I hope this will bring a bit of activity back onto the forum ... the return of the king made everybody a bit IN-active :)

  2. ;)

By the way, I thought you would be interested by a review from a French newspaper, which didn't like the film ... and the books ...

Before we can watch "Mordor 2, the Revenge" (and then "Sam's Kids 3", "The Other Rings"), it is the end but does not end. Twelve hours after Bilbo's first steps, the ring's fate is still being dealt with. Another @#$%ing 3 and a half hours ! The little boys will be happy to spend their parents' money to watch that movie. There is action. Youc an find everything in this third samaritan ringy saga : fairies, hulks, fire, trolls, skulls, mammoths, apocalypse, mazes, loving princess, nazeguls, mad kings, fortress, bad guys, anti-spider lights, worms, moral, witchcraft, under-water ball-eye, volcano anus-eye and Hobbits..

The story is complicated but the synopsis is still the same: in an enormous Dolby panoramic overdose, the hord of black and horrible terrorists wants to kill everything and everybody, especially yhe white allies under the control of Merllin "Magneto" Gandalf and Prince Valliant Aragorn, and at the same time two little dwarves (searched by the foreigners) escape afar with the atomic ring with a Gollum who can only say "my prechssss". Climbing up the mountain, we can notice that the Hobbits were in fact the Jackson Five; Frodo is really the lookalike of Michael "Bambi" Jackson the Hobbeat. What a story !

By the end, after three hours and false endings, the film, which has just started shows the pages of the beginning of the book of the film, being finished under the quill of a Hobbit writing that a book never really ends. Actually, the author reveals on screen that there is a little post-scriptum oin the big book. It was then not finished, but there was the end. The theatre applauses and stands ... and twice again in the next 15 minutes. There was yet something else, a little flash-back for the road, kissings, farewells, the separation the last good-byes ...

Eventually, now the words "The End" appear on screen, burnt ring and king crowned, we ignore where Michael Frodo and Merlin Gandalf (they sail together but where ?). Even more important, what of Bin DracuLaden, hero of the Two (Twin ?) Towers ? Free Saruman !

There ... I hope you could understand a bit ... I translated it from the French but don't worry, I could not understand some parts even in French ! :)

  3. Yeh, I agree that the Pelennor was too wuickly done with after the Army of the Dead arrives. But comes on, the siege of Minas Tirith was good, wasn't it ?

Okay, false ends ... but did it really matter ? I loved the sequence with Shelob "killing" and "webbing" Frodo ...

and true, I didn't really like the sequence in the Path of the Dead ... too quick ...

Anyway, I don't have to wait for the second viewing to like it.

  4. ;)

That's it ! I have seen it yesterday evening ! The theatre was so full that some people even had to sit on the stairs ! !

Now, concerning the movie itself, some moments are really moving like when Sam and Frodo have destroyed the Ring ... and they are in the middle of the lava ... thinking they will die. I have to say that a little tear came out of my eye at that point. :)

Then, on the trailer, a lot of things which appear are not in the Theatrical Version ... like Merry saying "We shall see the Shire again" ... or when the Witch King is facing Gandalf with Pippin on the horse ... yet, it is not a problem.

Anyway, we were really happy with the film. Shelob is wonderful. And, for those who haven't read the book, they might really think that Frodo dies when he is stung by Shelob ... Then, in Cirith Ungol, Sam shows us how brave he is ! Oh my God, there are so many other things to say ! I loved the fight between the eagles and the nazguls at the end as well. Eowyn killing the Witch King ... "I am not a man" ... ;)

Anyway, after 3 hours and 28 minutes (plus a very unnecessary 10 mnute pause in the middle), on the way back in the car, my wife and I were discussig how great the film was ... I do hope it will get Best film Academy Award.

  5. :)

Well, thanks Zezar but the problem is my models are just designed for fun ... I don't bother about the number of polygones ... so you cannot just insert a 12,000 polygon model into a game ! ;)

So, whatever happens, the buildings in TLA will be less detailed in polys ... but I guess the textures will be richer ! ;)

  6. Indeed, Quenya was prohibited by Thingol because of the Kin's slaying at Alqualonde ... and the Noldor stuck to that rule except between themselves.

