantino

Uma Thurman, Lucy Liu and David Carradine

NewEth Review: Well, I'll just change the ratings. Most of the text is still valid, but in order to give it proper ratings to my new sysem some might not match... If the text says "I give it a 10!" but the rating is a 6, then that's why, I orginaly gave it a 10, but I stand behind the new score.

    Watch Ability – 7

This movie had a lot of action, which makes it cool to watch another time. But there is one thing that keeps you from watching it constantly, the violence. I really never though violence would ever be a problem in any movie, but this is the first one that made me cringe. But nonetheless, once you get past the violence you’ll realize it’s a cool movie.

    Genre Quality – 9

It’s hard to define the genre of Kill Bill, it’s action for one part, and it fully completes that. I’d say the best way to describe it is a Vengeance movie, and there it fair very well. But since it’s a not very defined genre, and quality sometimes drops (I think it’s done on purpose) to create style, I won’t venture into top numbers.

    Originality – 8

Here Kill Bill deserves a 10. True, it bases itself on the old kung fu B movies from the 70s, with it a kind of action missing in today’s movies is brought to life again. They manage to have a hack and slash movie with the main story being revenge, and it doesn’t feel like it’s been done before. It feels like Kill Bill is Tarantino’s own playground, and you’re his toy. He makes you cringe, cheer and laugh without losing consistency (usually). Bravo!

    Acting – 8

The acting was well done. I have no complaints. The characters are varied enough to give each actor a unique personality to work with. And Uma Thurman seems like a determined killer, yet her human factors still seem to be there. Agony and pain are two emotions well acted in this movie. I give acting a 9.

    Plot/Story – 6

I found Kill Bill to have a impressive and striking (not to mention memorable) way to tell it’s story. By jumping back through time as if it were chapters of a book your mind is constantly putting different parts of the plot together, which makes you remember it better. I only wish the story it played out was as impressive. It’s simple, harm was done to her and she wants revenge and seeks down all the different ‘bosses’ that will get her to Bill. Nothing overly special, but it was told in a unique way.

    Music/Songs – 8(new category)

I must say the sound in Kill Bill can gain no complaint, but the music was, for lack of a better word, oddly chosen. Some of the music was extremely annoying (whistling tunes) and others just seemed inappropriate but all contribute to the feeling of the movie (a 70s american kung fu movie). The theme music is extremely good, but the choice for the other songs just seemed odd, to odd in some cases.

    Trailer - 8

    Overall – 7.6

This movie was a blood fiesta, so may be too heavy for some. But once you get past the extreme amount of violence, or if it does not matter to you, then Kill Bill offers a very unique experience. But like all unique experiences, you may love it or detest it. I’m leaning toward love, though to be more accurate I could say I enjoyed it.

(Changes to the review system since they appeared in ETH Ultimatium #1 – Matrix:

    - Added the music/song category, which needed to be added for Kill Bill.

    - I gave myself the liberty of adding or subtracting .1 of the final score to better show my overall view (instead of just being a mathematical overall)

  13. www.troymovie.com

Peter Jackson!!! That's who we thank for this movie, it's what he did with LotR that caused major companies to finance war movies like this one and the other Troy movie. Just as the Wachowski brothers creation caused many to follow in their footsteps, let's hope those who follow in PJ footsteps leave amazing classics!

And this goes to the ppl who would know, but to me that legion of ships seems too big? Is it historically accurate or just enhanced for visual power?
