  1. It's been a while since I've been active on this forum, but I'm still playing 0 A.D. a lot and the project I'm writing about could potentially help 0 A.D. with some additional funding in the future. So, on the Steem blockchain there's a FOSS project called Utopian that helps out other FOSS projects by rewarding contributions. You basically write up a post about your contribution, which can be anything (development, bug hunting, translations, etc.), and they'll reward that post with a significant upvote. You're able to exchange the rewards you receive after 7 days and rewards range from around $10 to $70 per contribution. Would this be something that the 0 A.D. contributors are interested in? You don't need to register or anything, you can just start writing posts about your contributions straight away and get rewarded for them. More info on that here: https://join.utopian.io/ List of some of the contributions: https://steemit.com/trending/utopian-io Now they're also looking to build version 2 of Utopian, called Utopian Colony. This will be more of a social experience with even more funding options for open-source projects. They've launched a crowdfunding campaign on IndieGogo to make this happen and I'm personally pretty excited about this. In case anyone is interested in getting more information about this, here's their crowdfunding page on IndieGogo: https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/utopian-empowering-open-source-innovation/x/4464230#/ Sorry if this post breaks any rules, it's not my intent to spam the forums here. I just want to share a potentially interesting project and it might be useful for people who are contributing to 0 A.D.

  3. Very cool indeed, history and realism are overrated anyway
  4. I usually send smaller armies from the beginning and then work my way to gain map control by focussing on getting more civic centers built. Once I gain the economical advantage, I focus on building larger armies and attacking the enemy from different positions.
  5. Very interesting to read and I'm glad the money of the previous fundraiser is being spent wisely Kudos to everyone who volunteers and also Redfox ofcourse.
  6. Pretty neat! I'd also like a t-shirt design though
  7. I just wanted to add something that you might find usefull. I usually watch the roadmap to check upcomming features or bugfixes. Here's the link: http://trac.wildfiregames.com/roadmap This will also give you a somewhat accurate view of when a new release is due
  8. Hehe, another Belgian maybe we should start a Belgian 0 A.D. (sub)forum Gallia est omnis divisa in partes tres. Horum omnium fortissimi sunt Belgae
  9. I thought 0 A.D. had flattr in the past and it got removed. Since I've donated to 0 A.D. through Flattr before
  10. Its always in Brussels, same location every year (I think), Vrije universiteit Brussel (Free University of Brussels) Yeah I meant you'd only need promotional material when having a booth there, but the lightning talks are for any project, finished or not. Sorry for the confusion This is the first year its in Brussels so I doubt it will be there next year. Just checking the wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Libre_Software_Meeting
  11. Yeah of course, plus you would need a lot of promotional material. It does attract a huge crowd and in terms of project visibility it really puts your project out there and will certainly get you lots of new developers. The best way to have a good first appearance on FOSDEM, is for example to give a lightning talk (15 minute talk), pretty easy to arrange
  12. Will be present since its only about 30 km from where i live Too bad you guy's weren't at fosdem.
  13. Age of Wonders 3 will arrive in autumn 2013, anyone planning to buy this game? What are your thoughts about it? Haven't seen any video's of gameplay though.. http://www.ageofwonders.com/aow3live/
  14. Lion, I can't access the document anymore, I thought it was a really good idea and wanted to help you correct some of the spelling errors in the document. Any chance you could open it again?
  15. LOL (sorry for this useless reply but I laughed so hard at this ) She is, but she's always willing to help with whatever I need help with
  16. Yeah I noticed that, I actually know a very talented programmer who might be able to help with a few issues. I don't think she has experience in game programming but she might be able to help anyways. She has a Wikipedia page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meredith_L._Patterson If there are any specific issues that you're having trouble with, I could always ask if she knows how to fix it. I know her in real life so I just have to ask her
  17. No problem, I got a newsletter today from Sourceforge, mentioning this forum, thought it was applicable to 0AD since I've read several times that you needed more programmers. This was the least I could do since I'm not really a programmer myself.
  18. More developers is what this project really needs the most atm, right? Why not make a post in the Sourceforge "Help Wanted" forum? Seems to be fairly active... http://sourceforge.net/p/forge/helpwanted/
  19. I think its a great idea, I've noticed that on some maps the ai's female citizens go right into your territory to gather wood, thus making it too easy for you to kill them. This would prevent that, right??
  20. Man if I were to do something like that I would do it quite differently. No misleading information and I would add something of value for people who know they're buying free open source software eg. a custom case & manual or the svn/git repo on usb (pita to download for people with bad internet connections) Then donate half of the profits back to 0 A.D. And some people actually buy this, knowing that they can also download it for free...
  21. I'm trying to promote 0 A.D. as much as I can and back in January I sent a few dozen tips to OMGUbuntu about the new alpha release at that time. They did a review of 0 A.D. back then and I plan to do the same when the next alpha arrives. I also want to reach a different audience, so I'm gonna try to have a few prolific gamers do a Let's play of 0 A.D. so it also reaches the massive indie gamer audience. Openttd for example got a huge boost when The Yogscast did a let's play of their game, those video's have 700 000 views. Are there perhaps any other members who try to promote 0 A.D.? If yes how do you go about it?
  22. I think that before you get into massive-scale crowdfunding, you'll need to have the new website up first and already have a merchandise store set-up. The quality of the main website does not portray the quality of the game imo. And having a merchandise store already set up would make further logistics of issuing possible rewards so much easier. The money made with crowdfunding could be used in many ways: - paying current developers and/or hiring freelancers to help with long-standing issues - hold your own competition for implementing new features or making new models - paid advertising, as a way to attract more developers & users. I mean smart advertising though, don't think that throwing piles of money on google adwords would help a lot... Atm 0 A.D. is a well known open-source project, but many indie gamers don't know about it (we would have seen more "Let's plays" otherwise). Crowd-funding could change that, I think
  23. If units would 'snap' onto a nearby road, then you wouldn't have that problem. It would be pretty cool if roads were implemented, even as like a hidden bonus feature. But I know it has been said many times before, this isn't a city-building game so chances are very slim that it will be implemented.
  24. Could I read it too? I'll give you some honest feedback when I'm done. I''m also writing my own sci/fi book and I'd love to get some insight into the process other writers go through when writing a book
  25. I would suggest a cheat that adds 50.000 of each resource and a cheat that gives xxx resources to your a.i. opponent
