  2. Rise of nations: thrones and patriots expansion had a sort of conquer the world mode, which can be implemented in 0 AD. With provinces.

  4. Some of the developers knew that you lost your AOM disc and devoted 8 years of their lives rubbing in it your face by reminding you of the norse. Absolute devotion , i call that. Now serious, Age of Mythology was fantastic and this game will remind you of it.

  7. I enjoyed the first stronghold, although the quality went down with every title until Stronghold crusader extreme, I guess the biggest rip-off in gaming history. But no, this is not competition. Never will be. Different time, focus on besieging, etc...
  8. I wouldnt make it settlers 3 style. I hope it will be possible to build towers onto wall corners for aesthetic effect, this may sound strange, but people might like, and it saves building space in your fortified town centre.

Unique to any other RTS game ever created ( my bet though) would be unique carthaginian structures like: Carthage: - The big merchant docks http://www.google.be/imgres?imgurl=http://...h:1&um=1&itbs=1 - Shrine to Baal-Moloch http://www.google.be/imgres?imgurl=http://...iw=1280&bih=675 - Castle of the Barca family ( the stronghold of Carthage) ADVANTAGES: The implementation of Carthage as a civ is quite unique and many players will like to play the rise ( and specifically ) the fall of carthage... These models will be used, im sure. Not a waste of time.
  10. Concept: implementing the system of minor civs from Age of Empires 3. Layout: a few houses with small empty building plot. The first one to build a tower on the plot is allied to that minor civ. Example: Germanic tribes Map of Gaul/france : the romans under julius caesar can build a tower in the germanic village to acquire their support ( good cavalry) + a few minor technologies. Can be realistic AND interesting in terms of gameplay. Comments?
  11. I was wondering, will there be unique buildings implemented in the editor so we can use them to recreate ""realistic"" or recognizeable cities ? For example, circus maximus, the colloseum, etc... If so, i have a list of requests
  12. Would be brilliant to hear african chants and rhytms for african mercenaries / slaves on board of Carthaginian vessels. For the Persian navy you also can use greek as many coastal cities in lycia, pamplonia, cilicia, ... who contributed ships to the Persian war effort used greek.
  13. I would not call Rome the core of 0 AD. but it is the most 'famous' civ in RTS games/reality. Because the time period is more or less 500 BC - 1 AD for this part, other civilizations played a bigger part in the beginning of this period than rome... in 500 BC Rome was not even worth mentioning compared to the Hellenes and Persians. If you want to play as Rome there are so many games and campaigns, thats why im more looking forward to scenarios/ campaigns of carthage and Iberians.
  14. Phoenicians were not a 'hellenic' people. And yes, Phoenicians existed. DNA study proves alot: Haplogroup J2 (Y-DNA)
  15. To turn things around. The phoenicians ( and thus carthaginians) started colonizing the mediterrenean sea prior to the 'Greeks', thus influencing them most likely.
  16. A disadvantage of this concept is that you are resticted in time, if you want to keep it historically correct ( which I hope ) I'd also love to see a city / town as main 'character'. For example Athens or Carthage through the ages ( Rome has been portrayed too many times for me in games). Advantage is that you are not restricted to a certain time period.
  17. Of course But it can be interesting to use a combination of all of them. cfr. : Age of Kings, Mongols Campaign, scenario 1 where you had to unite the tribes using different methods. This can be pushed to the next level by not only using different methods to accomplish this but by making the AI respond to the methods you use... For example: as Athens you want Delos, Aegina, Paros and Naxos to join your sea-alliance (all islands). 1. Objective: Persuade Delos by destroying their fortress and sinking their warfleet. 2. Trigger: If you do so without losing too many units: Aegina will be afraid and offer to join. Trigger: If you do so with losing a lot of units: the other island will be less impressed by your remaining military and can form an alliance against you, thus making it harder for you to fight them individually.
  18. Imagine this: You can choose between different (historical) upgrades for each trireme. Building a wooden tower as an archer platform increases their range a little, ( as an animation you could use the viking longship like in AOK , with multiple arrows) and enhances their accuracy. Building a 'wooden (draw)bridge' ( this is historical, don't know the name though) allowed the romans to lower the bridge on the deck of an enemy (carthaginian) ship in order to board. Adding a ballista to the front ( bow?) adds a siege attack to the trireme...
  19. I also feel a lot for a 'Rise of Athens' tutorial. Many possibilities: - Building your city / reinforcing the acropolis - colonizing the mediterrenean - persuading neighbouring islands to join your 'sea-alliance' - struggles with Persia, Sparta, later Thebes -.... The list is endless.
  20. Euh honestly do you think the Jews would make an interesting addition? Can you put them next to Persians, Hellenes and Romans? I think not. I do hope however that wildfiregames or mod makers implement the idea of minor civilizations that can be controlled by building a Proconsul's palace. Than the jews could be added. The idea is totally similar to that of AOE 3.
  21. Naval warfare and RTS games: not always a good combination . Rise and fall had original ideas that worked out quite well but it would take a long time probably to implement these into 0 AD. Naval warfare needs more love, I think. But my ideas depend on what is possible in 0 AD. Can two ships 'board' each other? Can a ship get rammed? If so... a lot of possibilites are possible.
  22. - I think optional objectives are not an issue, and will certainly be used ... but scripts running through a campaign? - I also would like to see a 'battles of the conquerors' adaptation: 0 AD-style. Perhaps the Iberians are not 'interesting' enough for a complete campaign, but at least one scenario should be included. This 'campaign' can also be used to group scenario's who take place in the same setting but other time: f.e. 'Punic Wars', taking events from all three wars to make it more interesting for the player. - Concerning civil war: is it not boring to fight against the same faction ?
  23. Not an original idea There was a game called Highland Warriors, a terrible AOK-clone which had an 'experience' system like that. Your villagers received experience doing certain tasks, making them better in woodcutting f.e. but worse in foraging... According to me it is very difficult to find a right balance between too much micromanagement and the effect of the bonusses. The idea sounds interesting I admit, but is it worth the effort?
  24. I agree. Foundations should be visible. Like in reality, flags and ropes were used to mark the foundations. I also propose a second thing. A building should have less "crush armour" during construction than after finishing. F .e. When you are building walls while the enemy attacks, unfinished walls should go down a little easier, even concerning their hitpoints are a little lower than a finished wall part.
