  1. I like the idea of 0ad, and especially the high work ethic of the people involved in making this game. These aren't people who doodled something in MSPaint, wrote a few lines in Basic and called it a game - It's a group of serious people who decided to collaborate and make the most of their individual talents.
  2. Null vote - The poll was too culture-centric for me to answer, because none of the holidays mentioned in the poll are celebrated in Israel
  3. Got the same results. Never heard of the matrix method.
  4. "Prince of Egypt" was on Israeli channel 2 tonight, for Passover. (This could very well be why "The Ten Commandments" was on your channels too)
  5. I don't like spectator sports, so I chose the sport I like to participate in the best, which is swimming.
  6. hmmm... classes taken 2 hours a week can't be so demanding. I had 3 hours of chemistry a week last year, and it was not even my elective.
  7. Chemistry AND Physics AND Biology? Were any of these electives? At what level were they studied, for how many grades? I only had to take all three of these subjects one year (10th grade)... and I was so glad to drop Chem and Physics.
  8. 11, in the most conservative subject count. (Bio, Arabic, English, Comp Sci, Math, Bible, History, Heb Lit, Heb Composition, Traffic, Gym) If I counted in another way - Since certain subjects, like Bio and Comp Sci are split further - I could reach more subjects. I have some subjects as much as 5-6 hours a week (Math, Arabic and History) and some as few as once a week (Heb Composition and Traffic).
  9. First and so far only forummer from Asia (although Israel is often included in many European organizations)
  10. I use the Metric system. For all those who find the metric system confusing, I would like to offer a short clarification: 10 (End of clarification)
  11. I'd scan in my last Bio exam but it's all in Hebrew. I'm an 11th grader who takes Biology at a 5-units level (highest level possible).
  12. Single, but best friend has a gf, and they're the cutest couple I've ever seen. Would be nice to have a b/f but atm it's about as practical as building a paper submarine.
  13. I want to play 0AD, but just as importantly, I don't want it to be a half-baked game with loads of things missing, and I want everyone to have a good time making it.
  14. sgn(x)... Now there's a nifty function. I was thinking about the derivative of |x| yesterday, and I knew it was 1 for x>0 and -1 for x
  15. Does abs(x) mean |x|? If so, I don't know how to derive that function... It doesn't appear in my Calculus book either. In any case, here's half the solution: t = |x| (sqrt(t))' = t' / 2sqrt(t) = t' / 2sqrt(|x|)
  16. Rohirwine, I don't really understand the question... But Hebrew is written from right to left and that's the way it shows up on my computer. Sukkit, I assume you're referring to מזבח, which would be transliterated mizbae'akh (In Hebrew: Altar). I can think of a dozen other words like that off the top of my head: ריח réyakh / ré'akh - "Odor" מבטיח mavtí'akh - "He promises" אבטיח avatí'akh - "Watermelon" ----- פותח poté'akh - "He opens" זורח zoré'akh - "He shines" פורח poré'akh - "He blooms" זורע zoré'a - "He sows"* פוגע pogé'a - "He hurts" ----- פתוח patú'akh - "Open (m.sin.)" פגוע pagú'a - "Hurt (m.sin.)" תפוח tapú'akh - "Apple" (Comes from the root תפח, which means "to bloat") ...and all other verbs in these last two mishqalim (qotel and qatul, respectively, both from binyan pa'al - beinoni), when the last radical letter is khet or ayin. (As I showed in מבטיח, this occurs in other binyanim as well - in this case, הפעיל hif'il). This is a special phenomenon called patakh gnuvah ("Stolen patakh" - Not quite sure where it was stolen from). This phenomenon occurs only in a final khet and ayin, AFAIK. Without the patakh gnuvah, one would have to say *potekh, *poge', and *patukh, *pagu', just like one would say kotev and katuv. While this happens all the time in Arabic and is just left as it is, the Hebrew tongue cannot stand such obscenities and must make things easier to pronounce! In principle your analysis is right, but I'll rephrase it to be precise: When patakh appears under a final khet or ayin, it is seperated from the previous vowel by a glottal stop sound. This is the patakh gnuvah. * הזורעים בדמעה ברינה יקצורו - "Those who sow in tears will reap with songs of joy." (Psalm 126:5) (It's very common to quote all kinds of famous sayings when teching Hebrew. Instills some of the culture and heritage among all the linguistic babble, so to speak)
  17. I chose hearing on an impulse, thinking it's easier to repair and such, but the more I think about it, the more I regret my choice and wish I chose less height... Losing your hearing could be potentially very dangerous (not hearing cars or trains coming at you, etc. - I doubt if I'd be able to drive).
  18. I bite my nails whenever I'm bored, hungry or stressed out. Before a matriculation exam I'll be biting my nails for sure... I've tried to simply promise to myself not to bite my nails again but with very limited success. I might adopt the rubber band suggestion.
  19. Thanks everybody!!! (Rep++ all around) I had the best birthday party in my life on Friday! In general I think my 17th birtday has probably been the best birthday I ever had. So I've been having a hell of a time recently. יום הולדת שמח (Transliteration: yom hulédet samé'akh, you should be fine reading the transliteration if you can read Spanish, but if you can't, it sort of sounds like yowm hoo-LED-et saw-MEH-akh)
  20. Exams stress me out, in particular those with questions which don't directly pertain to the material, but require some thought before answering the question. Also, it seems to me that the distribution of points in the exam is seldom in my favor... But maybe that's just me. I participate a whole lot, do my homework whenever I can, take notes all the time, I'm pretty good at writing essays, and usually can plan ahead for long term assignments. Recently I've been having trouble with that because a lot of exams got in the way, so I'm turning in a History paper 3 days late tomorrow... If there's one thing I had to say that's hard about school, it's being good at all the classes you take. It's like juggling 10 balls and keeping them all in the air! (History, Bible, Math, Heb Lit, Heb Composition, Bio, Comp Sci, Arabic, Traffic, English)
  21. 1. I found the Hebrew translation of "formation": utzbáh 2. I thought of a good battle cry: akharái! ("After me!")
  22. (4-x)(x+4) = (4-x)(4+x) = 4^2 - x^2 = 16 - x^2 A little problem of my own: f(x) = e^2x f'(x) = ? (...and I'll use the opprotunity for a shout-out to Smadar, the best math teacher I've ever met!)
  23. This is not such a problem in Hebrew, since in Hebrew script one normally only has to write the consonants - a kind of shorthand, if you like. Makes for a much faster dictation speed. B-)
  24. I'm just waiting till we finish both parts of 0AD... Maybe I'll think about this more, once we hit beta stage of part 2, but in the meanwhile this is a great hobby. Who would Israel fight against, China? jajaja... It's funny that you put Israel in the same breath with a list of countries that are easily 10 times more populous than the entire Israeli population (Israeli Arabs included!).
