  1. What exactly was the content of your master's thesis? What did it have to do with Finwë's family?

Well, of course, it had to do with this special relationship that Finwë had with his elder son, Kurufinwë. and the lack of information about his daughters for instance.

Then, I studied (tried at least) to retrace his lineage all the way down to the Fourth Age with Arwen ... and Eldarion, the last generation of the Kingly Ñoldorin House in Middle Earth in the Fourth Age.

I even made a big family tree as an appendix ... quite impressed of myself I was ! :P

its title was : From Cuivenen to the Reunited Kingdom, Finwë's lineage in JRR Tolkien's Arda.

    It was 80 pages long, plus 15 pages of appendixes ... :):P:P:P ... that's what I needed to finish it ! ! ! ! ! ! :P

But to be honest, that is really my field ! I am not keen on the rest ... of course, I know my basics but I was really focused on that ... and not much else in Arda. My goodness, I wonder where I can have placed it ! :P

  2. Sorry, I voted for Zealot :P

    Well, I thought that :

    - Having read The Hobbit, LotR, Silmarillion, HoME, Finn & Engest, Tree & Leaf, Roverandom, Unfinished Tales, etc ...

    - Having literally learnt English just to read Tolkien in English

    - Having studied Finwë's family as my Master's thesis :P

    - Having travelled 700 miles (1,000 km) to watch the premiere of the Two Towers last year in London (Toulouse, France - London, England) :P

    - Having used for more than 7 years Tolkien's mythology's greatest character (Curufinwë :P - a.k.a Fëanor - of course) as my nickname :P

    - Having, with no modesty :) , the greatest Tolkien library in the South-West of France

    - Having encrusted into my wedding ring my wife's name and my name in Quenya

    - and most of all, having designed drawings by Quellion from the Last Alliance's artwork :P

would make me a "Tolkien Zealot" ... as you call those who belong to that category, CodeOptimistic !

  3. The thing, Black Op, is that those tracks are to be downloaded on classicfm.com or some address like that, fully legal of course ... I am just making a miror site for the track ... I don't think it is illegal ... if it is, I shall not upload anymore ... and I am really sorry for the disturbance ! :P

Anyway, you are right, just in case, I shall not make any more advertising for this ... but shall everybody know that every week day on classic FM, from 10:40 am to 12 am there will be a track of the Return of the King ...

Gosh ! I am working on Monday and there is no speaker on the computer at school ! :)

  4. sorry Black Op ... :P

but I have "The End of all Things" :) ... that is the 16th track of the RotK Soundtrack ... so if anybody wants it, again, just ask me and I will upload it ... just for you :P

By the way, you have just heard 58 secs on the preview but this track is more than 5 minutes long ! 4.66 Mb ... but it is really pleasant to listen to it !

    :P

Hope you won't mind Black Op ! :P

  5. :P

And very nice too! How many polys is that catapult?

I'd like to see your work with other siege weaponry or ships sometime, once we get concepts up for those.

Well, just send me drawings over ... :)

it will be my great pleasure to be able to model them ... :P

By the way, there is a detail which I never asked you ... Do you think the walls of the Dwarven buildings should be made of red bricks as I made them or rather made of stone ... like lime stone or granite ? :P

  6. Well, the Catapult shown on my website is 12832 faces (I don't know if polys and faces are the same). I know it is too much ... I have designed another one with 512 faces/polys

    http://www.chez.com/curufinwe/DwarfCatapult512.jpg

type this address in because by a kind of magic, if you click on it, it will show an error message ... so the best is to Ctrl C / Ctrl V :)

I hope 512 is not too many ... if it is, I can still delete the wood logs in the middle of the Catapult.

  7. I will get my copy tomorrow thanks to amazon.fr ... but my brother was able to download the EE for me on DVD-R ... and I watched it on Sunday afternoon (at 3 pm after eating a wonderful sauerkraut !!!!! :P )

Well, there is a stunning scene of course, that is not in the book ... Faramir's flashback when Boromir conquered Osgiliath back ... Yet, I was a little perplex as to the quality of the new scenes ... Some really seem to have been added after and were not meant to be in the movie at all ... It seems to me that tTT EE is not as fluid as was FotR EE ... and it is a shame ...

Yet, it was an enjoyable time ... I didn't move for 4 hours and even asked my wife to get me a lemonade ! :P

Then, I have to check on the 3 other DVDs when I will have my boxed set ! :)

Hours in front of the computer watching the Appendixes ...

  8. well, to me, the end sounds a little repetitive ... which I hate in a game ... but the introduction is good. From 22 secs on, it is always the same theme ... woudln't it be possible to improve or make longer the beginning to have a shorter and less repetitive end ?

But again, it doesn't mean I dislike it ... I am just responding to the previous letter :)

  9. no, sorry CopeOptimistic ... "-Quen" ... is more like "Quenya", "Quendi", "Quenta", "Laiquendi", etc ....

the stem -Kwen means speak ... "Quenya" means "the speech" ... "Quendi" means the speakers ... that is to say, the Elves.

I think that is a big clue :P

    Good luck anyway ... :)

  10. The Dark Years were the years when Sauron had great powers over Middle Earth, that is from S.A 1000 to end of Second Age (when he was "killed (sic) by Elendil). It encloses the forging of the One Ring and the building of Barad Dur ...

    :)

Next question : what is the meaning of "aiquen" and "ilquen" in Quenya ?

  11. Ha,

got the size for most creatures of Middle Earth from PJ's movies ... on Brian Sibley's Lord of the Rings official Companion ... (p 75)

    Hobbits ... up to 4ft 2" tall (1.27 m)

    Dwarves ... average of 4ft 6" tall (1.37 m)

    Orcs ... between 5ft 2" (1.57 m) and 6ft 6" (1.98 m)

    Human ... average of 5ft 9" (1.75 m)

    Elf ... average of 6ft 2" (1.87m)

    Uruk Hai ... average of 6ft 4" (1.93 m)

    Ring Wraith ... average of 6ft 9" (2.05 m)

    Troll ... average of 10ft (3.05 m)

There ... I hope that will help :)

For PJ's movie, those sizes were used to calculate the scale ratio for scenes with more than one people involved ... such as Hobbits and Elves ... or Dwarves and Men ... 1 Man = 1.33 Hobbit .... for instance.

  12. As for bridges, I think that they should be a building just like a wall or a tower ... it would be very useful to build a bridge for a civ. If they really want to cross the river, they should use some of their goods to build it ... and it would not just come out from magic ...

  13. Sorry Aldaron, I didn't mean to make my own publicity ... I have to convince the team of letting me in ! (Just kidding  ) ... I have designed 3D models inspired by TLA and I just want to share them with other people ... but thanks for enjoying them ...

  14. How tall will be the characters ? ... say, a Dwarf or a Human or an Elf ... will the Ñoldor be taller than the Teleri or vice versa ... same for Rohirrim and Gondorians ... Dwarf = 1.20 m = 4ft ?

    Men = 1,80 m = 6 ft ?

    Elves = 1,90 = 6ft 4 ?
