  1. Oh, I've seen this before - very, very classic
  2. Well many of you might know my brother's AoK mod "Battles of Middle Earth". He finished a number of new things recently, which can be seen on his website: http://www.vanacreative.com/bome Finished things include: Thangorodrim Orthanc Argonath Mallorn Mallorn with Flets Mordor Castle Mordor Blacksmith Mordor Archery Range Mordor Barracks Mordor Houses Mordor Monastery Mordor Dock Hobbit Hole And there is a new screenshot of the Argonath in a cool game setting. So check it out!
  3. I don't want to get off topic But I have to say, we're trying to combat commercialization with free thought and independent development.
  4. The reason I know about the books is because Tolkien himself chose to publish The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, a private work and a private decision. Tolkien did not choose to create Lord of the Rings popcorn tubs.
  5. Ok, on a little indulgence here I took their brain test: Precisely what I thought
  6. Ok I took the test: "Visionary Philosopher" I'd like to see all the names they give people
  7. Then this is to say that, for example, Plato or Aristotle were not wise people, in which case I wholeheartedly disagree. That'd be simply called knowledge of christianity. Well I have to disagree. It's based on the reasoning and thinking skills that are similar in many day-to-day tasks. Just because you may not have to use these tasks in your daily life does not mean others do not. Hmm, I'd have to disagree again. What is useful in your mind could be useless in another's and vice versa. You know, there is a physics law called "The Principle of Least Action", which basically states that the most natural way to do things is the easiest, shortest, etc. So maybe lazy people are or aren't aware of the fact that they could have some transcendent wisdom of nature I'd just like to say that I am against stereotyping and classification of things like this. Intelligence is the same thing just applied to different aspects of your existence. It makes no difference to me if you are stronger in one area than the other, I don't think of life as some RPG where you can count stat points and give yourself a class.
  8. Looks good from a technical standpoint but I'm wary of the exploitation of the movies these days. I went to the cinema yesterday and I got a coupon for half price off on a "Lord of the Rings Popcorn Tub". It's depressing IMO - I don't think Tolkien meant for his works to be made into popcorn tubs.
  9. Klaas, I agree. The last two matrices were all about action. But I want to explore philosophy, I want my mind bent in ways like the spoon was in the first Matrix Revolutions and its ending just failed to do that.
  10. I was VERY dissappointed with the ending, and though I liked the rest of the movie, I think it ruins the entire trilogy. I was really hoping the ending would be disturbing, dark, and thought-provoking, but it turned out to be rather disney-like in my opinion. SPOILER: I thought it would be really cool if when trinity and neo tore through the clouds they saw not a pleasant hopeful sky, but just an expansion of the machine empire. I mean what's to say the machines would be content with just controlling a single planet if they aren't content to kill every single human being? I just thought that the plot might be less predictable. I was able to call every major part of the thing before I saw it - trinity dies, smith and neo are equal and opposite, they have to go to the machine city, zion is saved, niobe and morpheus get together again, etc. It was all very pleasant and a rollicking good time, but that's not what I expected from the second sequel of such a disturbing and wonderful movie. I like when things are kept ambiguous and thought-provoking, not when some personal belief is forced down one's throat, especially when dealing with philosophy.
  11. Nah, I think it'd be around 170 or so. I took an actual test (7 years back though - I don't know if IQ changes with time) and I received a 149. It's hard to define intelligence as either smart or not smart. There are thousands of ways to think about intelligence. My personal opinion on this, however, has been that the highest form of human intelligence is in the ability to be intuitive. For example, the ability to look at a physics or calculus problem and 'see' or have an intuition on both the solution to the problem, and the method. It's also the kind of thinking that produces good artists, musicians, etc. Then I think the ability to reason comes after that, then perhaps basic application of memory, and then just memory after that. I don't know, that's my take on it.
  12. Principal of an Architecture Firm based on the US east coast
  13. No, it can never be too big as long as it's kept balanced and in check with good moderation, and it doesn't interfere with the real goal at hand, which is to complete two games.
  14. My eyesight. (it's not that bad, but it bothers me being such a visual thinker to have worse than 20/20 vision)
  15. Yeah something approaching that idea at least. Well I was approaching the idea from a "was a member of" view, whether was a member of a team or a specific forum.
  16. Well it'd be like a networked 'web' type diagram. Take one person - ask that person all of the people he's worked with. Then take one of those people - take all of the people he's worked with. Then you can start networking people together and see where all the connections are.
  17. I'd be interested in seeing a map of 'people' related to the modding/scn teams around WFG. It'd be like a map that shows how every person is interrelated to other people and teams and what not. I don't know just my opinion, but I think it'd be cool
  18. Man I probably spent on as an average over a year and a half an hour a day (some days 2-3, some days none) there, so that makes what - almost 500 hours of my life spent on those forums? Lots of good things happened there, I remember the first time I posted, with three pictures of things I had done as a "freelance" 3D artist - an orc helm, a gondor helm, and a gandalf with a fake Photoshoped Lens Glare The years sure go fast... *wave of nostalgia overcomes him* And I remember when TLA first got 1000 posts in its forum, when the TLA forum was first made public (password was dwarveshateelves), and how excited we were to have a forum to call our own - that was 4 websites and almost two years ago...
  19. I like Text-based RPGS - MUDs and MUSHes - anyone ever play those? I used to frequent "Islands of Myth" and "Elendor' (The premier Tolkien based MUSH experience)
  20. FYI - with the TLA avatars, we're only using the house/civ emblems and heraldry that Tolkien designed (though we had to invent some with the help of textual influences for those Tolkien didn't make) Unfortunately there are none with dragons or such on them.
  21. What about the second Gladiator movie? I can't wait for that (nor its score!)
  22. Hi! You might want to check out The Last Alliance http://forums.wildfiregames.com/tla http://wildfiregames.com/tla