Knowing that Celeborn was not a Noldo, only Galadriel was, I reckon the main language must have been Sindarin within the Third and even the Second Age ... Edain for instance is purely Sindarin, as opposed to Atani in Quenya ... etc, etc ... :)

  7. :)

got my tickets yesteday evening (Friday evening) ... after a good rugby match (for US people, rugby is the ancestor of US football and very popular in France and Great Britain ...) :P

Just bought 2 for the Return of the King ... I thought of going to the marathon but I would be too tired in my opinion ... I prefer to enjoy the One Film at 9 pm :P

Apparently, my wife is a little scared about spiders ... but I think it is more about touching them ... I don't think she will be so frightened by Shelob ... wait and see :P

  8. And some will only be fans of LotR, and maybe the Hobbit, and some of these people will think they are your regular Tolkien Experts, the guys who sit behind you in theaters and tell their friends or spouses as if they know what they're talking about, but really they get a lot wrong and you're tempted to correct them, but you know it's not that important.

    :)

yeh, I see what you mean ... a colleague of mine has seen the movies and then started to read the Lord of the Rings ... and now, people seem to ask him questions about this and that ... but he doesn't know anything about it (like the Gandalf - Maia issue) ... so I have to hold my tongue not to correct all the bull@#$% he is uttering ! :P

  9. :P

I will go on the 16th, at 9pm French Time (GMT +1) and I shall be with my beloved wife ! :P ... I wanted to do Tuesday Trilogy but I would have to let my wife down for some hours ... and she would be bored before the Return of the KIng starts ... so I will only watch the Return of the King and watch the 2 EE at home :P

Yet, I will need a lot of :P:):P to forget that I will have to wait for the following day before watching it again !!! :P

  10. :P

no no ... they had another name each of them ... Palando was also known as _________ :P and Alatar was also known as _______ :P .... that's the names I am looking for. I think these names appear only in 1 volume of all Tolkien's published works. :)

    Good luck again :P

  11. Sorry Adam but, for instance, do you really think Tolkien would have agreed with Dwarf Hunting Lodge or a Dwarf Brewery as it was drawn by Quellion ? Do you think he saw or Dwarven friends have fortresses as are drawn on the concept artwork page ? Aren't dwarves supposed to live under the Mountain ?

I really think the books (or The Book?) and any form of art related to them (or It ?) should coexist because each of us has something different in mind ... Why don't you design a dwarven civilisation that will ONLY take place inside rock ? That would probably fit with the books ... Same reason as why Peter J. made a short Council of Elrond ... can you imagine a 3 hour-long Council ... it might suit to a few (of us) ... but I think it was a great opportunity to bring people like the movies and get to read the books ... if only 5% of the people who watched the movies read the books, I still think it is a great thing.

Let me tell you a little story. I had always been fond of dinosaurs and had only read scientific books about them. I then watched Jurassic Park and I read the book by Crichton straight after. I think Crichton enjoyed seeing his sales go up ... but surely Crichton's fans were happy to see his other "not-so'famous" books read by a wide range of people who, before Jurassic Park, would have never read Crichton.

The problem with Tolkien's books is that they are seen as The Book. As they are difficult to read, those (and I am one of those) who have tried to master the books tend to make them theirs ... and they tend to become nearly extremists ... like Taleban of Tolkien ...

    Hope I was convincing. :)

  12. :)

Well, in a will of contradiction, I shall vote for the Balrog ... think about it ... Sauron, without his ring was a Maia, sure he was Melkor's right hand but Gothmog, lord fo the Balrog ... could he not defeat Sauron ? I think he might. Anyway, apart from podssessing the One Ring, I don't think a Balrog and Sauron would have ever fought ... they would have rather allied to kill every single elf, dwarf, man or any living creature in Middle-Earth. :P

But too bad there is not a "tie" vote ... or a "stopped the fight and killed a few Galadhrim" vote :P

  13. :P

Indeed Aldaron ... it IS a tomb ... at last somebody who is appreciating my artwork ... :P (justy kidding !!)

anyway, I have upgraded it ... just came from work, had to wash my brain out on 3D MAX, then South of France is flooded, can't go out because the city is surrounded by water, and finally nothing at the cinema ... so plenty of time to upgrade and design new things ... here it is :

    ruin2.jpg

I have even rendered one with a dwarf and an Elf which I created ... just to compare how big it will be, comparing two different types of "races" ... :)

Oh, and by the way, I cannot put that thin column down ... I am, like, bound to it ... it is a personal thing :P

and darker, sure I will ... but I do not have many stone textures ... and that is stucco ... that looks like a kind of lime stone ! so, maybe this week-end I will make it darker on Photoshop ... :P
