  1. Love the quickmath's calculus feature... makes chain rule trig. differentials much easier
  2. There are lots of expressions in French that use avoir, like j'ai honte de, j'ai hâte de, etc (I can't think of too many at the moment)...
  3. There, I hope all that saves you a couple points in french. Good luck. I think that's right...
  4. There may not be much love in America, but we like it that way I wonder if yutong can enlighten us on how it is in China?
  5. I dislike cell phones very much Every day after school (about 2 minutes after school that is) about half the people in my school pull out their phones and call their 'cool' friends I suppose... What, you can't go another 10 minutes to get home and talk to them online? And why do people need to call each other during school? I guess I'm just old-fashioned, I enjoy being 'disconnected' every once and awhile, although my parents probably do not like that so much. I have a cell phone, but use it for about 1 minute a month just so my minutes roll over. B-)
  6. In america you do not hug anyone, unless of course the occasional girl I suppose... People are definately cantankerous. And if you try to kiss anyone, do not be suprised if you get slapped
  7. Well, just in case someone needs the english equivalents: bleu - bleue blue rouge - rouge red vert - verte green gris - grise gray blanc - blanche white noir - noire black jaune - jaune yellow orange - orange orange marron - marron brown rose - rose pink violet - violette violet
  8. Listening is probably the hardest, since those darn French speak so fast! Hopefully if I get to go to France this summer I could work on that. Around here, Frenglish is called Franglais All the kids at my school are horrible at it, I've been improving since I can normally describe words I do not know.
  9. If they significantly changed to color of American bills, all hell would break loose. We like our GREEN!! Yes, Ulyssis S Grant is on the $50. Andrew Jackson is on the $20. And if we're lucky, Reagan will get his own bill soon
  10. Check out the new $50, it looks pretty sharp! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._fifty_dollar_bill It'll probably be a while before I get one, but they seem to be neat-o nonetheless!
  11. Ooo beach! The only beach around here is Lake Erie, not exactly a chic resort... (pi)
  12. Seeing so many French topics, I thought it would be useful to find out who can speak French at what levels I am currently in French 5 at high school, with only 3 other people in my class (eHurldler being one of them). It is also the IB French class, so I have a nice big final exam in May to look forward to
  13. Isn't passé simple just for written text? I found it frequently in La Belle et La Bête, but I've never had to learn it.
  14. I always sport the headband now, since I sweat so much it helps a lot. It is tough to run with your eyes closed because of sweat
  15. Here's the link to our most recent results from a meet in Youngstown, OH. Got 5th place as a team, which is respectable this time in the season, and considering the competition (all the teams that beat us were top 7 at states last year), about 40 teams and 300 individuals overall. Good news, the former top team at the state had half their team suspended for supposedly blowing up dumpsters. No one knows how long they'll be out, but this is the same team that went to court over regional results since they finished 1 place out to qualify, and lost Here's a pic at the end: Chris finished 2nd, Me 30th (17:48 ), Jake 11th, and Adam 90 something... Much better than last year though, I finished 103rd, horrible. 17:36 for 3 or 3.1 miles? We always run 5k's, which is 200m more, or about 20-30 seconds I suppose.
  16. I'm no latin scholar so excuse my mispelling Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum viditur. — "Anything said in Latin sounds profound."
  17. I'm in fifth year french, but I still need to catch up on silly little grammer rules like that. At least I'm not conjugating verbs all the time! So one would use the ce qui/que/dont when the object is basically 'quelque chose' or an equivalent? Today I wrote a whole page in French about 'L'amour'. I found a chance to use that double past tense (avoir conjugated in imparfait + past participle verb, I forget the name) too, that is my favorite tense by far. Thought for the day, Aujourd'hui, j'ai couru dix miles (16 kilometres je pense) en soixant-deux minutes.
  18. You know what's really confusing? Ce qui, ce que, and ce dont! I know what qui, que, et dont mean alone, but this is what my book says:
  19. 'Dum spiro, spero' means something like "as long as I breath, I hope". I didn't pick that one in paticular, I gave the team a list I wrote and had them choose. Another one I liked was "Ad astra per aspera", which means "to the stars through difficulties". More appropiate for a sport, I thought.
  20. still in the 70's most of the time, but about 40-50 degrees in the morning *shivers* And we've gotten the past two hurricanes too, which has been the only rain this month. Thanks tong for reminding me to finish my french homework on universities!
  21. A Latin quote on our cross country shirts: Dum spiro, spero Wikipedia has tons of proverbs, in all sorts of languages from Albanian to Swedish: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proverb
  22. We've talked about "le weekend" in French class, it is indeed a more French thing than Quebec thing. There are quite a few french speakers on this forum too Argalius, if you want to translate something into Dutch for me, I could use the translation (and pronunciation please) of: "Watch out! There is a hot dog flying towards your head!" This is something my half-Dutch friend shouted at the International Children's games, I would like to know what it is
  23. I was going for 'while I was sitting on the toilet, I thought...' in english. I thought when you have action then interruption it is imparfait->passé composé, but I have a feeling you're right Thanks for the help though
  24. :self-bash: ah I misconjugated imparfait. I knew you were just joking, but I like to ramble random stuff in French to work on my grammer. Bon. Correct at will, I forgot some of my past tense direct objects over the summer.
  25. Cela c'est correcte, elle pensait que j'était vraiment "dans la douche! Je me douche maintenant!", mais... j'ai essayer dire que "la douche" est un mot rigolo en français. I hope that was correct, I have a lot of french to work on before my final test in May.
