  1. No!

By a long run (IMO of course).

I picked it up today and received a series of dissapointments...

from odd british dialogue (not talking about accents, the actual voice acting)

to awkward gameplay (constricted enviroments, foncusing controls and targeting system)

I must admit that graphically (or at least artistically) is brilliant. A few things I found less than amazing were the light blurr (but it adds to the feel of the game), lip-sync (horrible) and the flickering shadows on character faces.

But my complaints lie solely on gameplay and choice... the story seems lacking, quests have no back story. You simply choose between two quests "Attack the Orchard Farm" or "Protect the Orchard Farm". No background of who these bandits are, or why this is all of the sudden offered to you.

    Dissapointment sucks!

  2. All games die by hype... those that don't... it's because there was not enough hype. Half Life 2... will die. Fable... will die. Halo 2... (pains me to say)... will die. Well, die is a bad word... It'll lose the brilliance it has now, since we are each imagining something perfect (but in the real world there is nothing perfect - for all of us). Now, just because they don't live up to the hype doesn't mean they are bad games... I dunno, just babbling. Should be going to bed :wine:

  3. It has come to an end. But what a journey it was, from level 1 to 20. Mulgore, Thunder Bluff, Golden Plains, Camp Taurajo, The Barrens, The Crossroads, Rachet and finally deep into the Wailing Caves.

The last area needs special mention as I got to see the use of instance servers (basically loads the area on a special part of the server just for you and your team) and it means that the entire area (which is beautifully bump-mapped and designed) is all yours and no one will come walking by and steal your kills.

Here's my character through the ages

In Thunder Bluff, overlooking the Golden Plains and Bloodhoof Village in the distance. I'm level 10 and the largest groups I've been in are only me and someone else.

Then for my teens I left Mulgore (the Tauren homeland) and moved further in to meet my counsins the orcs and undead. The Barrens at first seemed boring and desolate and I wanted nothing else but to outgrow them and move on to a more interesting area.

Then I ventured with a group into the Wailing Caves to do the last few quests before the Stress Test ended. Unfortunently I did not have the wits to take screens of the area and you can only see my guy after he left. This actually is taken in Mulgore, when I was returning to my homelands to log of for the last time *cries*

  4. My opinions:

First, amazing flash presentation. Wheter true or not I really am in awe at the effect it does.

Now I don't really believe in this, as much as I believe in aliens cover-up or the illuminati (well, maybe slightly more believable and real, if for no other reason, because it's current) but I do find it fun. And since no evidence is solid to the most, no witness can be trusted by all, no theory will fit perfectly it'll never die and will never gain full life.

But then, this government has had conspiracy theories that have come through... like the Pentagon Papers thing about vietnam.... but those theories come from more than .jpegs and .avis floating around the web.

Still it was fun to watch, and whether true or not there's not much I can do about it so I'll believe it, realizing that it's my desire for excitment and real life conspiracies that make me belive it. To be honest (and please don't take offense) your uncle seems to take the same path the video does (now, I realize that he probably has dealt with this before and thus his reaction is a bit less open-minded, since he's gone through this so often) and of course, the video takes extremist mentality far. Choosing to make questions and not answer anything. But I'm sure that's what they wanted

I like to believe in the possibility of it being true, but if I was to bet my life on it I'd probably go with it being false.

  5. Morrowind is not really big imo... I mean, it's detailed but rather "local". And I haven't fully explored WoW yet (actually, I'm gonna work on some size research)

Ok, right now I'm in Bloodhoof Village and I walked (well ran) my way to Thunder Bluff City... It took 3 minutes, not that much really. This map shows the path:

    http://www.wildfiregames.com/~elfthehunter...r/Regionmap.jpg

(and yes, that green area is all that I have explored of WoW...)

Here's the physical size, Thunder Bluff happens to be at the top of a huge cliff mesa so I brought my guy as close to the edge to get a glimpse of Bloodhoof where I had come from... you can barely see the bridge and one of the buildings that makes up Bloofhoof (there's about 10-30 buildings in Bloodhoof)

Anyway, then to compare that to the rest of the world I begun zooming out in the map... here's the continent map (with Mulgore, the region containing Bloodhoof and Thuder Bluff and related camps/areas, highlighted)

    http://www.wildfiregames.com/~elfthehunter...ontinentmap.jpg

And there's another full continent, and I'm guessing maybe some islands... here's the final zoom World map view:

And a final shot of my awesome Tauren...

Maybe it's not that big, but it's a lot bigger than Everquest (and the game is still in beta, no expansion packs yet)

  6. If new, the game will be the same as other games (40-50$) and the subscription can vary immensily... I think everquest had the stable price of 10-15$ for three months, or was it per month? Wow, just googled it and it is 12.95 per month!

World of WarCraft admits they'll charge a fee (I saw the credit card page of the account creation when I signed up for my account, it was disabled but all in place for when the game is released) but they don't mention any actual fees.

    Same deal for EverQuest 2.

And then Guild Wars promises no monthly fees ever, on a persistent MMORPG like any other.

  7. Haven't played Ashron so I dunno. Actually, one thing that has impressed me so far in WoW, is that the world seems huge!!! It really feels like this is a massive world. I don't think I know enough of the game to make a full judgement on it, but I don't think it sets a new standard in MMO. Planetside for example I loved because it broke the mold, WoW doesn't try to break the mold. It just tries to be a really good MMO (and it is). The question imo is can it stand up to the graphics of EQ2 or the lack of fees of Guild Wars (yes!, Guild Wars will be the first - i think - MMO that does not require any sort of fees other than the purchasing of the game). Go to their site and check it out.

  8. Yes... I was only able to start playing at 5:00 (er, 5:00 in their timezone, 6:00 in mine). It's quite fun, a bit dissapointing (I guess MMO will always seem messy) but so far I've only soloed up to level 5... I guess it'll become EverQrack addictive once I start working in parties and fighting with friends.

Just in case ppl are wondering (if anyone else has the stress test) my character is:

    Bosk

    Tauren, Warrior

    Sageras Server

It's a pretty neat game so far, but haven't really played it long enough to judge for sure... the graphics are of course dissapointing, but even though it's a stress test I haven't experience any lag, at max settings (then my comp does run Doom 3).

*wonders if characters can change servers... * that would be cool

  9. Wow, that robot stuff is impressive!

but as long as we're supposed to be spitting ideas out:

A Virtual Ecosystem, create a landscape (not 3d, not necessery) just the data and information about the size, the elevation, the terrain and whatever you deem necessery to have it all plotted into the computer... create identidies (animals, I would choose dinosaurs or custom alien animals) and give them properties (cannivorous, height, strength, etc) and program them so they know how to live... Thus when you start the program the creatures will live in the enviroment, hunting when hungry, sleeping, dying, reproducing and everything. You can then find stats on each creature after 20 years of whatever and basically find out what state your enviroment is in.

Now I'm not quite sure how difficult that would be, maybe making it 3d or using some sort of display would make it look cooler (and harder) but it's just an idea :P

  10. I can easily complain about the butchering PJ did to LotR (Faramir, Helm's Deep Elves, Anduril, Sauron's Eye...etc) and I could also easily defend him from the TLA folk - heh, he'll get no other defense in there (hehe) and I have appreciated the movies immensily (I'm gifted that I enjoyed the movies and enjoyed the books even more)...

But when it comes down to it, I'm happy at how close the adapatation was (if you consider it with most book->movie adaptations). Just read Jurrassic Park and watch it and you'll know LotR got the lighter end of the stick... but then, imagine the fans reaction if it hadn't!!!

  11. Just to clear something up: I am in no way against ESRB ratings. Do they work? Not all the time, but that means work needs to be done on them, not just another system be adopted to replace it. And if you look over to theaters, it doesn't work there too.

I recently heard that Fable was censored a scene due to nudity, now I don't really care about losing it... I care that the US is the only conuntry in the world to have the scene censored (and the game already has a M rating). But then I also hear that other countries censor violence instead, so I guess I can't complain much... It would suck to have to live with green blood!

  12. I got 32, and if you want to keep some processes from starting up go to run and type msconfig and under Startup you can disable a bunch of processes (of course, there's still the problem of figuring out what each thing is).
